I wish I was back at L& B

I wish I was back at L&B Spumoni Gardens with a big Sicilina pizza and a bottle of wine and some Spumoni for dessert.

That would be perfect.

I mean the comment thread either goes uninterrupted (latest is last) or it goes branched and looks like a tree branch with little theadlets going in different directions.

I think the phrase "don't bite" repeatedly murmured under the breath would be disconcerting in most situations. Some are just funnier than others.

Of course, if it's not a reminder to the self and instead a reminder to others, that's...well, that's also interesting.

Hey, on the plus side, looks like the new system handles 201+ comments better.

Also, the threading is the only way I can see to allow comment subscriptions. Threading one can get used to.

The script running thing (I don't see it here but I've seen it elsewhere) refers to Javascript on the page running amok, probably part of the comments system.

Hey, this stuff is accurate, not necessarily interesting.

Something is preventing me from seeing the plus 200 comments. Clicking on the title like one does at TOP doesn't work.

I subscribed to the comment thread which is how I can see new ones.

I've noticed that there are now 206 comments and I'm unable to "Load more..." I'll see what happens after I post this comment.

I'm going to make some to bring to my daughter's house for dessert for a dinner party on Friday, with some Californians, who say that our steaks here in Wisconsin aren't as good as in California, because our steaks are cow, not steer. I'm not so sure about that though. My son in law is also known as the steakmeister, cracked peppercorn and some other rubs, so tasty.

I don't eat any desserts made with flour or sugar anymore, but my grandkids will sure love them.

What bug this is it sucks for Windows users.

The last comment that I'm able to read, is the one that I made at 04:27 PM.

I'm using Chrome on Windows at the moment.

I do have to post to see the Oldest/Older-Newer/Newest navigation controls, though.

So it ain't fixed.

In a thread this long, I have to wonder if everyone's following Trooper's recently imposed one-and-only Rule of Commenting.

I tried to, but coming to work drunk didn't work out very well.

There is a rule?

rcommal said...

Sorry. Can't follow the rule. Strictly limiting carbs.

Close but no cigar, not quite the "horror" indicated, but no more Bubba Thongs.

Who is reading this?

Yeah, they may be a thong now, but they started out as boxers!

I love the book, Are You There God It's Me Margaret, by Judy Bloom.

It was very deep. It talked about periods.

I'm not sure if this thread was totally at fault, but looking at this, plus having another page or two open seems to have crashed OS X 10.7 earlier tonight. Safari got into the color wheel of death mode, the Finder froze, and the OS was completely unresponsive. Time to thump the magic twanger and reboot. I'm sending you this now via 32-bit Vista run on the same Mac hardware. Safari has become even more prone to Javascript chasing its tail for obscure reasons. My Mac hardware is a very good Windows machine, so I want to get 64-bit Win 7 and be done with it.

I prefer the linear thread instead of this branched thing, too, but I'm a beggar here, so I take whatever is offered.

That book sorta made me squirm back in the day, and it came out at a time when I was close to its target demographic. (It was published in, what, '70 or '71? I read it in '72--in 6th grade.

Posting in dead threads can be highly amusing some times. Fun!

I don't know how to fix this.

First, folks: I discovered a couple of weeks ago that while the "mail comments" function wasn't available via my computer interface (at least not for the whole thread, as opposed to have respond to an individual comment), it WAS still available if I posted via my mobile. This is why I will often, though not always, post first from my phone and then switch back to the computer. Then I can get everything emailed.

Second, I have no problem seeing comments over 200 *****IF**** I have previously commented on the blog and arranged to follow the thread via email (see above) ****AND**** if I then access the blog via the "Post a comment" link in email. So, for example, when I came to this thread directly (as a check) this morning, I cannot get past AllenS's comment to Chickelit about smaller words. If I come via the email link, I absolutely can, with zero issues.

Third, I am perusing Blogger forums to see what is being said about comments. There is still a long way to go, and I haven't yet seen the 200+ issue addressed YET, but there are surely a lot of problems. Big glitches in their latest rollout!

I HAVE come across the "email followup" issue. It appears to have to do with which comments-option setting has been selected: embedded, full page etc. See this, for example, Trooper.

TBC....

I think it is fixed.

I started following this thread via email last night and I posting via the email link, but I'm still not seeing past the 200th comment. I'm posting on an iPad. What am I doing wrong?

Anonymous said...

OK I take that back, after I posted the comment, I now can see the whole thread, or did they fix it , as Trooper said?

LOL....Now that it is back to the old format....none of the above makes any sense.

I am wondering if Blake can help here. In Googling, I'm finding some answers but they are above my pay grade (read: current skill set), technically speaking (and since I'm not blogging, I don't have a real, active blog to fool with and troubleshoot, to see what works and what doesn't).

But here are a couple links I've found so far that may be on point (you may need to scroll down and read details to see how they might, or might not, apply):

Example.

Example 2.

Checking elsewhere, I'm seeing some other stuff crop up, though I've not had time to look thoroughly (and I need to go prod my kid over homeschooling).

For example, from what I'm seeing, this may be an issue related to using class templates under the new, updated blogger regime. I also saw a reference to possibly switching comments to pop-up window mode until a fix goes through.

Here's a specific post on the topic.

This could be a problem related to cookie *etc.* settings on the part of commenters?

Here's the search results page from which the just-previous two links were taken.

And now I must really go and tend to my offline responsibilities. Sorry! Perhaps someone else can start picking it up from here. (I'll come back later.)

If the reply branch thingy was still working, MotherUnderpants would have this to say to SixtyGrit:

MamaU!

Thongs, branch thingies and now U of Mama. My mind is boggling.
