Carol Herman is like a bag lady that you do not want to make eye contact with because she will start talking at you and will not stop till you either run away or give her a $1.

Lock and load, baby, I especially like the fact that she has a scope on that bolt action rifle - she can spot and hit varmints a half mile away. Go grrl!

I've got a gun like that. But without the scope. Strictly for defensive purposes. Praying the noise of the first blast scares them away. If it doesn't I'm a goner
ReplyDeleteI read a tip that if you're gun illiterate like me the best thing is to stay inside your front door and shoot as they come through the door but don't under any circumstances go out to meet them. Of course this assumes they don't break in when you're asleep. Lotta fun living in a dark age.
You are allowed to learn, ricpic. An early lesson is that a 12 gauge shotgun is the best home defense weapon, for many reasons, including less need for accuracy in aiming.
ReplyDeleteAnother important reason it is superior has to do with how far the projectile will travel - a high powered rifle slug can travel a very long distance and through several thicknesses of drywall before stopping, putting innocent people at risk.
I sincerely hope you never need to pull the trigger of any weapon to defend your house and family.
I got my wife a 20 g 870 Rem. just for that purpose. It is short and she can easily engage it. The sound of loading the chamber is better than a growling rotweiler to scare off an intruder. And at close range a 20 g with bird or buck shot will be as effective as a 12 g.
ReplyDeleteSixty is right about wall penetration. A deer rifle can go through a lot of walls before stopping. But with a shot gun you still have to aim properly. The pattern of that at 12 feet is about four inches.
This might be what greats you if you went to Carol Herman's house...
ReplyDeleteA four inch circle of shot allows for less precision when aiming than a third of an inch that one gets from a .30 caliber rifle slug. Bird shot might be the way to go, but buck shot is quite effective, too.
