Did you ever get the feeling?

That Carol Herman does not welcome people visiting her at home even though she likes to burst in and dominate the conversation.

Don't be knockin on her door. Just sayn'

  1. I wouldn't want to.

And I doubt Carol knows how to handle a firearm. Hey, she has a habitat to play in and the people there seem to enjoy her company. That's great for them. I wish them the best.

  2. Carol Herman is like a bag lady that you do not want to make eye contact with because she will start talking at you and will not stop till you either run away or give her a $1.

  3. It ain't mutual.

    There's the tell.

The game only goes one way.

  4. I was going to ask if she was a relative Sixty. That woman in the picture has some gravatas.

Carol, I am sure looks like an old sad bag lady sort of hippie. Probably Dworkinish.

  5. Lock and load, baby, I especially like the fact that she has a scope on that bolt action rifle - she can spot and hit varmints a half mile away. Go grrl!

  6. Funny thing is, however, there is no magazine in that rifle.

And it looks as if there is some graffiti on the door behind her.

Most impressive feature - her forearms - she could probably squeeze the stuffin' out of a baseball with arms like that.

  7. I've got a gun like that. But without the scope. Strictly for defensive purposes. Praying the noise of the first blast scares them away. If it doesn't I'm a goner
I read a tip that if you're gun illiterate like me the best thing is to stay inside your front door and shoot as they come through the door but don't under any circumstances go out to meet them. Of course this assumes they don't break in when you're asleep. Lotta fun living in a dark age.

  8. You are allowed to learn, ricpic. An early lesson is that a 12 gauge shotgun is the best home defense weapon, for many reasons, including less need for accuracy in aiming.

Another important reason it is superior has to do with how far the projectile will travel - a high powered rifle slug can travel a very long distance and through several thicknesses of drywall before stopping, putting innocent people at risk.

I sincerely hope you never need to pull the trigger of any weapon to defend your house and family.

  9. I got my wife a 20 g 870 Rem. just for that purpose. It is short and she can easily engage it. The sound of loading the chamber is better than a growling rotweiler to scare off an intruder. And at close range a 20 g with bird or buck shot will be as effective as a 12 g.

Sixty is right about wall penetration. A deer rifle can go through a lot of walls before stopping. But with a shot gun you still have to aim properly. The pattern of that at 12 feet is about four inches.

  10. A four inch circle of shot allows for less precision when aiming than a third of an inch that one gets from a .30 caliber rifle slug. Bird shot might be the way to go, but buck shot is quite effective, too.

Close counts with horse shoes and shotguns.

  12. MamaM said There's the tell.

There are are others, but I'm not telling. I was reminded of one just yesterday.

  13. I glance at her first line, or so, but scroll past the rest. Many, ridiculously long. Just a frickin' drag. Like a few others. But it is the internet, peeps.

Hat tip to Florence King ruminating on misanthropy.
