Live bait needs wiggle room and a chance to be seen. Or not.
The last time I went fishing was up in the mountains east of here with my kids. We were camping on private land. The owner rented access (and not much else). There was a small pond there, created by a weir. I asked the guy what worked for bait. He looked at me and said: "seriously? go back do the road and pick up some of those little cheese sticks...cut 'em up and put 'em on the hook. The fish eat them up."
When I was a kid my family would serve (along with turkey, ham and traditional sides) a few trays of shells, manacotti, or lassana for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I do not do that any more, but I think I should. Who doesn't like stuffed shells, manacotti, or lassana?
Some rivers ban bait, allowing only flies. Which is fine if you are trout fishing (fly fishing is okay) . But for ocean fishing, live bait is often the only thing that works.
And chicken, I have used cheese too...and chicken. Trout often will feed just like catfish.

I hate Sarah Jessica Parker, Robin Williams, Tim Robbins, Susan Saradon, the BJ Hunnicut guy, brussel sprouts, the Boston Red Sox, commies and well, lawyers.

He was right.
Where do you go to get the jail bait?
Those caseins keep rolling along.. Over hill
over dales
Rented ponds
and fishy tails.
MamaM's protean wisdom changes daily but never disappoints.
Go ahead, comment, you know you want to. Think of it as EBLism.
