I could really use a drink right now!

After a long week a cocktail is a man's reward. Or a woman's for that matter. Don Draper didn't invent that. He just help make it popular again.

I would love to have a martini. A dirty dry gin martini. In a frosty cold glass. Shaken not stirred. Three olives.

I am fucking dying here!

I dunno, Troop. I hate it when the bartender shakes my martini instead of stirring it. A key part of its appeal to me is crystal clarity.

We had a cocktail playoff before dinner tonight, pitting Manhattans made w/ rye against some made w/ bourbon. Rye is right.

Tomorrow: Old-Fashioneds.

It's a good thing TY keeps posting pictures of himself. I'm so dumb, I actually start believing he looks like John Wayne, and needed a good dose of pink eye to set me straight again. Now my brain is beginning to believe Chip S looks like his Chips pic, instead of a gent pondering crystal clarity while entering Cocktail Playoffs, pitting Manhattans and mulling Old Fashioneds...an activity more suitable for El Pollo in his all his fine feathered array.

Problem is, I'm a fool for cowboy hats, shades and a sardonic smile.

I start home tomorrow. MrM drove 5 hours down this week to bring me the repaired Trailblazer so I wouldn't be lumbering around the city with the Cargo Van and then drove the van back. He's well used to highway travel and drives a full sized truck himself, so his admission that the Cargo van was a piece to work felt affirming. In my eyes that kind of devotion doesn't require a hat in order to steal and hold my heart.

On the tree front, he finally acquiesced to hiring a tree guy to enter the poison ivy laden area near our home and take down the three huge ash trees that fell victim to the ash borers infesting our area. And guess what...his famous phrase said with disbelief and wonder, "It turned out to be more work that I thought". YES!!

Chips, Brandy old fashioneds are the #1 drink in Wi. I bartended here to help make ends meet when I first started my biz. I must have made 10k of those mofo's.

Chip S. said...

nick, I'd always associated rye w/ guys lying in the gutters of 1940s B movies. Don't know why.

Your mention of WI's #1 drink brought back the pleasant memory of my grandma enjoying a Brandy Alexander after dinner.

Brandy Old Fashioned-so Wisconsin.

My parents choice of drinks and a staple in Supper Clubs in Wisconsin.

When I was little I would go to supper clubs with my parents and get a kitty cocktail-it had an umbrella in it and I would pretend I was "Jenny" Kelly in Singing In The Rain.

Today was doggy days in Union Square Somerville. We went and it was fab. Doggy parade, doggy costumes, doggy vendors, bands, rare breeds of all kinds and doggy groups. Dykes with Dogs led the parade. None of the dykes exposed their breasts though which was disappointing because some of them were hot lipstick lezzes with nice tits.

All the restaurants allowed dogs to sit at the outdoor seating area.

When I looked around at all the fab peeps eating their lobster benes and drinking mimosas all I could think was there is not one republican in this whole fucking bunch.

Somerville which is next to Cambridge and used to be referred to as Slumerville has turned completely yuppy and expensive. As a result it votes democrat by about 90%

tits and thanks.

Chivas Regal on the rocks. Simple. Unbeatable.

Will a photograph around here ever be in focus?

Titus, were you really rude to tourists and accidently on purpose bump into them on the street? I see you as more of a gentleman than that. I mean I know you were raised right so fly right! Don't ruin the image in my head.

Nick - Thanks to your mention, a brandy Old-Fashioned is sitting on my desk as I type this post. Muchos Gracias, amigo.

Good to see you back among us, Trooper. You'll enjoy that first post-antibiotic cocktail, for sure.

Titus said...

Ricpic, seriously, I would never bump anyone on the street.

I am completely polite to everything and everyone.

Everyday I give up my seat on the subway to some indigent.

tits and thanks.

ChipS, Brandy Alexander is a big after dinner drink here. After having prime rib on Saturday, you buy BA's for yourself and your wife. You then go home and she jumps on your bratwurst.

Many places do shortcut BA's. However, the place I worked in Monona[Colonial Inn..classic Supper Club] did it the old fashioned way. We had Schoepp's ice cream[local dairy] in 5 gallons. It was labor intensive scooping out, blending, stirring, etc. However, we had special glasses, we would make the drink swirl on top..pleasing to the eye and palate. Plus, it got those cheeseheads laid. That is if they didn't have Brandy Ol' Fashioned dick like Haz does tonight.

Did I ever tell you whores about the guy who lives right next to me in the Penthouse?

He is a Phd Candidate from MIT who's focus is on Japan. He has a blog called Observing Japan and his name is Tobias. He is totally fucking hot and bitchy, I mean really fucking bitchy.

I totally want to stuff my hog down his bitchy throat.

He also writes some Japan Blog for Newsweek/Daily Beast in Japanese, but he is totally white and not chink and has an amazing bode.

His parents paid for the bitches loft in full too.

Totally hate her but at the same time want to do her. She works out and her guns are impressive.

tits and thanks.

Troop, if you want to collaborate on a Chirbit Western, write me some funny dialog for the Duke, Jimmy Stewart, Lee Marvin, and Walter Brennan. I'll work on a chirbit recital/reading.

Tonight I had a Bloody Mary made w/ San Marzano tomatoes and lots of horseradish. I think some clam juice too, cuz it kinda tasted like a liquefied oyster w/ cocktail sauce and horseradish.

I like bivalves.

MamaM said...

I like bivalves.

I go for brackish habitats...and pearls.

MamaM knows a cocktail from a highball.

MamaM said...

Lol, on my better days I do!

I'm currently awash in sadness after having discovered the fact that El Pollo is closing down his blog for a while. At least, I hope it's only a while.

I agree with MamaM - the good news is that E. P. Raylan is still commenting, so there is that. The Chicken King abides...

ChipS, The standard in the upper midwest is to serve a Bloody w/ a beer chaser. You can always tell a Cheeser or Gopher if there elsewhere and ask, "Where's the chaser?"

Titus said...

Hi Everyone!

I am super, thanks for asking.

I am heading to Wisconsin on Saturday and will be there for a week-I already picked up my Xanex prescription.

My mom is having Vascular Surgery, and me as the favorite, golden shower child, will be there for the recovery.

My sisters haven't even called.

Good luck with getting your 1/2 of the inheritance whores! It is all going to me.

tits and thanks.

ndspinelli said...

You stay classy out there, Titus.

ndspinelli said...

My prayers for your mom.

(of delicious, 8 oz. Angus beef burgers).

Looks like we're off the hook, nick. It pays to delay.

ndspinelli said...

ChipS, LOL! I can't believe McDonalds didn't jump on it. Corporate myopic/bureacratic stupidity. You know Charles would rather McD's to those foo foo burgers

Are you feeling better Troop?

tits and thanks.

Top o' the morning Troopers and Trooperettes.

Saturday, glorious Saturday! I hope the day finds you well, content, happy, adventurous, healthy and at peace.

Trooper, I hope your lingering illness has retreated and your energy restored. Titus, best to your parents, and happy super-clubbing. One of the best, The Ishnala, isn't very far from where you are and is mos def worth the drive.

DBQ, time for a steak cook on the deck and some sunning time. Drop 'em if you've got 'em.

Darcy, wherever you've gone, Here's wishes for a great cabin weekend.

MamaM, Michigan for the holiday? The weather should be great.

Nick - A great day to hit the farmer's market on the Capitol Square. Smack a hippie for me while you're there, and stop at the Old Fashioned for...an old fashioned. Oh yeah, don't forget to hit the Fromagarie while you're downtown.

Everyone else - it's a great weekend to be an Ammurican, so get out there and enjoy it.

Cabin, farmers' market, Strawberry Fest and a hike in the woods for me today. And a nap in the hammock, for sure.

LOL...You read our minds. We are having BBQ pork ribs and it just might get warm enough here to "enjoy" the deck. But first we have to go look at a job site and stop by to visit with some good friends we haven't seen in a few months and have a couple of drinks with them on their patio.

This is our anniversary weekend! 19 years married (21 years together) and it seems like just yesterday that we met.

Everyone.....Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend and remember those who made this all possible.

Congratulations, DBQ!

Finished (almost) the back porch project. Started with re-screening it, and decided to open up 10' of one end and enclose the rest. Morons built it, so I had to try to recalibrate my (weak) carpentry skills to account for it. Bro-in-law and family are coming in tonight, so I just got it done in time.

Ribeyes for dinner.

Rum with the bro-in-law later. Rum and coke, rum and cream ale, and coconut rum with Mountain Dew. I'm flexible. Unless he's feeling generous and brought some Pappy with him.

Before the rum, we'll probably head out for some mountaintop to try to view Saturn. Apparently, it's good viewing right now and the bro-in-law promised his kid we'd try to see it. They're urban dwellers, so the light pollution hinders their viewing.

Rum.

Titus did you like Behind the Candelabra?

Michael Haz said...

Behind the candelabra? I thought it was in the kitchen with Colonel Mustard.

So much trouble to keep up with things.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Michael, is that where Titus keeps it?

Chip S. said...

You sure that wasn't The Candelabra Behind?

Michael Haz said...

I haven't seen Behind the Candelabra. I got a kick out of watching Liberace on television, mostly because of his flamboyant dress and manner, but also because he was an extraordinarily talented piano player.

It seems like all the older folks in my family watched him. Looking back on it, they all knew he was gay (that word was not used back then) and no one minded. I remember his press conference when he claimed he wasn't a homosexual, and hearing everyone in the living room laugh. Not laughing in derision, but laughing at what surely sounded like a joke he was playing on us.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

He was an exceptionally good piano player and a natural entertainer. I liked his advice to the Jane Fonda's of the world.

I am fucking dying here!

Here's hoping you (and Titus's mom) are not effen dying any faster than the one day at a time rate assigned by nature.

EFFEN = Dutch Vodka!

... Deerfield-based Fortune Brands, a major force in the U.S. spirits business, acquired Effen as part of an effort to shore up a category where it's lacking -- vodka...Fortune, a mini-conglomerate that also makes Titleist golf balls and Moen fixtures, seems to have big plans for Effen...produced by a contract distiller in the Netherlands and dubbed Effen, the Dutch word for smooth.
