Fun in the sun!

Nothing like hanging out and vegging. No computer. No phone calls. No bullshit.

One more day of vacation.

I intend to enjoy every minute of it.

Where's my sandwich?

Don't forget the suntan lotion this time!

Glad you're enjoying the stay, sounds like you finally have the Florida mindset.

In parts of Wisconsin, that guy's nickname would be "Slim".

I don't understand it. I've spent some time in a major medical center, as have my wife and my mother. Whenever I looked around, as both patient and visitor, most of the nursing and support staff were obese. Not just 10 or 15 pounds overweight, but 50, 80 or maybe 100 pounds too heavy. In a hospital.

RNs receive a rigorous education. Those pursuing a BSN take many of the same classes as pre-med students. Not a picnic, by any means. Did the fat ones sleep through the semesters that dealt with obesity, heart disease, cancer and diabetes? Or do they believe that they are immune to disease?

In a earlier time in my working career I was employed by a company that designed that built hospitals and clinics.

It always surprised me that, while my employer had a pretty good employee wellness program, many of our hospital and group practice clients did not. In fact, not a few hospitals had designated smoking areas outside the building where employees could smoke a quick butt while on break.

They must not read their own "improve your health" newsletters.

Have you ever seen a really obese seventy year old? Unlikely. The ones who make it through their seventies and eighties and beyond are thin. There's a reason for that; it's the same reason why we'll make the same resolutions again later this week.

Try out for the Jamaican bobsled team again?

Right?

Jamaican bobsled team? No.

Michael;

Mrs. Rustbelt, aka the world's greatest nurse, is a grandma who still shops in the petite juniors sections, so not all nurses are pudgy. Mrs. R. has the same thoughts about overweight and smoker nurses. She cites stress as a causation factor.

These days though, the heavyweight nurses have an advantage in lifting and positioning the massively obese patients.

Bad, bad, bad.

Have a lot of fun, use the sunscreen man, and both of us need to cut out the doughnuts.

Sorry about the Giants. They suck worse than the Steelers - but there is always next year!

You can know all the connections between obesity and heart disease/diabetes and still not be able to get it under control. Let me amend that: you can get it under control but the willpower is missing. Dieting (of the long range variety) takes such self-control that many, myself included, put it off and off and off. I've finally gotten over the hump of resistance to doing what I have to do...diet, but I evaded biting that bullet for months. Plus, I know that for me and for every other dieter I've ever known there'll come a day when we'll all fall off the latest diet. There's no beating the problem, only fighting it to a draw. Sort of.

Ricpic - You might like the Eat This Not That iPhone app, or the book if you don't use an iPhone. I use the iPhone app as a daily calorie logger, and it makes weight loss quite easy.

Sounds like somebody else needs an iPhone.
What I like about them is that I can do a lot of the stuff I used to do at home out.

Incredible device, the iPhone.

I have the computer and phone and all but I just choose not to use them as much as I usually do when I am at home.

I just soaked up the Florida sunshine.

Although I dread the return flight tomorrow at 8am. Into freezing cold temps. Crap.

You need to bend over more, Troop. We seem to be missing your "special spot".
