Welcome Big Guy!!!

Sure while I was away, Palladian decides to stop by and drop a comment or two. Just like a gay guy to try to sneak in the back door. So to speak.

Anyway I was out of touch for most of the Titus speculation and didn't comment much other that what I usually say. That is that Titus has his own style that doesn't necessarily work all the time but is often funny. Especially dropped like a big steaming turd in a thread that has the usual pedantic blowhards ipso facto each other. Palladian is right that every so often Titus does seem pissed off and can jot off a nasty comment or two. But hey we are can get our knickers in a twist.

One thing I want to clear up. Although Palladian tries to come off as this cynical curmudgeon he is in fact one of the nicest people you could happen to meet. I am proud to call him a friend. Don't let his pose fool you, he is one of the good guys.

I think Titus is too!

But as I often say to my wife, hey what the fuck do I know?

  1. First off...glad you're back, Trooper. And to think some of us (Ok...me) were thinking of sending a search squad!

I never bought into the cynical curmudgeon! Palladian is so cool, and you're lucky to have him as a friend.

  2. I hope to claim him as a friend. I don't want to presume too much, but I think he is a pretty cool guy. He just has to stay away from that perfume. It makes him testy.

  3. Well like I said in that thread, I'll take Titus over Michaeluckyoldson anyday. Then again, that is setting the bar pretty low.

I always pictured Palladian as a pretty level headed, common sense kind of guy. The only time I get pissed at him is when he's talking about how much he's enjoying some high society Scotch like Edinbugh 1540 aged in the cask for 750 years or something and I'm sitting here with a half a fifth of Dewers from fuckin Kroger.

  4. It's all a pose. He's a Pabst Blue Ribbon kind of guy. Hee hee.

  5. Speaking of alcohol, I finally tested my Hoosier Stout I brewed at the end of last month and I'm pleased to say it was a huge success. In fact, it was so successful, I need to brew another batch.

As soon as the hangover goes away that is.

  6. I did laugh about how they should put up a thread about different commenters for everyone to talk about. I agree with one person who shall remain nameless that it was kinda unfair to pick out only Titus for this treatment. And you know it is not the first time Althouse has done that. It is a sure fire way to get comments, much like mentioning Sarah Palins pussy.

  7. We have been meeting with vendors and each night after the show we would go out to dinner with one of them. I took one of them to my favorite Brazilian resturant on
46th Street called Via Brazil. They have great steaks and seafood but best of all they have great capirina's. They have a Brazlian Jazz band from Wednesdays to Sunday nights but no one was there on Monday. Anyway this dude gets up and goes to the piano and of all things starts to play the theme for Chariots of Fire. Now what is a Trooper who has had seven capirinas and three shots of rum to do? Why act out the final slow motion race at the end of the movie, with arms failing and running like on the beach. Of course without leaving your seat.

Got another three free shots of rum out of that one.

When I asked the guy to play the theme to "Footloose" the wife put her foot down.

  8. I agreed with that "nameless" person, too, Trooper. Funny how that didn't seem to slow many down though.

  9. Yes, it was unfair to Titus. It set all of that commenting up, as I said in another thread.

Still, she was looking for people's opinions. And it's hard not to have a strong opinion.

I never want to hurt anyone's feelings.

  10. I never want to hurt anyone's feelings.

You just need more practice. ;-)

  11. My standard reply to someone that said something mean to me was always.

If I had feelings, they'd be hurt.

    ReplyDelete
  12. "I never want to hurt anyone's feelings."

    Uh... that hurt my feelings.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Dammit Trooper, I have got to see that Chariots-in-a-seat thing once in my life. That is hella funny.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Are you serious, Althouse? How so?
    I didn't mean to.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Actually the vendor thought it was very funny and the wife was somewhat amused. But she drew the line at "Footloose" as I am not allowed to dance in public.

  16. I was going to add another Titus comment but I think I'll just let it go.

As for Palladian, chalk me up as a fan. He is one of the great posters(along with you Troop) that I come to enjoy and appreciate. My day just wouldn't be the same without youse guys.

  17. Much as there are no tears in baseball, there are no hurt feelings on Trooper York's blog.

    ReplyDelete
  18. My standard reply to someone who is trying to hurt my feelings is: I am sorry you have confused me with someone who gives a fuck what you think.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Althouse is just trying to rile you up Darcy. Besides we love to insult each other here on Trooper York.

    ReplyDelete
  20. If there is a just and merciful God, I will live to see that.

Darcy, you're cool; I know what you meant. There's no winning in these things; only losing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I'm usually not aware of someone trying to hurt my feelings, so I like to ask for lengthy explanations if I think someone is.

Also, it helps to pretend you don't understand what they're saying while they're explaining.

    Heh.

  22. "Yes, it was unfair to Titus"

How was it unfair? Did I miss something? I thought Titus loved the attention.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Actually, Meade, Titus said the thread had intimidated him. Whether that's just part of the kabuki or not, I have no idea.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I still don't get it, blake. How was Titus's supposed intimidation evidence of Athouse being unfair?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Althouse is a lawyer. They lose all feelings once they hit Tort Law.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Meade,

Oh, I was addressing the "Titus likes being spanked" idea.

The unfair part would Althouse singling Titus out for a spanking. And, if Palladian is right, doing so under the guise of promoting his comments, so as to attack him indirectly--deliciously passive aggressively, as they say.

I have no idea of the truth here. I don't know if any of you are real. Which makes me wonder if I'm real, since I'm here talking to you all.

    "Oh, no. I've gone cross-eyed."

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm not really signing on to the passive aggressive thing. What I do know is that Titus is a hot topic, and Althouse, forgive me, should be aware of that. Anyone could see that proposing what she did would provoke the comments that it did. That's what I meant as far as being unfair to Titus.

All of that said, I admire Althouse very much and of course I could be totally wrong. The fairness of it is between Althouse and Titus. It is none of my business, and I'm sorry I commented on it.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I just can't believe Althouse would intentionally do anything to hurt Titus. She obviously loves big lovable clown. She protects him and promotes him and obviously finds him hilariously funny.

You might be right Darcy, but if you're wrong, I think it would genuinely hurt Althouse's feelings. She's clearly a very sensitive person.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, thank you for putting it that way, Meade. I did not mean to say she did anything intentionally to hurt Titus and will personally apologize to her.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's also obvious that she likes you too, Darcy. My guess is that she's already forgotten about it.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hey, welcome back Trooper, welcome back Meade.
    I missed you guys.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Well, I know my feelings are easily hurt.

    Ha. :D

In other news, I think there's a new long range troll at Althouse. I'm almost certain of it. I guess we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Darcy, I think Althouse was making a joke.

    ReplyDelete
  34. In other news, I think there's a new long range troll at Althouse. I'm almost certain of it. I guess we'll see.

    Indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Indeed.

Too many people already seem to be buying the shtick already too. Bleh.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey, wow! I have my own thread over here! Cool!

Thanks Trooper. You may indeed claim me as a friend!

And I can't stay away from the perfume. It might make me testy, but in the long run I really hope it makes me money.

"In other news, I think there's a new long range troll at Althouse. I'm almost certain of it. I guess we'll see... Too many people already seem to be buying the shtick already too. Bleh."

OMG. It's not me is it?!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't get the long range troll thing. What a fucking boring plan. What's in it for them?

I do think Michael is doing some kind of stupid psychology paper.

    ReplyDelete
  38. OMG. It's not me is it?!

Yes. Your plan must be very very long range.

No. Since "she" confirmed it in weird comments directed at Victoria, and Pogo's already pointed it out, it's Penny. The hostility to Victoria was strange. Wasn't there another troll who was particularly hostile to her? Probably the same one.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "No. Since "she" confirmed it in weird comments directed at Victoria, and Pogo's already pointed it out, it's Penny."

Ha. Yeah, I suspected you were referring to "her". I sensed something amiss from the first vaguely incoherent, faux-obsequious comment.

Do you think it's the same malignant entity that's behind "Maxine"?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I'm guessing it's closer to "Mary"

    ReplyDelete
  41. Interesting! I had the same feeling about that commenter...more like it sounded like some other commenter sockpuppeting. Didn't think of Maxine!

    As Pogo says, how boring!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm guessing it's closer to "Mary"

    Same here.

    ReplyDelete
  43. "Mary" is way before my time. I only recall that brief reappearance a few months ago on Althouse. Did she ever target Victoria?
Michael always sounds more like Hannibal Lector. I'm not getting the same vibe from the new entity.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Did she ever target Victoria?

I can't remember. She does tend to target individual women though.

    ReplyDelete
  45. "entity" made me laugh for some reason, chickenlittle! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. 'entity' made me laugh for some reason, chickenlittle!

Hey, it was Palladian's term @9:27.

But I always enjoy making you laugh Darcy, even if I'm not trying!

back in an hour or so.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ahh..."malignant entity"! LOL. Thanks, chicklit.

    ReplyDelete
  48. War has been declared.

    Hell no, we won't go!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Do you think it's the same malignant entity that's behind "Maxine"?

You know, I completely missed the Maxine blow up. Everyone seemed to think she was somewhat amusing, then I came back one day, and she was utterly despised. I eventually gathered that she took shots at Althouse's family, but I missed it entirely. Afterwards her comments always seemed to have a more malicious tone.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Freeman, all you need to do is take a look at her blog.

    ReplyDelete
  51. "Michael always sounds more like Hannibal Lector. I'm not getting the same vibe from the new entity."

    No, Hannibal Lecter sounded smart.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The whole men posting as women thing is pretty fucked up, pardon my french. Newsflash, the internet is anonymous, you don't have to change your gender to be incognito.

I've always assumed Maxine is a guy. Ditto Penny, just from the little s/he has said over here. Mary and derve who were malicious trolls for a long time, both seemed female to me.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I had the feeling "Penny" is a guy, too.

    And LOL, Palladian. So true!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Freeman, all you need to do is take a look at her blog.

Good. Lord. See, this is why we need the word "bitch" in our vocabularies. I only looked at a couple of relevant posts--atrocious!

  56. ooh i m so sad to hear this about
penny but you know what they say
about not taking any wooden nickels
and to think i already wasted a poem

i mean you think you ve found a new
friend and he or she turns out to
work for orkin boo hoo sob sniff blunk
it s so lonely under the fridge
    sometimes and having a transmigrated
human soul the only contact i have is
with you guys otherwise it s just some other cockroaches and a bunch
of ants who despite being social insects
    are not that sociable
well now that you mention it despite
my having only 960 brain cells it is
pretty obvious even to me that penny is
