That is a citronella candle that helps repel mosquitos.
One of the reasons we haven't been out in the yard is the wife hates getting bitten by mosquitos. We used to have tons of citronella candles...in buckets....with liguid in a metal conatiner with a wick....regular candles...all kinds of stuff.
I planted some natural sources of citronella and am waiting on some citronella scented geranium which I am going to put all over the garden.
The way the candle works is you pull the wick throught the slot and it burns down and eventually goes out so you don't waste it. It's pretty cool.
Does the glass come with? It seems like the anti-mosquito effect would be more effective if the citronella vapor spread out evenly instead of getting shunted upwards through the glass chimney.
You're forever talking about what the gardener and his lady friend do on the porch at the cottage. I wonder if they ever have to curtail things because of mosquitoes.
In Brooklyn You walk down the hot street And when you get to the end of the hot street There's another hot street to walk down. Little do you know that hidden out of sight Are backyards: hundreds and hundreds of Hidden sunken sanctuaries of shade Where hundreds of bare arms are Raising the beautiful glass of guinea red aloft And dreamily looking through the ruby globe At the sun receiving walls of stucco and brick and clapboard That rise above their blissfully sunken havens of shade And knowing at that moment that All Is Good.

ReplyDeleteThat's a very interesting candle.
ReplyDeleteDetails please!
Looks like someone prefers putting sausage in buns and the other likes to mix them up with the "veggies"
ReplyDeleteThe bun lover also quaffs faster. I'm guessing that's you?
You can tell a lot about a person from how they relish their sausage.
ReplyDeleteYes I like to put my sausage between a nice pair of buns.
ReplyDeleteNot that there's anything wrong with that!

ReplyDeleteWhat mosquitoes really, really hate is smoke, so keep up the cigar action.
ReplyDeleteYes it comes with the glass but the idea is to permeate the area with the order. So of what happens when Garage is eating a road kill sandwich.
ReplyDeleteThe cigars work best but that is an after dinner thing. And it doesn't work too well when we are having coffee first thing in the morning.
ReplyDeleteIf only farting worked I could have it covered.
ReplyDeleteMosquitoes are also attracted to CO2 so the more you talk the more they'll hit on you.

ReplyDeleteI bet they do. Cause you one of them could fly in there and be buzzing around and stuff. How annoying would that be.
ReplyDeleteHey that inspires a "Tales of Amy's Garden" bit. Good going.
Chickenlittle got here first and took most of the good stuff.

ReplyDeleteAww, I'll shut up for a while.
I'm glad you guys are taking opportunities to rest. You work like dogs.
ReplyDeleteThat's a big effin' deal.
I plan to quit my job and live off the suckers like you.

That rise above those...
ReplyDeleteYou're right, bare arms can't look. So much for inspiration. ;^(
ReplyDeleteVery nice, ricpic. That really captures it.
ReplyDeleteMosquitoes in Brooklyn? Who'da thunk it?
