Looking through the archives, in search of bird song, I was
surprised to come across a post a year ago on the Algonquin I hadn't
seen before, even though I was reading TY at the time.
It was
interesting to note that the average post a year ago garnered 5-10
comments, quite a few with no comment, and the large ones mostly under
100 with 40-80 tops. An evolving blog, a dynamic community, with some
things staying the same. Betty Rubble goes way back and appears to have
been publicly pleasuring herself for a long time!
It's a funny thing about blogging. You never know what is going to bring you comments. Or how many they will bring. I do notice that the more threads I post the fewer comments per posting. If I leave something up for a couple of days the comment number goes up. But if I am very prolific most of the threads get one or two comments.
Ever since the show started filming in February I have been really, really busy. Not just with the filming and the promotion but the aftermath with the increased sales which are really great. So I didn't have much time to be creative like I used to be. I couldn't do long "Laura Bush's Diary" posts or more creative stuff like Inspector Lestrade and the "Case of the Disappearing Douchebag." Plus since Spinelli is always commenting nobody would believe that the douchebag disappeared cause they would just point at him and go "There he is!"
The strange thing is the number of comments is often much less on the longer more creative posts. People read them I guess and enjoy them but they don't have much to say about them. The little ones can get more comments if the photo is weird or funny or stupid. That can trump even the most creative and funny post. So it's funny. You just throw it out there to hit the wall to see if it sticks.
I miss some of my favorite series. "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" "Tales of Amy's Garden" "The Tao of Poo" "Buddy Clinton Died for Your Sins" and of course my personal favorite "Tyler Perry's White House of Pain." Some of the other series are a lot easier because they lend themselves to a shorter post. "Marilyn's Diary" and "The Summer of Boo Boo" are like that because it can be a quick hit which is why there are so many more of them. Those are more often about the photo than the story. "Commentor Memories" is also photo driven and a lot easier to pump out. "Laura Bush's Diary" takes a lot more thought and is a lot harder to dash off even though I often have ideas that I would love to use. But it just doesn't get done as much.
But do you know what posts get the most hits and are the most popular?
Camel toe posts.
Go figure.

I think I figured it out!

Blogger must have put in a new spam filter or something and it has knocked out a few comments the last couple of days. I think I might have fixed the problem but if you post something and it is deleted it is definitely the Spam filter.
Just let me know and I will root around in the Spam box and put it back. So to speak.

New friends!

I went over to the Ace of Spades site for the first time in a long time and I must say that I was a little disconcerted. I hadn't been there in a while and I didn't get the vibe.
And the other place had several strange people show up. It's weird. You know like when you go to your favorite bar and bunch of people you don't know are there taking over and you wonder what the hell is going on.
That always happens this time of year. You know you go to your favorite pub but it is full of new people out celebrating the holiday. It gives the joint a very different vibe. Not bad or good just different.

Sometimes we can get lost.

Sometimes you can get lost in the woods when you post comments on the Internet. You get caught up in the back and forth and the joy of argument and scoring points and you loose sight of the fact that you are arguing with an actual person. It's great to score a point or prove someone wrong but what does it really matter? It's unlikely that you are going to change anybodies mind or even get them to think at all. Pretty much everyone who is involved enough in an issue to post on the net is just someone who is set in his position and will never change.
You can get carried away and start saying things and taking positions that you don't even really mean. You start to freak out and it is not attractive at all. I know myself that I can take it too far so I have made a conscious effort to dial it back a lot and not be so personal. I mean I love to bust balls but not in a really mean way. Cause if you think some of the shit I write is really mean, well you have no idea.
Sometimes it doesn't hurt to be the first one to dial it back. I tell my wife all the time when she has a beef with someone that it is not a contest. Or more correctly it's like a ballgame. I mean at any one inning one team might be ahead but you can get up and win in a walk off. At the end of the game you still win. Because the other guy is just a dick. Don't sweat it.
Go in the backyard with a beer and a cigar and put the game on the radio. It's summertime and the living is easy. Just sayn'

When I asked for Poll Suggestions?

How about" Former Trooper York commenter you miss the most?
We had to go to a wake on Monday and it was an all day affair. It was out in Jersey and of course our car broke down. So we had to take a car service to Staten Island to catch a ride with other family members who were going to the wake.
The wife was a little apprehensive because we were going to see some people who we kind of missed some of their events. You know weddings and graduations and confirmations and what not. With the store, we are just too busy. We can't get to the wedding so we put the invitation aside with the idea we are going to send a gift and a card. But we forget and then when we see it months later we go "Oh shit it is too late to send it now. It would be like an insult. Lets think about it." And we put it aside and it lays there for another six months until we come across it again.
Now I told her not to be ridiculous. You have to learn one thing in life. It is not all about you.
It was about the guy in the box.
Nobody was worried about us or about a missed card. People have their own concerns. Life goes on. You are the star of your own movie but just a bit player t0 everyone else. To you, well you are the Duke but to everyone else you are Hank Worden.
It is the same with blogging. Everybody is really busy. Some people read all the time and only very occasionally drop in a comment like Ruth Anne, Simon and reader-i-am. Others like blake and Darcy are obviously busy and don't have much time and catch up when they can. Some like Hoosier and rcocean and Dust Bunny Queen and John from the SW come by once a week or so. I know everyone is very busy.
I really, really appreciate the people like El Pollo, Windbag, Michael H, Ron,dpb,Peter Bella, ricpic and Jason who comment all the time. But I understand that people are busy. I try and drop by everybody's blog to drop a comment or two. I know that everybody like the feedback.
Plus I have found that I have lurkers, who read and don't comment. Which is very cool.
I just know it is not all about me. So I don't miss former commenter's. I like to think they will still drop by now and again. They might have gone to lurk mode. That's cool.

You always get in trouble when you fall in love with Aunt Peg.

You know in every movie I ever say in the seventies, you always got in trouble if you fell in love with Aunt Peg. She would turn on you every time.
I mean she could never be true. She always ended up banging your brother or your father or her brother or her father or whatever. She was just worthless.
And she never shut up. Yak, yak, yak just a bunch of sanctimonious bullshit while she was in the middle of a gang bang. Seriously! Enough of that.
You are really better off if you just didn't pay attention to her at all.
Just sayn' dude!

Everybody is mad at poor Garage Mahal

I mean the guy was just making a joke. A lot less offensive than most of the stuff that goes on around here. I mean I understand why garage was busting chops. He loves to give his business to his African American friends. And he loves to give the business to his Republican and conservative friends.
Just goes to show you, if you are gonna make a joke about slave girls, just make sure they are green.

For you guys who like to fight with Montana Urban Legend at other nasty places on the internets...

Just know that we are all entitled to our opinions and personal styles. Some of us are verbose, others pithy and some like me are simply demented. But know that the man has talent when talking about what is really important.
Not politics. Not liberal vs conservative. Not Democrat vs Republican. No not even Obama.
He is lyrical and most insightful when talking about the one most important thing in the world:

Will you marry me, Not!

New York Post (Weird but True) September 20, 2009
A woman morphed into a major bridezilla after she learned her pricey dress, which she purchased 15 years ahead of the big day, was stolen from the dry cleaners just two days before she was to finally tie the knot.
Police in Osnabruck, Germany, said the Brazilian-born bruising bride decimated the shop, tearing garments and flipping out Thursday.
Her fiance Montana Urban Legend called off the engagement as he felt she was not the girl for him. "It was bad enough that she ripped me a new one, who needs that. If I want to be abused like that I will comment on that nasty blogger lady's site."

It was the wrong thing to do.

HHHEEELLLLOOOOO!!!!!!

I just want to state for the record that I did not want to insult any of the fine commenter's from Wisconsin who post here when I stated that nothing good ever came out of Wisconsin.
I just thought that as a blogger you were supposed to insult your commenter's and piss them off as per the modus operandi of certain big time bloggers. You know it drives traffic and gets you comments.
But I was just kidding guys. You know I think Lenny and Squiggy are really cool.

No Spam Man.

Any brother can do this handshake thing Mr. York.
Except for Crack Emcee. I bet he will screw it up.
Well I don't want to make it too easy. Luckily Michael H sent me an email of the secret handshake of the Green Bay Packers fans so we will adopt it for the preseason.
After all this is the only attention the Packers will be getting this year. Well except when Brett Farve signs with the Pottstown Firebirds.
Did I tell you lately that the Giants are going to win the Superbowl?

No spam man.

I really want to cut down on the spam emails which I get once every fifty posts or so like all of those big time bloggers. I thought about putting in a word verification system like so many people have but I figured what the hell I ain't lazy like some people we know so I will just delete them when they show up.
Or mock them unmericifully. I mean I don't get so many comments that I can blow them off so easily. I hate when it takes three steps to post a comment. I think it really discourages people from commenting.
But I am instituting a secret handshake. So if you want to comment here you have to shake. If you don't have anyone else in the room with you, well you need to do it with your penis.
Just remember if you shake it more than twice you are playing with it.
You dolls can just rub your ta-ta's.
Thank you, All the Best, your pal Trooper.
