Some times it is hard to suspend your disbelief.....

I mean I get that this Downton Abbey shit is a soap opera but last nights episode was just a little too unbelievable.

I mean Thomas the valet guys tries to get it on with the dude who looks like "The Mentalist" and gets caught at it. And they just let it go and everything is cool and they try all this stuff to keep him on the staff even thought everybody hated him anyway. Way unbelievable.

I mean this was 1921 for crying out loud! Seriously. The lordship guy lost his shit over a former prostitute  cook who didn't even work in his house but a butt burglar is a-ok with him? Just not believable. You can't paint over the values and mores of 2012 onto 1921.

If they wanted to be so politically correct they should have gay married them or something.

The English are fucking weird.

Plus ten minutes of cricket. seriously.

Well at least the bad guy in the series is gay. You have to give them that. I thought Carson's initial treatment was fair--the follow-up not so.

Everybody knows that the focus of evil is that O'Brien witch. Not only does she have a forced miscarriage on her conscience, she's behind every bit of intrigue--well accept for the death of that Turkish dude.

The Turkish dude was actually Thomas' fault--he led him to Lady Mary's chamber.

SPOILER ALERT...

In the season finale we learn why Thomas is so vulnerable to scheming women when his mother is introduced as a minor character, played by Joan Rivers.

She has a fling w/ the gardener, then starts telling everyone they're bloody stupid.

When Edith tries to show her a good time at that London jazz club she stands in the middle of the dance floor and yells, THESE DARKIES CAN'T REALLY BE PLAYING THOSE INSTRUMENTS. WHO'S BEHIND THAT CURTAIN??

@Chip

I'm not the only one who already saw the season finale, eh?

Seriously, not to spoil it, but WTF?! Really?

Gay sex - one more reason not to watch DA. British TV was better when the UK Gay actors** had sex off-screen.

** = which means about 90% of the good ones.

Lord Grantham apparently acted on those Eton advances (he is gay in real life). Downton Abbey has a pretty big gay following, so they decided to make Thomas more sympathetic and OBrien a complete bitch and pretend England in the 1920s was all gay friendly and fabulous.

Trouble is anyone with a memory remembers that Thomas was a cock sucker and not because he sucked cock.

BJM, don't spoil it but it was due to contract issues.

It contradicts Julian Fellowes' meticulous eye for detail and accuracy, so I don't think he can push the revision too hard. His gay audience might appreciate seeing the past as it was, or they should.

And EBL is right--Thomas is a real shit. I'll stop watching if he's sainted. I've dropped series cold for lesser offenses--and I am the canary in the coal mine.

And I like "Justified" better anyways. Gonna watch "Foyle's War" this weekend on DBQ's suggestion.
