I had better days

On a positive note.....a surly black man stuck his finger up my asshole.

  1. Thanks for all the best wishes.

Thanks to Nick for his concern.

I will be making a full recovery.

Heart trouble is no big deal. Everybody knows I am a heartless fuck.

  2. I hear that, my brothah. When I had heart surgery one local wag said "What, did they install one?"

Another smart ass said "Talk about exploratory surgery!"

Showed them - I am still here.

See that you do the same, you big dummy.

  3. Thanks. It's all good.

Looks like I will be in the hospital for a week until get stabilized.

    No cable. No Internet.

    I am fucking Amish.

    ReplyDelete
  4. No cable or internet? I thought you were in an American hospital?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Good to hear from you!

Medicine is a miracle. They'll have your ticker in good shape in no time at all.

The rest of your body will need longer.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Get well, Troop. Are you out of the ICU?

    ReplyDelete
  7. No.

But they combined the ICU with the cardiac care unit.

I really am in cardiac care.

  8. Nothing says, "Things are looking up" like having a surly black man stick a finger up your bung hole.

    ...

    Or so I hear....

  9. Hopefully that black dude didn't have Patrick Ewing fingers!

I bet Titus could have hooked you up on that cheaper than what that hospital is billing your insurance company!

  11. Incidentally, fecaloid is still the word of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  12. A helluva way to let us know you're 57. And here I was thinking you were a spring chicken 50. Three years to 60 and then you'll be in kindergarten again...of old age.

Do keep us posted with blurry photos of the hospital chow.

  15. We are still not in agreement over there with mockturtle about what Guadalcanal looks like.

Turds come in all kinds of shapes. Guadalcanal looks sufficiently turd-like to me to wonder why MT is so exercised about this. If she keeps it up I'll start posting pics of cat turds until I get a match.

  16. Say what you will about the South, but when they worked on my heart they went through my chest wall.

Are you sure you're in a hospital?

LOL, it's all that dressing and butchering of kills after the hunts.

  18. I didn't know that Crack Emcee was a doctor.

Good to hear from ya, Troop.

  20. I never understood that finger in the butt thing, and why my dentist always insists on doing it before he starts.

    ReplyDelete
  21. So great to hear from you, Troop.

I understand that an ass check is SOP in NY hospitals. Gotta keep those places gerbil-free.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Trooper's comment reminded me of this line from Casablanca:

RICK: "And remember, this gun's pointed right
    at your heart."

RENAULT: "That is my least vulnerable spot."

  23. Just in case Obamacare has killed the tvs in the rooms...

    The score is.. sorry...

Tampa 2, Yankees 0. top of the 8th.

    it doesn't look good.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It looks like Mo is going to come in to pith his last game at the stadium.

    I hope you are watching.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Got the Yanks out of a jam in the 8th.

Could come back to pith the 9th.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Daniel Day Lewis had a brilliant line in Gangs of New York (actually, all his lines in that were brilliant), where he used the word "excrementitious".

It was quite the awesome malapropism.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Trooper, hope you have a speedy recovery.

And no internet, no cable? A chance contemplate the meaning of life - or watch Oprah.

    Whichever.

    ReplyDelete
  28. BTW, the picture you put up on this post seems to be blocked at my end...

    ReplyDelete
  29. BTW, the picture you put up on this post seems to be blocked at my end...

Me too Lem. I think it was totally NSFW.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh?

    That trooper.

    What's this?

Jeter and Petit come up to the mound and interrupt the last inning Mo is pitching, take him out of the game, Mo is bawling crying. Petit and Mo hugged for like 2 minutes.

he is now hugging all the Yankee players... play has come to a stop.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Mo comes out for one last curtain call.

    ReplyDelete
  32. He didn't do the Wade Boggs police on horse back around the stadium.

The epitome of humble. Subtlety is the best thing. Class.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The last 4 outs Mo recorded puts him at the lowest career ERA of all time.

    That's huge.

    All under the radar.

    ReplyDelete
  34. After the game ended and all the players had left the dugout. Mo went up to the mound and took some dirt with him as momento.

In the interview he talks about how he got the final outs.

    Nothing flashy.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Aww. Lem is Lemming you!

    It's for Trooper.

I don't know that I could say with any certitude that he do the same for me where I in the hospital and a great Boston player was retiring.

    Just saying.

  36. Pollo is taking advantage of the safety confines of Troopers blue monster wall.

    Petty sneaky bro.

    Blue wall of speech?

  37. Talking to St. John of God, patron saint of heart sufferers, to intercede strongly for you. And Elizabeth Ann Seton, patron of wives for Lisa. Love you.

RcommaL sends thoughts and prayers and hang in there. She can't imagine you doing otherwise.

I'm baking cookies and she's making Italian sausage as we write.

    ReplyDelete
  38. In the interview he talks about how he got the final outs

Lemme guess: The same way he got all the other outs in his career. By getting pitches 2" off the plate called strikes.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Lem is assuming a fact not in evidence. That being there are any great BoSox players. I'm just channeling the Cardiac Kid. I actually like the BoSox but I hate knowing I'm going to have to watch the TV director cutting to pink hats in the stands, w/ their hands folded and praying for a win. I hate that staged horseshit. I've been to a lot of postseason games. For more than half the fans attending, it is their first game of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  40. ChipS, Hatin' on Mo. The Chipster, hatin' on Mo Rivera. Chiparoni, the Chipmeister, saying "no mo Mo."

    ReplyDelete
  41. You forgot to somehow work "big poopi" into your response, spinelli.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Hey, the guy had the skill to put it where he got the calls. I tip my cap. Also, he's obviously a good guy, esp. now that he's not a fuckin' Yankee.

    ReplyDelete
  43. If you're still on pace and tickin' TY, then it appears you've survived 56 to cross over the big line to 57 and the rest of your life. Making it this far is a good sign. May the year ahead be full of life and goodness for you, complete with recovery, restoration and a return to your rapscallion ways.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hopefully that black dude didn't have Patrick Ewing fingers!

    Arsenio Hall.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Great pic, ChipS! I needed that laugh!

One uped by Evi for a double header.

    ReplyDelete
  46. We all need a laugh right now, MamaM, so I'm glad I could help.

But if you really want some comic relief and you haven't already seen it, the latest South Park epi is fantastic.

  47. On a positive note.....a surly black man stuck his finger up my asshole.

Bullshit - I was nowhere near you, faggot - just found out:

    How you hanging today?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Happy Birthday, Trooper - cinzano!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I can't see the pic either, and I don't have to worry about work blocking it. I just think there was an error in the post, Trooper having other things on his mind.

Also, happy birthday, Trooper. The good news is that you can't hear us singing "Happy Birthday to You". It's not the worst sounding thing ever, but Lord, it ain't good.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Happy birthday, Trooper. Lisa texted me last night. Trooper is still in defib, but he was sleeping, something that has been difficult. So, as you read this big boy, don't be afraid to ask for a sleeping pill. In hospitals you often need to ask for stuff like that. But, when you do, they will give it[well they don't "give" anything] to you.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Icepick, Nobody can see the picture. It's Trooper getting all new age and asking us to see ourselves through his eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's a homeopathic picture - so diluted that it is invisible. But it still works.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Ritmo, Arsenio is back! I have been meaning to catch his new act but haven't yet.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Icepick, Nobody can see the picture. It's Trooper getting all new age and asking us to see ourselves through his eyes.

Oh no, he's in worse shape than I thought....

(And I think the New Age reference counts as Crack bait.)

    ReplyDelete
  55. Bullshit - I was nowhere near you, faggot

I think it was Al Sharpton, looking for George Zimmerman.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Ruth Anne, I think the Cardiac Kid will be eating chicken sausage. Now, for diabetic reasons I have made that switch. There are some sausage makers who do a pretty good one. However, once in awhile one must go to pork, it's the best meat!

    ReplyDelete
  57. The photo is a pic of Trooper's junk shown in actual size.

The tough part about sleeping in a hospital, especially in an ICU room is that they make it hard for you to sleep. Hospitals are noisey places, even at night. Plus, if you do fall asleep they wake you up to make sure that you're okay.

Home is the best place to recover.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Haz, Amen to that. I texted Lisa back which is a big deal for me. I don't text or do windows. I thanked her on behalf of us, and told her they are both in our prayers.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Icepick, Ironically, I was researching on possible massages for Lisa last night on Yelp if we decise to go that way. The best place according to Yelp reviews is Element Healing Arts, a new age, full service, spa. It is only a few blocks from them and new agey as hell!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Spinelli, the best places will guarantee a happy finish and have names like "Lucky Dragon". Or maybe that's just for guys?

    ReplyDelete
  61. It was just pointed out to me I should be saying Trooper is in A-Fib, they are de-Fibbing him. But, I know you all understood. So, the Cardiac Kid is still in A-Fib, and has CHF, along w/ a small penis.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Icepick, For Trooper a happy finish is a good shit.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Or, Some Limoncello after a 5 course meal.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Chick, I think you're confusing me and Trooper.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Trooper, I pray you have a complete recovery. Glad to hear there's positive news.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Buon compleanno, tanti auguri, Trooper!

    ReplyDelete
  67. @Icepick: Think of Troop's unposted photo as performance art in which we can all see ourselves.

  68. Yashu knows Italian which is just another cool thing about her.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Just got a text from Lisa. You can tell the stress, something we have all experienced. She was up most of the night @ the hospital, watching Jim struggle to sleep. He did sleep some, but struggling. The cardiologist just came in to talk w/ her. They believe Jim has sleep apnea[another correct diagnosis from Dr. House Sixty]. He also has a-fib and tachycardia. Without being said, I know this is an emotionally tough day. However, Junior Soprano was able to adjust to wearing one of those breathing thingys. And, Jim is smart, tough, and positive. Not knowing answers, including when you'll be going home, is tough. They are getting the proper diagnosis now. But, then there's how to treat those problems. I believe this is going to turn out good. But, I also KNOW it's tough. I also believe strongly in prayers. I've seen them work.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I can't take credit for that diagnosis - I think that was MamaM. I have sleep apnea, but that's a story for another day.

Hang in there, Lisa. If I can make it through all these things so can a tough city slicker like Troopski.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Sleep Apnea is bad, but it is easy to deal with. Just pretend you are a fighter pilot or scuba diver when you put that CPAP thing on each night.

Or maybe pretend to be Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I gave up on CPAP, had a UPPP, then when that no longer worked, switched to a mouth guard. That has worked for years and only cost a couple hundred.

    ReplyDelete
  73. If you have sleep apnea, the CPAP device (once you get used to it) helps you get a good night's sleep. Which is not only healthy but makes you feel great.

Here is an image for this post. It would have been better he was diagnosed earlier, but at least he is diagnosed now.

    ReplyDelete
  74. If the mouth guard works, that is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm celebrating the birth of Jim Dolan 57 years ago today. Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Better "lemmed" than "meaded"

Uh huh! One is sweet and the other is sour.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Or maybe pretend to be Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet

I can see him channeling that character. I call dibs on the Dean Stockwell character!

    ReplyDelete
  78. So it is the doctor team of Sixty&MamaM, dispensing correct diagnoses over the internets.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I walked by Heinz Field last week walking to PNC Park. I guess we know what kind of ketchup they use there.

    ReplyDelete
  80. When the team falls behind they play catch up at Heinz field.

  81. Only the good die young, which means you have nothing to worry about. Happy birthday, you pain in the ass.

Good think you developed these symptoms now before UrkelCare fully got kicked in, otherwise it would have been curtains for you see. Curtains, I say, yeah!!!

    ReplyDelete
  87. Icepick, I was riffing off of Trooper's first comment.

You don't get far if you disagree with The Man.

    ReplyDelete
  88. You don't get far if you disagree with The Man.

I'll disagree with him when he's wrong. And who here believes that JD is actually heartless, in a metaphorical sense? Now I, on the other hand, am one mean, nasty son of a bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  89. "JD" I like that. Commenters who learn things here and then go off into the wider world have "JD degrees"

If Troop were awake, he'd hate that appellation.

    ReplyDelete
  90. @Icepick: I'm going to cast you as Mr Potter and chirbit you as Lionel Barrymore. Not today, not tomorrow, but some day.

I thought you'd like the thought.

    ReplyDelete
  91. If Troop were awake, he'd hate that appellation.

I can't remember who knows what. Also, I forgot that he's a celebutard, of sorts, and that people pretty much everywhere know his real name.

    Frickin' awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I have severe sleep apnea, diagnosed in 2000 when I was in graduate school. I've used a CPAP ever since, and now I literally can't sleep without it. I don't worry about it bothering sleeping partners, because I cannot sleep in the same bed with another person anyway. It's like the episode of Seinfeld in which Kramer wants the woman to leave right after they've had sex.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I'd suggest something along these lines. But I've left plenty of ammunition lying around at my own place and over at Ambiance, too.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'm having some kind of a block because I can't believe this happened to Troop. And yet it did. What was it, two years ago that he had bleeding from his legs? Talk about alarm bells going off. Did his physician sit down with him at that time and read him the riot act? I don't know. But if he didn't it was criminal negligence. And if he did...Troop, life can be good without excess in the eating department. Hate me for saying it, that's fine. But you MUST change. And you can.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Great.

    Palladian as Darth Homo.

    Luke...Who's your daddy...

Happy Birthday, Trooper! This ones for you!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Pandora just sent me suggestions for stations they think I'd like.

Mozart radio, Megadeth radio, and Dio radio.

    What the fuck goes on?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Mozart radio, Megadeth radio, and Dio radio.

    What the fuck goes on?

I've heard the Dio station on my last poker night, and it wasn't bad. But Mozart? No way, man. Bach, all the way!

    ReplyDelete
  100. They sent me the Mozart because I created a JS Bach station. It's just funny to see it in the email--they use album covers so there's the Anubis beast, the Megadeth guy and a harp or something.

    ReplyDelete
  101. It's just funny to see it in the email--they use album covers so there's the Anubis beast, the Megadeth guy and a harp or something.

    Yep, that's funny alright!

  102. ricpic, With Trooper's family history it is incredible his doc didn't have him evaluated. His doc called all his problems allergies. I worked med malpractice cases, defending docs and hospitals. If this turned into a lawsuit it is the type case the defense would settle. It is blatant failure to diagnose. This shit happens all the time. I made my living on it.

    ReplyDelete
  103. What I don't get is, if you create an Iron Maiden channel, they play Priest and Sabbath and Megadeth and Dio...so what's the point of a separate channel?

I don't really get Pandora. Although it is funny to mess with. I create channels for just one song. Which can be educational.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I AM AN IDIOT! As the donations came in, I responded w/ thanks. However, I sent then to my wife!!! That has been corrected. However, for some reason, there were no email return addresses for blake, Darcy, and Pogo. So, thanks to you good people. And Darcy, my bride asked me if you made a mistake in donating twice. I told her you have GOCD. That means Generous Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

I just checked the status of the fruit, I got the message it is "en fruit." Way to cutesy for me.

    ReplyDelete
  105. "en fruit"?

The Boy would stab them. Pretty sure that'd be legal.

    ReplyDelete
  106. We just received a donation from Susan the Lurker. There was no return email but she loves Trooper. I can get Trooper her last name if he doesn't know this generous lurker.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Nick, my father had a recurring brain tumor which a doctor initially diagnosed and attempted to treat as acute sinusitis. What had happened was that 10 years had passed since his first surgery and he changed primary physicians under a new HMO plan.

Yep. With other doctors, pharmacists, the IRS, the NSA, FBI, ATF various other three letter agencies and, should you become a threat of any kind, to MSNBC, CNN and the NY Times.

They're just gonna share the fuck out of your records.

Pandora was initially created to take characteristics of elements within the music you are initially asking for and then find other music that contains that kind of audio 'dna' and then give it to you to thumb up or down. Yeah, I have a lot of death metal stations and a lot of times some music that has no business being there comes in, so I just thumb down and tell it not to play that again and it usually works pretty well.

I'd be reading this doctor the riot act from my bed while I was downing a giant cinnamon roll with a yoohoo to chase it with. Fucking negligent bastard let Troop go on about his business like it's all good only to have him go through this way for years. I never had that sort of record sharing fail between doctors but I've seen it between dentists. It's an a unprofessional "he's my patient not yours" BS. People need to understand that their records are their records. You are paying that professional to keep records and you are entitled to a copy.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Oh, by the way, can we get a picture of Troop in his hospital bed with his gown down around his waist? I miss his bitch tits and it would go well with all of the other photos of him in the water or just topless in general. :D

    ReplyDelete
  115. There is an older generation (my parents) who have (had) an unswerving trust in the medical profession. That trust is dying out with them. It's sort of like the job for life ethos. Gone.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I was thinking that about Troop's initial MD. CHF is a simple diagnosis. And there's usually a murmur along with it as a hint.

Plus, he had to have surgery for the varicose in his legs - possibly caused by cardiac insufficiency. Duh.

As my nephew the MD says "You know what they call the guy who graduates at the bottom of his med school class? Doctor."

In our house, we are mercenary about exploring the internet if we have serious symptoms. You want to see you MD with a pile of info if you're not feeling well.

does that side boob turn you on? it shouldn't...cuz it's MY side boob...

  119. Anyhow, thank God, the moke is still with us. So that's the absolute best news for us, and especially for his family.

Any left over money should be used to buy him a health club membership. Or to put an elliptical exerciser at the bar in Marco Polo.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I'm on a rant here. I blame the professional societies e.g, the AMA. I belong to one professional society ACS (American Chemical Society) but I quit for quite some time beginning in the late 90s when they stopped emphasizing excellence in chemistry and started worrying about image.

    ReplyDelete
  121. My grandmother would've worn a chicken suit to church if her doctor told her too. Well actually, if he told her my grandfather should. Funny--the doctor was God when he said something about my Gramps, but not her. Except that she had faith. It's weird.

I went into the doctor once with a stack of info from web md and the mayo clinic site and the doctor got pissed off and made a lot of comments about people with too much time on their hands and such. I told him to get fucked and never paid his bill. The hospital dunned me for it. I called them and explained exactly why I wasn't paying (why pay for an office visit where the doctor only insulted me, didn't treat me?) and they removed the charge from my bill.

Which was nice of them. He's no longer in practice. Now he's the equivalent of a school nurse at a private school. Imagine that.

    ReplyDelete
  122. That trust is dying out with them.

That can be read at least two ways.

Misdiagnosis is ultimately the cause of my mother's death. She had been complaining for some time (at least two years) about pain in her chest and especially her shoulder. The doctor kept pooh-poohing it with "You're just in your 80s, you gotta expect some pain." He did take a chest x-ray once. In which the sternum hid the tumor growing off her thymus. If he had actually sought a positive diagnosis and ordered a CT scan, he would have found the tumor when it was still operable.

But Mom was stubborn and she didn't want to switch doctors, even though I told her she should. So by the time they figured it out it was inoperable and she was on death's door.

Not really a fan of doctors in general, as that isn't the first time something like that has happened in my family.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Any left over money should be used to buy him a health club membership.

He might take that seriously. I hope he takes that seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Or to put an elliptical exerciser at the bar in Marco Polo.

That's probably the best use of the money.

  125. What is death metal anyway? I'm old enough to remember when there was heavy metal. Then perhaps hard rock.

Then hair metal, and glam. Then grunge ate it all...and the next thing I knew there were about 873 different sub-genres.

When I was in 8th grade Maiden, Metallica and Crue were all metal. Poison was crap and there were rumors of other bands but no one ever heard of them.

You must be just a few years younger than me. We remembered Judas Priest and Motorhead, for example.

Death metal would be Cannibal Corpse and other such bands. I remember their album covers being completely covered in PMRC warning labels. Ah, those were the days!

And actually I'm not really into death metal per se, but death metal fans are kind of a sub-tribe of my people, so I get it.

  128. Who here has not been misdiagnosed, by a show of hands?

    That's what I thought.

Sometimes two opinions are not enough.

    You're ugly, too.

I usually let any doctor know that not only do I come from a medical background I am probably smarter than they are, too. Not always true, obviously, but it's a good starting point. I am not intimidated by the lingo, either - I watched ER and House - so there!

Current guy is not too bad, but he's a bit squirrely. I got my eye on him. Picture Jack Elam.

  129. yeah, I had and have priest stuff. Was never big on motorhead at the time, although just in the last few months I've been veering toward it.

I have a bunch of Cannibal Corpse stuff, but I almost never listen. I don't get that vocal style.

I like a lot of the Norwegian stuff. Viking Metal or whatever they call it.

When I was a kid there was only a Sunday night radio show out of Boston that I could only get if I held the radio juuuust right...they played stuff we otherwise never heard. Armored Saint, Grim Reaper, Helloween and such.

Bands we only saw in Hit Parader.

Once I got into high school I veered more into punk.

The great thing about Motorhead is that they kept getting better, at least into the mid-1990s. Same with Maiden after Dickinson came back.

Was the radio show Metal Shop?

  132. While it would be nice to have someone to pin this on or blame, like an incompetent doc (who may have been just that), or excess in diet; with CHF, there's often more to the picture than that.

From "Success with Heart Failure" which I have on my bookshelf in paperback form, this on page 1:

After many years of seeing patients who come to me for diagnosis and treatment of advanced symptoms of heart disease, they and I remain mystified about how this happened to them. On occasion, it is a sudden, unpredictable event. Mostly, however, heart disease is the natural, predictable path of events happening right under our noses.

I often use the analogy of how "symptomatic heart failure" occurs as the "straw that breaks the camel's back." That is, the heart, like all our organs, has so much reserve power that we can use up a lot of it without noticing any symptoms; then, seemingly out of the blue, we use up that last little bit of the heart's reserve and symptoms develop. With this event, patients, families and even doctors are surprised at how a person who felt great and was able to mow the lawn or carry groceries can be rather suddenly transformed into someone who cannot even walk up the stairs without gasping for air or having to rest.

It is this "sudden" transformation that causes a great deal of uncertainty, fear, depression and even anger.

What I feel, and have been feeling since the dread began forming with the Underwater Post is a great deal of uncertainty, fear, sadness, and frustration. Under the joking around here, which helps, I wouldn't be surprised if that's not what many, if not all of us, who are posting might be experiencing; with TY and Lisa in position to feel so even more intensely.

  133. Although I saw that Lemmy had released an acoustic version of The Ace of Spades (and it's good)...that scared me. I'm pretty sure it's one of the signs of the apocalypse.

No, not Metal Shop. It was an in house production at the big Boston station that was more indie oriented even in those days. Since gone and turned into another sports talk station now.

I love Dickinson. Big fan of him. But I actually really liked Maiden with Blaze Bayley. I mean-some of the song writing was a little suspect, I think Harry needs a couple of years off or he needs to pull a few irons back out of the fire, but Bayley's voice fit really well.

His solo stuff suffers from bad production.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I never heard any of Blaze's stuff. I've just heard that it's not too good, and in fact I hadn't cared for Seventh Son either.

If you get the Palladia channel on cable, they've got some interesting documentaries they play for Maiden and Motorhead. There's a short twenty minute or so bit of Motorhead in Berlin (Lemmy does NOT like KISS), and they do an acoustic song which is pretty good (Whorehouse Blues). There's also a two hour doc called "Lemmy" that's about, uh, Lemmy. He's an interesting character, and having seen the two things I'm not shocked about the acoustic "ACE" or that it's good. The most interesting part of that is Lemmy explaining the difference in how he plays bass guitar versus just about everyone else.

And there are two Iron Maiden docs about their Somewhere Back In Time Tour from 2008 or so. One's a concert film, the other is a doc about the tour itself. They decided that the fans at their shows kept getting younger, so they decided to give them an old-fashioned World Slavery Tour. (But don't call it Golden Oldies Tour.) Bruce is a jet-liner pilot (his other gig), so they rented a 757 (or some such), painted up with Eddie on the tail fin, loaded it up with all their stuff, flew about 50,000 miles and played shows all over the world. It's good stuff.

  136. Folks, Here's the way medicine works. Like Icepick's elderly mom's death. The younger the patient the higher the liability. The bread and butter in a personal injury lawsuit is LOSS OF EARNINGS. That is just a formula. The salary of a person, what that salary would have been adjusted to up to age 65. Then if you win, that's what you get. Pain and suffering, punitive, is a crap shoot w/ a jury. The loss of earnings is money in the bank.

So, an 80 year old woman/man have no loss of earnings. They get the shittier treatment because there is a low liability. Not only is there no loss of earnings, that means a plaintiff's attorney won't take it, so damn good chance there won't even be a lawsuit. Conversely, there is a lot of liability for say a 24 year old chemical engineer, attorney, etc. So, not only do they get all the attention, they get overtested..defensive medicine. Neither party wanted tort reform in Obamacare. The Dems are @ least upfront about it. Any healthcare reform w/o tort reform is horseshit. I'm not saying small caps. Doctors who fuck up need to pay. I'm saying loser pays attorney fees. The system in EVERY other country.

Having been through "Hey, I was just carrying giant pieces of white oak in the July heat" to "We need to slice and dice your heart" in a very short time, we need to appreciate every minute we are here and every minute we have with rascals like Trooper. Bad things are lurking out there, all we can do is keep the wolf from the door for as long as we can.

And just so we are clear, my previous comment came off as arrogant - I am not really that arrogant. But I do like to see demonstrable intelligence in the doctors that treat me - I have had some great ones, and for that I am thankful, and because of them, I am still here.

Please direct any comments regarding that last bit to them. Thank you (not you MamaM - that was for the usual suspects here).

  139. Yeah. I kinda bleed Maiden. Even the crappiest stuff they do is still great to me. You know how it is.

I love listening to Lemmy. I watched some of his interviews on youtube and was shocked by how friggin smart he actually is.

Full disclosure I didn't care much for 7th Son...I'd been going on and on to a friend about how great Maiden was, finally he agreed to listen to some, it was the day that album was released so I had it with me, I hadn't heard it yet either...and away we go.

AFAIK he never listened to Maiden again.

Then again, he was a Jon Bon Jovi buttboy so there's that.

I can't believe you tolerated his presence.

Maiden is the best band in metal, and one of the all-time greats in that catch-all of "rock & roll". "A Matter of Life and Death" was the best thing I've ever heard them do.

Unfortunately, I haven't followed the stuff since, just as I haven't heard much of the newer stuff from Motorhead. Around 1999 or so I just stopped listening to newer music and started going the other direction again.

  144. For the record, I don't expect that doctors will always get things right even if they do their best. What annoys me to no end are doctors who tell patients (and their loved ones) that the doctor always knows best about all things, and the patients (and their loved ones) don't know shit about anything. Okay, doc, you know the medicine, but _I_ know the patient. You should at least listen to what _I_ have to say on that front.

Such behavior by doctors (not listening) has shortened the lives of some people I know, and caused me and my wife a great many difficulties during and immediately after her delivery of our daughter.

OTOH, I have had some great doctors in my life, including the guy that put my left leg together after it got smashed all to Hell in 1988. He was an arrogant and blunt doctor too, but he at least listened to what I said, and made decisions based on positive information instead of his off-the-cuff assessments. It probably helped that he was an actual saw-bones, too, as that work is very concrete in nature.

Oh yeah, the great metal bands will always stand the test of time. Sub-genres of metal spawned almost immediately after the advent of metal. In fact, some bands that started way back when, like say for example Black Sabbath started a sub-genre of metal called doom metal (a much heavier sound with downtuned guitars and base with a mid-tempo rhythm) and they didn't even realize it because their sound was different than metal. Still had the same basic roots of tonal execution, but they did other things to make their sounds more distinct. So death metal is another different distinct sub-genre that started with a band called Death. It mainly dealt with the macabre and morose topics of death, doom, dying usually preceded by nearly unintelligible lyrics sung by a singer that uses the death growl or the piggy squeal (not-so-much with death metal but sometimes). The beats are much faster and way way way more aggressive. Now there are many sub-genres of sub-genres. To many to list, but you can go here and explore:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_heavy_metal_genres

also, if you want to wet your whistle on what band is what, you can go here and check them out.

Oh man, you are missing great bands like Mastadon and Gojira, but there are so many to enjoy. Crowbar is great, Pantera is considered more groove metal, but then again, there is a ton of crossover on styles. My death metal and sub-genre collection is pretty extensive. I only get albums, not songs. I try to show the bands my support since the genre as a whole is speckled with a lot of these tiny bands that no one knows about trying to make it big, but the metal scene in the US has changed a lot. In Europe it's massive. I'd love to one day do a week long metal festival in norway or somewhere. They do those a lot and they are always massive.

Yeah, I know it probably doesn't qualify, as even the (somewhat underrated) Bloodhoung Gang's played for them, but it seems like the awesomest festival of festivals. And it's in a Teutonic country, although slightly south of Norway.

Checking the line-up, though, it actually seems like it showcases much of those acts and that genre. And The Prodigy's still around! (And playing in 2013)... Hot damn. What subgenre do the qualify as?

Yeah, for example the sub-genre of doom metal can be split down into something called Funeral Doom and there are a few bands that do that, which is even more heavy and more down-tempo. Best band for that in my opinion and they are just a phenomonal band is Ahab. Check them out. Just fantastic musicianship and music. Very moving, very textured, very doom.

  170. Well....my doctor story is a bit different. Our guy is basically our age. A Vietnam vet. Country boy. Has a ranch in the area. Family raises cattle and is extremely hands on in dealing with the livestock. Very conservative politically. Used to be my client at my financial practice. (I talked him into buying F at 1.50. Didn't know he was going to buy 50K worth...woo hooo). Has been our GP for about the last 20 years. Wears jeans and sneakers to the office. Cowboy boots outside of the office. Has collectible trucks and old cars and we often talk (or used to be able to) about the cars and his condo in Hawaii for some time before the examination.

He is no nonsense and practical. About 1989, I was having abdominal pains and in the ER. The other people were fretting....did I have an appendicitis attack or should they do tests, how long before the tests came back, maybe it wasn't an appendix...yada yada yada. He came in and whacked me hard on the bottom of my feet as I was lying down(to jar my abdomen) and when it hurt like fucking Hell, he said...yep....appendicitis and we operated. It was septic and about to burst.

Since then, he has diagnosed several things about my husband and myself, and he is not in the least offended if we bring in internet research.

He is quiting general practice at the end of next year....but said...if we need anything call. We can talk medicine and hot rods.

Gonna miss this type of doctor. Instead we get Robbie the Robot and the NSA looking up our asses.
