Time to study this closely!

Jeez, where is everybody?

This is starting to remind me of the time my parents dropped me off at the mall for a couple of days for a time-out.

Studying 12 hrs/day for the patent leather exam. I only take breaks to walk the dog and slurp a G&T before bed.

Back on Saturday.

I didn't realize that there was an exam for that. Good Luck dude! Hope you pass!

With boning up on shoe studies as a prerequisite.

I'm lost. But that happens to enhanced blondes.

At least you made it back to the TY House of Mirrors where no one's quite sure which end is up.

Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up is one of the questions requiring study for the Patent Leather Exam.

Hey Darce - how are you doing, well, other than that lost thing?

Woo-hoo!

Stay calm, focus, and knock it out of the park today, chickelit!

Or was the exam yesterday?

I was thinking of the LSAT.

@Chip: It was yesterday and I failed--not by a lot.

The Patent Bar Exam is administered by the Patent & Trademark Office (PTO). It's the only "Federal Bar." I had hoped to pass because beginning in April, the whole exam is getting revamped in order to cover many of the new changes in the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act which takes effect in March. I now have to wait 30 days after I get notice from the PTO in order to petition to retake. Counting all the times for replies and approval, this will likely take me into the new test zone in April.

I remain committed to passing the damn thing, not because I want to be a Patent Agent (Patent Attorneys must also be JDs and admitted to some State bar), but because it represents what I need to move to the next level. You may or may not know, but I was "downsized" in January and am presently looking for work. I'm a difficult sell because I'm 12 years out of date in any scientific field, yet have the equivalent experience in IP Law. I was hoping to get certification because such things are becoming more important. My severance package will last me until May or so but after that I could be SOL--like Ron. Well, not that bad because I have a loving family, but it's very scary to be in your 50's w/o a job.

I've developed some good study and discipline habits and I'm afraid these cut into time wasted elsewhere commenting on blogs. I may continue blog myself some, but mainly about patent law issues--things that will help me pass next. I have a very strong autodidactic streak.

Thanks all the well wishes, friends.

chick, I'm sorry to hear that. Did you get an actual grade so quickly, or is that your self-assessment?

Didn't know about your situation. You put a human face on the disaster that is the Oconomy.

chickelit, a certain effervescence is gone from this place when you are away. When that happens, I miss you, along with the gas, the bubbles, and the fermentation that results when you're here.

As for the testing, I left my take on success and failure and the measure of a person over on the "Shit in the woods" thread. Though most of what was said sailed past Titus, the upshot remains true.

Autodidactic is a new word for me. I believe that streak of contemplative, absorptive procession, to be one of the strengths that will serve you and your family as you move through this transition.

And yet I just wasted an hour commenting on TOP!

@MamaM: Thanks!

chickelit, sorry to hear about the test and the downsizing. These are trying times, and those of us born mid-1950s to mid-1960s are up Shit Creek in a chicken wire canoe. Choices and circumstances contribute to where we are presently. You're facing some rough weather, but it sounds like you're doing what you can given your situation.

Not all blog commenting is wasted time. It helps me sort things out sometimes, just to distract myself on a superficial level and let the wheels whirl away thinking about the meatier stuff. Like driving around or playing solitaire. I hope it all works out for you.
