Sometimes it's hard not to laugh at crazy....even the best of us have to laugh at a sad clown

This whole thing with Crack at Lem's place is getting ridiculous. It is a snowy day in Brooklyn and we had to cancel all our appointments. So I have been involved in the big mash up with the tag team of Crack and Meade against all comers.

It reminds me of a tag team battle royal. Sort of like Mr. Fugi and Professor Tanaka taking on all comers. And losing badly.

Crack has become a one note crazy. It was amusing to me to have Leisure Suit Larry jump on a comment and mock me  by saying "Trooper York reads the Macho Response every day. Who knew."
Which is pretty funny since I don't. Just as I don't read his wife's crap either. I don't have to do that. People always drop by or email choice tidbits. You don't have to read either to know that it is always the same shit. But I guess I am pretty predictable. Just instead of racist rants or tongue bathing gay marriage you get naked pictures of Betty Rubble. Or Betty White. So I guess we are all predictable.

Crack seems to have totally lost it. Saying he hopes I get a "Knock Out Punch" or that I  should get shot in my store is pretty out there. But at least he is being honest and  saying what he has been thinking about for a long time. Better that it gets out there for all to see.

You make the call sports fans.

I just have to laugh.

  1. He seemed to be openly advocating that you be shot while in your store.

That is bad forensics right there. But he was never very bright or good at arguing.

But we are all racists, so at least we have that.

  2. He successfully set himself up as the focus of attention at Lem's on MLK day. Found himself a bully pulpit, a place to release all that emotion he pretends not to have under the guise of being the only one who knows what's right. Has he said anything new or different in the last four years?

    ReplyDelete
  3. He was. And he would laugh like it was Christmas in Africa.

You can't get too upset about what crazy people say.

The Evil Blogger Lady taught me that.

  4. Hey it is one way to spend a snow day.

  5. So I'm talented, smart, white and yet I'm still technically homeless, and (due to a severe knee injury) unable to walk and unable to afford the extensive treatment I need. Meanwhile Crack Emcee is bragging about having free housing and food and money, and spends his days insulting people on blogs?

Where is my share of the white privilege? What did I do wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  6. You went gay dude.

You need to hook up with a lonely spinster to pay your bills.

I think Liza with a Z is available. Give it some thought.

    ReplyDelete
  7. So that asshole is just going to keep making comments on my thread over at Lem's all day so I have to delete them?

Unlike him, I don't have time for that.

  8. Sorry, I couldn't wade through that swamp of shit. Something I started to respond to, but said, "Fuck it" was the idea that black people living in the USA today have suffered because of American slavery.

    They haven't.

In fact, they benefited from the suffering of their ancestors. One of twenty slaves brought over from Africa ended up in what is now the USA. FIVE PERCENT. The other 95% ended up in the Caribbean or Central and South America.

Human nature will always produce whiners like Crack and hand-wringing pussies like Meade. King Solomon offered this advice on dealing with fools like those two:

Proverbs 26:4-5: Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

There's a time to bitch slap and a time to ignore.

  9. I would venture to surmise that it is Leisure Suit Larry that you are deleting?

    That's damn funny.

  10. There's a time to bitch slap and a time to ignore

You forgot a time to parody and make fun of.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Let me clarify something. I do think that black people suffer today, but not directly from slavery. Some suffer from being raised in a victim culture, listening to the Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons tell them that they can't get ahead because The Man has him under his thumb. But, those are choices that people make to embrace others' grievances as their own and to fabricate conspiracy theories, not directly resulting from personal experience.

    That's damn funny.

No, but if he comes around I will. I was deleting Crack. He posted half a dozen or so increasingly unhinged anti-gay insults, and suggested that I he would hit me with his penis and that I would suck his dick. Pathetic!

He's just a borderline/narcissistic personality disorder and he's not clever. I really don't get the fascination with arguing with him.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Did you ever see the beginning of "The Wild Bunch?"

We are all just cruel children. I am not proud of it. I just recognize that it is true.

  15. Crack and Meade are joined at the hip these days. Just sayn'

So Laurence is ok with Mr Emcee's anti-gay feelings? That seems at odds with his sanctimonious attitude. If these people weren't stupid I'd be really baffled.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The Man does have the Negroes under his thumb. These days, however, the Man is a Negro.

    The irony, it burns!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Meade just likes to manipulate troubled people. He is about as bad as it gets.

I know he delights to take shots at me and Cody and Sixty at the Macho Response. The best response is to ignore him. Which I have tried to do.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Meade is a dumb motherfucker, but he is mean.

Makes you wonder how troubled his drunken wife is. Nah, it doesn't, we know how messed up she is.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Any reason, other than maybe the LULZ, that you guys are fucking with them?

Why not just delete every comment they make--or, even better, republish them with commentary.

Or why not just ignore them. Trust me. You'll feel better.

I haven't been to Lem's for the better part of a month, and I haven't been to TMR for easily double that. My skin is clearing up and I have more energy and my blood pressure is down.

There comes a time when the amusement just isn't worth the trade off. At least for me. I can't work on the MamaM zen and keep myself riled up with that abject, pathetic stupidity.

Probably a personal failing and there are probably people better able to control themselves than me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It is fun to watch Crackie keep spinning his hate and contradicting himself.

His lack of beliefs and consistency is impressive - but since he is completely shame-free, catching him in his own hypocrisy is amusing, but ultimately pointless.

Sometimes nihilism is its own reward.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well you don't have to go looking for it but when it knocks on your door you can't just surrender and let it go.

There is a very nice thread by Palladian that is going great.

It just turns to shit if Crack or Meade shows up.

I admit I am at fault. But it is a snow day.

Maybe you can call it a guilty pleasure.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah.

Like I said, there are people who're better able to separate the BS from real life.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Crack is the only black man w/ whom Meade has ever communicated.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Depends upon your definition of "communicated".

    ReplyDelete
  25. I mean really--can't the author of the post edit comments without it looking like they were edited?

After a few Crack posts where he says "I just realized I'm a no-talent racist piece of shit. I'm so sorry guys. I don't know what I was thinking"--he's gonna quit.

Of course, if that happened you'd have people like Lempy and little debbie busting out the "awwww....look he's such a nice guy really WE LOVE YOU CRACK" bullshit.

Because they're too dense to get it.

So never mind. Forget I brought it up.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Interesting you said that Cody because Little Debbie is picking at the "Freeman Hunt" scab because Crack claimed she "understands" him.

    Interesting sideline fights.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It is a good old fashioned shit storm.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I called Crack a liar for claiming he was raised by ex-slaves. His retort was that Freeman Hunt could explain his lie.

My response was that I was no more prone to believing her lie than his. Also threw in something about him always needing white women to cover for him or something, but that's just how we racists roll.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Meade and Crack trying some trash talk? I am going to Richard Sherman for trash talk. He is better at it and at least backed his banter up in the last game (although if he doesn't do it in the Super Bowl he will never hear the end of it).

    ReplyDelete
  30. Can't believe that I wasted time on that thread today.

I'm going to punish myself for doing that with this bottle of Jameson.

    That'll teach me.

    ReplyDelete
  31. There you go, Mr. Haz, that'll learn ya!

Have one for me. My cold could use it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. ,I called Crack a liar for claiming he was raised by ex-slaves. His retort was that Freeman Hunt could explain his lie.

It is a lie. We can do math. Crack is (I think) about 55. Born in 1959 or so. The Emancipation Proclamation was 1863. Even allowing a few more years for it all to sink in, the last people who were born in slavery was about 1865. That means those INFANTS would have been 94 years old when Crack was born. Being an infant born the last year of slavery doesn't count as being a slave. They were babies, infants. Don't count. Being RAISED by ex slaves or anyone else requires some years of raising.

Besides I recall Crack whining about how he was mistreated as a foster kid.

He exaggerates, he lies, he is crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I will post my recipe for garlic soup for you, Cody J.

    ReplyDelete
  34. That sounds good, Palladian, thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Crack was born in 1962, a self-loathing Baby Boomer. He will be 52 this year.

It's a shame he only has one response for every input. Oh well, you can't fix crazy. Or stupid. Or a combination of both.

Haz - I think I'll take my medicine, too. If the Glenfidich, wear it! Or Glenlivet. Iceberg, etc...

  38. You're still in your 30's aren't you, Palladian?

    ReplyDelete

Interesting that Crack hates Gays, thought he just hated women, God and the French.

  43. The thing about looking for a place in Florida is that I was a builder and know want I want; none of which is on the internet.

Because of hurricanes, I want a low building, framed in reinforced concrete, with cement tile roofing and hurricane glass in all the windows and exterior doors.

The newer places are built like that, because of building codes, but most of what's on the market is older and looks like it will be reduced to rubble with the next storm.

And Mrs. Haz refuses to be in any of the 55+ age communities. I think I agree with her. It's better to be around people of all ages.

And he would laugh like it was Christmas in Africa.

Sorry fucker has no idea what it is like in Africa. I have friends who live there now, in central Africa, with lizards, mambas, lions, elephants and natives. Etc. I'd post some of their comments but for two reasons: Crack would have a heart attack, and because they are DOD folk I'd be hurting them in the long run. We really do have our people living and working there, trying to help, lacking an outlet for boundless energy, the wife started a business, a martial arts gym that is successful...she's white, the rest of her partners are blacker than crack ever dreamed to be and good people so far. She's the only whitey bitch in MMA there so far :) and her kids are in it too.

    windbag said...

Sorry, I couldn't wade through that swamp of shit. Something I started to respond to, but said, "Fuck it"....

Which proves you are smarter than me by miles. I tried to pose concrete concepts, got ignored and finally told to shut up. Hey, I did it to me, so my bad.

    Masochism.

Hey, I like it when I can see just who got stomped on instead of the "stealth" deletions Meade does for his bitch.

Old? OLD? That guy wasn't even born, and Meade was barely pubescent, when the civil rights movement was rolling along...he just wants credit for it.

  46. A neighbor kid worked briefly for the town newspaper, mostly because he wanted to get some experience at his photography, but they made him attend school board meetings and boring shit like that. So, he did it. It was a paycheck.

Anyhow, he met a white guy from South Africa who had moved here. Now, mountain folk can be very friendly and accepting, but a lot of that is controlled by the outsider. Don't keep telling locals how you did it back home, that sort of thing. So, I don't know what this South African guy was like, because I never met him, but he had trouble adjusting to our way of life and he felt like he got the cold shoulder a lot of the time.

So, the neighbor kid decided to write a story about this immigrant from Africa, who was facing such adversity and prejudice and injustice here in the USA. How he had trouble finding work, how his diet and customs were so scorned by the xenophobic Americans. On and on, suggesting but never saying that the underlying issue was racism.

It was quite the tale of woe and made the reader really feel sorry for the guy. He never mentioned that the guy he was describing was white until the last paragraph. It was actually pretty brilliant and, of course, the editor refused to print it, since it demonstrated nicely that many times racism is only imaginary.

  47. Aridog, Bingo on Meade. I am apparently one of the few people able to ignore Crack. Maybe because I'm always engaged w/ my crack and nut sack.

I'm in Palm Springs and even the homeless are gay. Palm Springs has been a gay oasis for some time. I haven't been here for a good decade but it's gotten noticeably gayer. NTTAWWT. Between the geezers and the gays I am a distinct minority.

  55. I can't work on the MamaM zen and keep myself riled up with that abject, pathetic stupidity.

I had little to no zen going today, Cody Jarrett. When I read Crack's baited rantings and find him pissing on posts and dominating threads with his one sided distortions, I go into the Fight/Flight/Freeze response, wanting to argue while knowing that doing so seems to energize him all the more. I must have written and erased a dozen comments between today and yesterday. His blatant dishonestly with himself and others appalls me.

I'm continually surprised by his audaciousness and my own willingness to read his stuff and be surprised, when he's been behaving the same way for several years. What he says appears so wildly incongruent, I go to disbelief and anger, wanting to find a way to hold him accountable and make the disparate pieces fit into something that makes more sense than it does. Maybe that's the hook, the thing that draws me into his dramas. Having experienced my fill of personality disordered behavior, there's still part of me that wishes for an adult to show up and say "Stop! Just stop with the foolishness and be real!" Even though I know the result. I watched it happen again today when a mutual exchange of ideas was invited.

Palladian's post saved the day for me. Although the calm strong beauty of the colors alone would have been enough, his openness in the comments regarding process was a bonus that touched my heart. It was a refreshing find in the froth of either/or, black and white, deceit and blather. His willingness to do what was needed to keep the thread from being infected with more drama and dishonesty was also appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  56. If he's so up on Hallmark, he can start feathering his own nest by hawking his wife's pictures for puzzle art.

I saw the comment and wanted to say something but that's what he's hoping for. The deletion was clean, swift, and clear.

    Detachment!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks, MamaM, I am very glad you appreciated my thread. I don't usually like to talk about my work (I don't write "artist's statements" which are de rigueur in the fashionable art world today), but I am always moved by sincere inquiry.

As for L. Meade, I'm just sorry that he and his wife own one of my paintings, and that I gave her a copy of a very limited edition portfolio of letterpress prints/paintings that I made.

    Ain't no lion or tiger
    Ain't no mamba snake

When you do talk about your work, what comes through is a centered awareness that invites further thought.

Since art has a way of enduring beyond the patron or owner's life, it's my hope those pieces sold and given away will find value with another someday down the road.

At first click, the presence of two black and white closed boxes, inscribed with maze and closed lines, with the lightest point beyond them, made me laugh. Every comment I post is but one of about 6 or so that I wrote and re-wrote a half dozen times as well, and then deleting 5 of the 6 in the end.

I do it for two reasons: 1.) sometimes I am just full of shit, upon thinking about it, and 2.) I am always too verbose...so I must cull the flurry. Final edits that make it are usually less than half of the original diatribe. :)

And I still manage my "trademark" ...e.g., spelling because as "becasue"

    He must really believe it.

Anyway, I actually have prayed for the guy. He is really messed up and raging and killing himself with it all.

  66. Pogo ... he suggested I email as well, even providing the email address. Thing is, he also has mine from extended conversations previously....not to mention it is also in my "profile" for anyone to acquire. In short, if he feels the need to explain something separately from the "conversation" he can email me.

I don't have anything special to say or ask. I think I have been open. I am not comfortable extending this "race" discussion behind closed doors after the history of the thread. What is to be said that we'd not say opennly. Perhaps I am naive.

As for what you imply is Christian outreach, Crack knows who I am and what I've done. I don't ask for acknowledgement, even in private.

  67. Good point. I get the sense he realizes he has lost the argument in the group setting and wants to see if he can persuade me one-on-one.

I am afraid that he is seriously mentally ill. It seems to be getting worse over time. There used to be a rationality and sense of humor that is completely gone. Possibly a combination of issues, including and mainly isolation from other people. We don't know what his life is outside of his one note insane rantings and increasingly hate filled posts about race on the internet. Does he have friends? Spend any time doing something constructive? I fear not.

If there is no one to do a personal intervention, and it seems not, I sincerely hope that things will not spin out of control and see the hate and vitriol that is being spewed on the internet happen in real life.

I suggest that we not engage with or encourage the escalation into madness. I would also suggest that people not contact him directly. It would appear to be a dangerous move.

  70. The Huffington Post had a commentary where the implications were similar ....

Last night, when Richard Sherman went on his rant to Erin Andrews, most of America thought they were learning about the arrogance of another NFL player. But in reality, what Richard Sherman did was teach us about ourselves. He taught us that we're still a country that isn't ready for lower-class Americans from neighborhoods like Compton to succeed. We're still a country that can't decipher a person's character. But most of all, he taught us that no matter what you overcome in your life, we're still a country that can't accept someone if they're a little louder, a little prouder, or a little different from the people we surround ourselves with. It obviously is not unique to Lem's threads or any one place. Today we are all to blame for everything...thus nothing. I think I get it.

I also have no problem with people who disagree and think Sherman is a jerk. Many of them are fans of San Francisco or the Broncos, but what he did was sort of cocky.

Personally I think the best way to handle a huge play is to pretend it is no big deal. That totally screws with people's heads. But he was fired up emotionally and...oh well, that is live tv for you.

Me too. That was my point...the interpretation & narrative presented in Huff Po did not reflect anything about Sherman or what he said.

I really have no patience (a flaw I admit) with people who philosophically scream loudly that something is broken, not right (!), blah blah, yet do nothing nor offer any ideas on how to go about fixing it. Or even discuss proposals already on the table by others.

  86. Oh, and EBL...I gave you the hat tip because I appreciated the linkage that to me to Blackfive, where I found a similar dissonance.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I got your point Ari about focusing on HuffPuff's chicanery and flippancy.

Unfortunately there are way too many Peyton 49er fans out there too bitter to see the bigger picture.

And Blackfive is a great site.

  88. Troop: that B/W photo would look cooler if I did one of my reverse negativity transformations thereupon.

  89. Should I even try to figure out what Meade is saying in the comments of my post?

I love Richard Sherman. He totally owns the crazy. =)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Thanks, chick. In case it wasn't clear I was responding to your "I hope God wins this thread" comment.

I don't know wtf Meade is annoyed at.

    ReplyDelete
  91. It's Meade being his jackass self. Apparently he can't unleash the true Meade around home, so he does it on Lem's blog and at other blogs here and there.

There are two trains of thought about dealing with him.

    1. Ignore and don't respond.

    2. Delete if he posts a comment in a topic you post.

I delete his comments on my topics, and quote from AA's comment rules is so doing. It's really quite fun.

    ReplyDelete
  92. He is slow, but he is stupid.

"Bob" is a nice touch. Bub would work too.

So would several other words, but that's me, not the Hazman.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Thanks, Michael. I won't respond, but I will leave the comments. He's obviously proud of them.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Meade is an asshole. I guess there is some value in letting his comments stand, but he is just a shit stain on that thread.

I guess being a gigolo to a dried up old whore does that to a guy.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sixty, you're not usually blunt in quite that way.

    ReplyDelete
  96. @Sixty
Yeah. I can't say the comments didn't affect me.

But overall the thread was encouraging.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Meade and his butt boy Crack bring out the worst in me.

That does not speak well of me.

Darcy has more forgiveness in her. I am more of a "kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out" kind of guy.

So fuck Meade, the pussy-whipped drunk that he is. The hell he lives in daily is far worse than any punishment I could lay on him. Just imagine waking up in the morning and seeing that bleary-eyed dye job skank lying next to you. That he hasn't killed himself already speaks to his total lack of self-awareness.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I wonder--and this may be a question for MamaM--but is it better to acknowledge they bring out the worst in you, while still participating, or would it be better to take the other route, simply removing the irritants from your life (you know, like I try to).

I'm starting to think in some ways the ability to engage or not engage is a little more honest than the total refusal to engage.

    But I'm not sure yet.

    ReplyDelete
  99. You know, for the most part, I ignore and avoid them. But in moments of weakness I respond. Then I feel unclean and need Jesus to cast out the demons, which then leap into the nearest swine, and Lord knows it's crowded enough in Crack's head and Meade sure doesn't need any more demons running around that empty space between his ears.

    Stupid bitches.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Cody, my opinion is that I should engage if I believe I can lead someone to Christ.

It is so not easy. I have an Irish temper. :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. Sixty, that's pretty much exactly how I feel, so I don't bother to put myself in a position where I might be tempted. Like a drunk staying out of a bar.

    Darcy, that's a lovely attitude.

Heh. Irish people get mad and break things. Scottish people get mad and break people.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I believe I'm a tad Scottish too. And Viking. Terrible combo!

    (Thank you.)

    ReplyDelete
  103. Throw in Comanche and Zulu and you would be a killing machine, Darce, a killing machine!

Seriously, I did read about a guy who had ancestry like that and he couldn't figure out why he was always getting into fights.

Dude, what you need to figure out is it you aren't fighting 24 hours a day!

    ReplyDelete
  104. So you navigate long distances to meet other people and kill them, then once the hard work is done you sit down and have a few beers.

And there's probably some singing involved too.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  105. That is a sound plan - lock and load!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Hahaha. You guys. :)

Of course I eventually sing. Good call.

    ReplyDelete
  107. blood does tell.

I knew a guy, sweetest man in the world. Was a massage therapist, but he invented a whole new way of working. Listened to old broadway songs while he worked.

Descended from Normans. Every once in a while something would excite that blood and he'd just go off. In his late 60's with long white hair and beard he faced down a couple of 20 something motorcycle punks who tried to run him off the road (in his big ol' white caddy...cuz they thought he was a soft old dude).

Only the arrival of the popo kept those two kids from being badly hurt, I swear.

  108. Me, I am an even tempered Englishman. From Appalachia. We never get mad about anything.

    We get stabby. And shooty.

But mainly just work on our back muscles by carrying grudges.

NO and HELL NO. Sorry for the caps. You are a class act, while Meade is a sniveling troll who brings nothing to anywhere he goes...he is a taker.

IMO, and I just mean me (and maybe Haz), I'd delete him even if he was saying "Hail Marys" just because nothing he does is in good faith, and given a chance he will try very hard to hurt and embarrass other commenters, with vile comments...as he has proven repeatedly.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yes. I'm familiar with the breed. You can tell them by their lopsided gait, usually with one shoulder hanging lower than the other.

My blood wants me to explode and solve problems directly. But no one wants to play those games anymore. I can't even try and scare people anymore without people calling the cops and hiding in their offices.

    It's embarrassing.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Darcy, Great post. And you're so nice, I would deleted about 20 of the comments. Zing, zip. Tasteless comment, zip. Something off-topic, zing. Goodbye bad comment.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I'd just edit Meade's posts so they said funny things.

"I love the way Crack's ass tastes when he lets me lick it"

    ...you know, things like that.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I hope you have a little angel on your other shoulder, Haz, just sayin'...

    ReplyDelete
  114. You guys are cracking me up!

And thank you, rcocean and Aridog.

Excellent advice. However, there is one serious advantage to a WordPress blog: You can edit comments, which, IMHO, would be the most fun of all.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Wordpress editing is the ultimate in pest/troll control. They hate having their snark changed.

"I hate your guts" becomes "I love you".

    ReplyDelete
  117. Pogo and blake helped me figure out what was bugging me so much about Revenant's question/taunt.

It is done in bad faith. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Almost everything Rev does is in bad faith.

    ReplyDelete
  119. But oh, the smugness.

There are none so smug as those who are completely wrong about fundamental things.

It's gotten to the point where, personally, if I start feeling smug, I look around for what I've got wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Haha! That's so true. The smug will undermine you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yes, indeed, Darcy! Blake has some very wise words, too. The older I get (still happening, dammit), the more I appreciate the truth of what he says.

BTW, I don't think Rev is so much in "bad faith," as "a compleat idiot." He lives in his own little world, full of mistaken categories, faulty assumptions, and the inevitable whacky conclusions. I think he really means what he writes. That's why I avoid the unfiltered internet these days. Too many nutcases.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Heh. I wanted to say complete idiot ("compleat" reads so much cooler though) but was afraid I was being judgemental again.

I was actually really really smug about something the other night, but I got over it in a hurry.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I was sincere when I repeated the meme from Durham in Wonderland when I asked, in all sincerity over at TOOP "Is rev a communist?"

I really can't figure out where the heck he is coming from.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Also, I've got to tell you, the last thing I would publicly discuss is abortion. The portion of the world we live in has moved into a situation where some distant results of virtue (diversity, inclusion, and other PC etceteras) have become the sole origins of public morality. The underlying philosophy is entirely transactional and materialist. As we live in an increasingly artificial environment, where the internet would replace our souls (an avowed purpose of Google, differently stated, of course), it is not to be expected that many would have an understanding of the transcendent, or how that might relate (if you allow its existence) in any way to physical or spiritual life. This will, inevitably, tell its own story. I don't think it will be a good one by past human standards. But there's no fighting it now. And I won't be here that much longer (I'm not sick, just old), so it doesn't seem worth it to me to waste the slightest effort to publicly go against the times. Privately, I do what I can for myself and others. But to become a public scold in any way countering the modern world is both bad for me and futile, and I will not do it. This may be Meade's answer, but, of course he wasn't really looking for one, just a rhetorical hobby horse to ride around his pile of horseshit.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Further up in this thread, Palladian said something that's been rolling around in my mind since and that's this:

I am always moved by sincere inquiry.

It stayed with me because I'd recently seen TY respond to a serious question from ricpic regarding his current (but not oft mentioned) health situation since surgery, and I was surprised by the exchange and the warmth of the response, enough to make me wonder if going by the "don't say anything 'til they bring it up" rule I'd been following (probably based on the don't talk, don't feel, don't think, stuff from childhood) was really the way I wanted to go. This caused me to reflect on how much I too appreciate inquiry (it was actually one of Titus's more endearing features, albeit tainted with manipulation) because inquiry invites another to engage. Which is really what blogging's about at the most basic level. Sharing something about one's self, one's story, one's thoughts, ...belief, view, humor, confusion, sorrow, delight, outrage, etc.; in the hope of inviting some kind of response, in personal thought or written comment.

When I read that MHaz had deleted all his comments from the Crack threads, I understood his motive for doing so, but also wished he left the questions he'd asked in, because they appeared to have been sincerely asked, along with Aridog's intentional and invitational questioning, in the hope of receiving a response.

I thought Darcy's Abortion post today was a good one, leading to an assortment of responses with some good comments further in. Without Revenant's probing (whether it was done in good faith or not), Chips S's response to him would not have been what it was, and I very much appreciated what he had to say along with Evi's disagreement and input. I also appreciated some of the personal stories, and the links by Lydia. The Meade stuff was a sideline show, in which he too revealed more of his colors.

Regardless of which position or view is being presented, posts on abortion tend to involve and invite emotion, confusion, opinion and intensity. That concern and opinion could be expressed and discussion invited without everyone needing to agree with each other or be on the same page in order to be ok was a good thing.
