Remember that we went from an open house to a private party!

Because most of us are not so sociable that we can hang out with other people without being disgusted. Or disgusting. Or something.

In On The Waterfront there's a scene where John Friendly, the union boss, discovers that one of his assistant goons has been cheating on the take and says "You come from Greenpoint? go back to Greenpoint, you don't work here no more," before booting him out. That scene is set in Hoboken.

Anyway, the reason it sprang to mind is because all the folks in this picture would have been right at home in either Hoboken or Greenpoint. Now both those places are off limits to them. Well, mainly off limits to them. The world changes.

I liked Peter Dinklage in The Station Agent and Death at a Funeral. My son watches Game of Thrones and likes him, but I've never seen it, so I couldn't tell. Hated everything about Elf, except Bob Newhart's intro, so I figure that role was just a paycheck for him.

The others in that pic have me stumped.

That was from nick spinelli's family reunion.

He sent it to me in an email.

Nick's the one in the diaper.

Diaper? Them there's his swaddling cloths and he's fixin' to mangiare or get laid in the mange or something.

Show some respect.

How can you see what's in the diaper? Did you just call Nick a little shit?

That looks like last Thanksgiving.....

I'm going to watch the movie Avalon again, for maybe the fourth or fifth time. It reminds me of my extended family's coming to America, and the next two generations who grew up here.

Brilliant movie, well-told story.

Levinson continued the story later in Diner.

That is me in the diaper. Your mama liked it when I wore a diaper after doing her doggy style. She was working the backroom that day.

Haz, Leveinson's great trilogy, along w/ Tin Men. He really hasn't done much of not since then, except for Rain Man. He did a good 30/30 ESPN doc on the Baltimore Colts marching band a few years back.

Michael Haz, "You cut the turkey?"

MH: Actually Levinson did Diner first and then Avalon (as a sort of prequel). He also did Tin Men and Liberty Heights. They are loosely tied together.

Avalon is a great movie. I watch it every time it is on.

Bloggerlady - Not "turkey" but "toikey". Someone at our dinner says "You cut the toikey without me!" every year at Thanksgiving.

I forgot about Tin Men; thanks for mentioning it. Great movie, sort of a riff on Glengarry Glen Ross, plus a Fine Young Cannibals sound track.

Speaking of parties...

Now they are politicizing Miss Spider's Tea Party?

Well if we are going to do that, I think Hansel and Gretel fits perfectly for Nancy Pelosi. Guess which character she is?

That's grimm, EBL.

With Snow White reflecting another fair representation!

We watched Avalon last night. Free to Prime from Amazon. Had a good time, but was anticipating something more along the lines of Justified and didn't have my heart braced for the emotions it touched. It took me a while to recover afterwards. MrM, however, made it through intact. We're a matched pair, with both of us agreeing that the TY recommended viewing list came through one more time!

Parts of Avalon are very much like my childhood, and no matter what people say, I did not start that store on fire.......
