Commenter Memories Number 139 Allie is scared of tuxedos

Allie has always been afraid of formal wear and refuses to date anyone who shows up in a tuxedo. She insisted that her husband wear a pair of bib overalls when they got married and never saw a James Bond movie. She once kicked a maitre de in the balls when he pulled out a chair for her. Her husband never asked her to explain her quirky behavior because he really loved her the way she was.

You see it all went back to a terrible memory from childhood.

More of Allie's Tales of Nasty Nurses

AllieOop said...
I haven't worn a uniform dress for years and years, maybe not since nursing school, try bending over, stretching, lifting, twisting, reaching in a dress, even one not nearly that short.
No it was no pants since nursing school, didn't mean the old codgers still didn't try to cop a feel and some of them were quick!
But hey the tips were good.

Rethorical questions for which we all know the answer

How much fun did Allie have at the minor league pre-season game in Austin?

Did you ever get the feeling.....

That they should have recognized Allie when she went to the Wisconsin protests. Maybe she dressed too conservatively?

Whaaaat? Titus wishes me dead?! Say it ain't so Titus.

No I didn't think you were snubbing me, just busy. So Troop does some creative editing? Ah, now I get it.
By the way I have decided to quit my job and go to work for the Rick Santorum campaign. He is my kind of guy. He likes dogs too! Maybe a little too much but still.
And he has a pretty mouth.

You don't say o_O.

Happy Paddy's Day Allie!

AllieOop said...
I'm off to a Barbeque with stuck up Californians who think our Wisconsin steaks are not real steaks because they come from cow, instead of steer, I say who cares? My Porterhouse is always delicious.

They're usually half in the bag by they get there anyway, always bring their own wine.

I do think it was mean of them to take this photo of me last Paddy's Day and put it on Facebook.

What happens on Paddy's Day stays in Paddy's Day.

Commenter Memories Number 131: Allie talks about her daughters underwear

Allie said I had a small dog named Teddy, or devil dog as my kids called him. He was a Peek a Pom, half Pomeranian and half Pekingese. He was smart, surprisingly, but a bad bad dog, he would steal my teenage daughters underwear and run under the bed with them.

I worked night shift and had to keep the bedroom door partially opened because Teddy insisted on being in there with me, but wanted the door partially opened or he would scratch on it. He killed my sons hamster and dragged it under my bed along with his stash of my daughters underwear.

Being woken up by a snarling little beast under the bed and screeching teenage girls and a wailing 10 year old boy, all trying to get at the beast with a broom , was to say the least, sleep depriving.

I've had Pomeranians before, that were much better behaved, I blame the Pekingese half

Commenter Memories Number 130...When Allie joined a gang!

As a young immigrant girl our friend Allie strived to fit in. So to be one of the crowd she joined up with a girl gang in Wisconsin. They all dressed alike and shouldered girls out of the way in the high school hallways. They tucked packs of cigarettes in the jumpers and hid doobies in their beehives. But worst of all they started dealing.

They hooked everyone in school on cheese.

More of Allie's Tale of Nursing!

Talking about nurses getting pinned and their hats got Allie to thinking about her first forays into nursing. She posted this story as a comment

"Allie said:

Clinical rotations were stressful to say the least. We did our Peds rotation at St. Mary's pediatric burn unit. We were given some idea of what to expect from Sister Jo, but nothing could've prepared a young student nurse for the sounds and smells of the unit.

First day, we walked onto the unit during the debreding time, the kids were put in tubs of water, after their dressings were removed , to soften up the dead skin so it could be removed. The screams alone, that emanated from those debreding rooms was enough to send a student running from the unit.

We were assigned one child to provide care for each day while we were there, with supervision by the unit nurse and occasionally by our instructor when she wasn't stealing food off the kid's trays.

My first patient was an 18 month old boy with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 90 percent of his body. He was found on fire in a crib with both rails up, the parent was suspected , but wasn't yet charged and actually had supervised visiting privileges with the baby.I had assisted the nurse with debreding and the application of the silver nitrate ointment and fresh dressings, he finally conked out from pain and agony of the debreding , despite having been medicated before the procedure. His nurse must've trusted me enough to leave me alone in his room to hold him, he hated the crib and wouldnt stay there ,he would wake up from a dead sleep screaming when in the crib, no wonder.

As I sat in the rocker holding him, he was breathing gently, he looked angelic despite head to toe bandages, I wanted to kiss his sweet face, but found no spot that wasn't covered with gauze or ointment. He stopped breathing as he was in my arms, I ran out to the nurses station with him still in my arms, he was quickly taken and resuscitation was attempted, to no avail. I was almost hysterical and wanted to quit nursing school , it took all I had as a young woman of 22 to step foot on that unit the next day.

Sorry , not an uplifting or funny story today, but there are plenty of those too, coming."

It takes a special type of person to have the compassion and love and the dedication to keep going to work after an experience like that. Imagine the pain that poor baby went through? It is beyond belief. I really respect the work that nurses do. They do the real dirty work of taking care of the patients. The doctors get the glory and the nurses get the work.

Your patients were very lucky.

Even if you are a dirty commie!

Commenter Memories Number 128 Allie and her friends get ready for a date.

Here she was getting ready with her friends for her date with this clean cut young fellow named Richie from Chicago who was a merchant seamen. But unfortunately he didn't show up. Why. Well we don't want to speckulate. So to speak.

Allie's Tales of Nasty Nurses!

Allie said......

Stephen King, Salems's Lot.

Years ago when I was working in Milwaukee County mental Health Complex, the old buildings from 1889 were still standing. They were old , scary and rife with flying cockroaches, despite spraying weekly in the wards.

Each ward was a locked one, the nurse on duty carried a set of keys for 6 wards that she was responsible on her shift, with nursing assistants manning the wards.

The elevators in the buildings were so creaky and rickety, with the iron sliding grates, I never dared using them, so I took the back stairwell. I happened to have been working the graveyard shift while reading Stephen King's The Night Shift.

At this time we had a nurse who was having a mental breakdown and would come to the buildings in the middle of the night, letting herself in with her keys, we were allowed to take home in those days.

I was being paged from ward to ward that night , as it was a full moon (seriously, it seemed they all went completely bonkers during a full moon), so whilst running up and down the back stairwell and being spooked because of the Stephen King book I'd been reading, who do I bump into headlong but the crazy nurse with a crazed look on her face.

I don't know where she went because I ran onto the ward after bumbling with the keys, looking absolutely white with fright, my nurses aides thought I saw a ghost , nope just a crazy nurse, who ended up being a patient herself.
