She used to serve the normal Transylvanian cuisine. You know. Rotted flesh. Maggot infested swill. Indian food. But none of it really interested Uncle Herman. He would choke down whatever food it had taken her hours to prepare and not even notice what it was. It didn't really matter to him.
You see he would wait patient until he could creep into my room.
It was what I would eat that would get him all excited.
What's wrong w/ Indian food?
ReplyDeleteNeeds moar beef.
ReplyDeleteAll those spices are to cover up bad meat.
ReplyDeleteTony Soprano got sick on Indian food the day he and the boys clipped Big Pussy. I love Indian food. Eaten it many times and never had a problem.
ReplyDeleteWell, in spinelli's line of work it doesn't hurt to curry favor with the motel set.
ReplyDeleteI can patel what you are doing there.
ReplyDeleteApparently most of those motel owners come from the same province, Gujarati. Supposedly the whole trend got started b/c some US motel owner ran an ad in a Gujarati newspaper back in the day.
ReplyDeleteThe real question is, are Indian restaurants run by Indians or Greeks?
Hey even the Greek diners are run by Mexicans nowadays.
ReplyDeleteThey only have an old Greek guy out front as a beard.
You sure those aren't Greeks posing as Mexicans so they could get in?
ReplyDeletericpic, Great pun. As you might imagine, I have stayed in MANY hotels and motels over my career. I should have kept notes because that could be a book in itself. Wisconsin in particular has many non chain local motels. The motel got a quick 2 strikes if I walked in the lobby and it smelled like soup.
ReplyDeleteMy sister worked @ a Greek diner as a waitress when she went to college in New Haven. The diner was owned by 2 brothers. It was open 24 hours, EVERY day of the year. One brother worked midnight to noon, the other noon to midnight EVERY day of the year. They were the only person ever to touch the register.
ReplyDeleteNick - most of the time I stop for lunch in Madison it's at the Maharini. Very good food.
ReplyDeleteMaharini is probably the best in town.

Chinks and the mexicans.

ReplyDeleteBeware of Greeks bearing gifts!
Trojan Women is a whole 'nother story.
In Euripides' play Trojan Women, written in 415 B.C., the god Poseidon proclaims, “For, from his home beneath Parnassus, Phocian Epeus, aided by the craft of Pallas, framed a horse to bear within its womb an armed host, and sent it within the battlements, fraught with death; whence in days to come men shall tell of 'the wooden horse,' with its hidden load of warriors.”

ReplyDeleteGreek guy takes a pair of pants to the tailor.
ReplyDeleteTailor says "Euripides?"
Guy says "Yeah, Eumenides?
I won't be here all week if I can't tell a joke any better than that.
Horse goes to the doctor...
Haz, Here's a bit of politics dirt trivia. When Peg Lautenschlager got popped for DUI, she had her "One glass of wine" @ a restaurant bar that is now Maharini.
ReplyDeleteHuh. Did not know that. You mean the gallon-size glass, right?
ReplyDeleteNick - When we want too avoid the omnipresent liberals we stop for drinks or a meal at Kavanaugh's Esquire Club in Maple Bluff. I think we're headed there after a Mallards game in August.
ReplyDeleteThe Esquire is where I would meet some Maple Bluff guys every Friday for cocktails after work back in the 90's. The old man was still alive then, but John ran it. I've not been there in 15 years. Only ate there a few times but always good.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of mallards and Maple Bluff...I recall someone rather famous in Madison getting in trouble for luring ducks to his pier with food and then shooting them in the 1970's
ReplyDeleteCould be urban legend.
Oh, "his". Never mind...
