Commenter Memories Number 59 the meeting of the minds

A New Year is a time for new things. New resolutions. New ways of doing things.

I am reminded of this by this photo of the first time Theo met the Crack Emcee. If these two very diverse bloggers and personalities can get along....why can't the rest of us. I mean we can give peace a chance in the new year.

What's so funny about peace love and understanding. Motherfucker.

I get along with Crack just fine. Disagree with him about some things, like him on others.

Is there a problem here?

It's the former Evil Blogger Lady, now rechristened as the Very Badly Behaved Blogger Lady, or VBBBL, who gets my goat.

If she pulls the now 6-month-old outrageous attack on my 14-year-old son by her porcine pet, Palladian, well, then I might soften my attitude.

Otherwise, it's personal.

Sorry, Trooper.

Don't be sorry Theo.

I just found a great photo of Theo Kojack and a black guy dressed in seventies style pimp clothes and thought it made a great joke.

Blog feuds happen for a lot of reasons that only matter to the people involved as they are the only ones who konw all the ins and outs of it. Witness my feud with Lord Douchebag (bissage) that everyone professed to not understand. I was not aware of what you mentioned and am really sorry if your son was invovled. That is beyond the pale and inexcusable.

But be please be advised that as usual I was just making a stupid joke.

You're cool, Troop. So is Crack. Love you both.

Sure, it starts as a joke, and it's all fun and games, now Bissage is dead.

How do we know bissage had a happy ending?

As I see it it depends on what instrument Crack plays. A flautist could make beautiful music with a xylophonist, but what if Crack plays the tenor sax?

Titus said...

I love Crackee to death.

Lots of drama.

I didn't know about the Palladian comment on Althouse about Theo's kid. Not cool.

Meade said...

"Not cool."

Stop being such a drip. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Meade: One well-known commenter who was there said the same thing on the thread—that it was, in essence, "not cool." I also got e-mails and direct messages from other people expressing similar sentiments.

I could, if you want, post documentation of the entire, sorry little episode, including Palladian's unbelievable comment and follow-on e-mails. People could then judge for themselves if it was "not cool."

I will not do that on Trooper's blog, however. It would be too much to ask him to host somebody else's conflict. He's done enough already.

I have been very hesitant, as well, to pollute my own blog with a description of this. I have found, though, that this episode has seriously affected my outlook on online life, revealing as it has been of such ill-will as I didn't think possible in my little self-chosen corner of the internet. I have been saying more about it recently, indirectly on my own blog, and more overtly here, trying to exorcise such demons as have set upon me because of this.

I suppose, having gone this far, I should tell the whole, nasty little story on my blog, or perhaps another blog set up for the purpose, or perhaps like another aggrieved ex-commenter, just communicate directly with interested people.

But, in the meantime, I will say no more, except that Titus may be unaware of particulars, but he seems to understand quite well how things, particularly around Palladian, may be "not cool" on the Althouse blog.

Wow. I wrote a somewhat harsh but honest and heartfelt reply to Meade, posted it, and it appeared on the blog. I logged out, then logged in again, started to write another comment, got about halfway through, decided against it and dumped it.

In the meantime, my original comment disappeared. Poof.

Is this a Blogger technical glitch? Did Trooper see the post at the midnight hour and decide against having it on his blog? (I wouldn't blame him) Has the VBBBL and/or Meade hacked this blog, and is it now a drogue of the blogger lady's eponymous empire?

Disappearing comments have been an occasional feature of the vortex, but I'd like to know if I can expect them here, too?

There is, of course, only one comment I'd like to see disappear from vortex-land, but, last I checked, it was still in place, oozing and festering. Maybe a cockroach will come along and find it to his taste.

Some cockroaches, I am reliably informed, possess the reincarnated souls of badly-behaved professors, which should give them double reasons to relish slimy, rotten things.

i beg your pardon
i may be a cockroach this time
around because i was in fact
badly behaved i guess if you
think hitting on grad students
is the end of the world
but i do not eat slimy rotten
things no sir even as a cockroach
i retain the taste for finer things
mom here at the house is french
and knows very well how to cook
she s also sloppy which is big
advantage for me in sampling
her cuisine and dad manages to
do things like spill a nice new
zealand chardonnay down the side
of the counter which really makes
the trout with truffles go down a
lot easier even though i do have
to taste everything with these
things on my head

anyway i do my best now having
been a bon vivant last time
but i do worry about althouse
because there s no escaping karma
it s just cause and effect
in a coldly conscious universe
i m afraid if she likes such
rotten hurtful things she may
wind up as a beetle who are both
really boorish and like oozing
fetid stuff but if i have to go
that route i ll just stick with
camembert

I have been traveling Theo and have not deleted anything. I don't delete anything. Well that's not true. I delete two comments in all the time I have this pop stand. One at the request of Meade and one at the request of Garage Mahal because they hit too close.

You guys are free to say wathever you want and mix it up all times.

Trooper York said...

This is a total free speech zone. I do expect everyone to give as hard as they get so have no fear about anything you want to post about anybody including me.

Trooper York said...

I will not delete it.

Blogger sometimes eats comments. It ate about five of them on the EbL's blog and I thought like you THeo that she had deleted them. But then it happened on a few other blogs and I realized that it was just blogger that was fucked up.

Anonymous said...

Well, it's nice to know it was just a technical glitch.

Bucking Flogger.

Trooper York said...

Yeah, I was travelling and fixing up the house all day.

Thanks to the blogging cockroach for stopping by. I have missed him.

Meade said...

I don't think I ever asked you to take down a comment, Trooper. If memory serves, one of your commenters called my wife a "c*nt," you deleted it, I told you I appreciated it, and that was that. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Theo's gripe about Palladian is something else and if he continues beating that dead horse, I predict someone will end up looking like a douche and it won't be Palladian.

The classic free speech position is more speech not censorship. One of the many beauties of blogging is that vain people are free to write whatever they like - including inadvisable information, preening about their own children - while others are then free to correct them through deserved mockery and other comic writing.

Ironically, Trooper, your free speech policy is identical to Althouse's and what Theo is bitching about is that she, just like you, rejects people's requests to delete comments they don't like.

I say - more power to you, Trooper, and more power to her.

If I misremeber how it went down then I appolgize. I think what happened is that you said something like "Trooper is a gentleman and knows what to do with a comment like that." Which I interperted as an indirect request to take it down which I did.

I think it is problematic if you put info out there because you never know what people are going to do with it. That's why I am not going to defend Sarah Palin anymore after she put her kids on a reality show. If you are going to welcome people into your life you are going to have to take whatever they dish out. I mean I would fight back as best as I could but I wouldn't sweat it that much. You need to consider the source as it were.

Theo, it was in the spam folder like you said so I brought it back. If you want it to stand there it is.

Of course you can delete it if you want it is entirely up to you.

Trooper York said...

There are also mulitiple posting of stuff that you and Meade put up. It is definitely a blogger issue.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, Trooper. I think I'll let it stand, although, like anything, it could be improved.

Having learned, from Althouse's spokesman, that I am regarded among them as a vain, preening douche who publishes "inadvisable" information, and that, from the same source, Palladian's comment is "comic mockery," I really don't think there is anything more to say.

I may have been too forward in describing here just how the shoe pinched, but I think it illustrates how Althouse has developed such a group of disgruntled former followers, mostly those who were original or early commenters on her blog. Our stories are all different, but I think the common thread is how badly we each feel we have been used, often featuring some episode of the inconsistent and hostile application of "free speech."

Jimmy Stewart once said, "There's something wrong with a man who is not in love with Myrna Loy," a sentiment that's hard to disagree with. Another opinion I now respect all the more, came from Gerard Van der Leun, I believe, the other week on Twitter. He said, "There's something wrong with a person who hasn't been attacked on Althouse."

Both cases may entail some regarding you as a douche. But both of them also put you in very good company, which I am now honored to join.

Okay.

And when I say okay, what I mean is - oh really?
