You have to respect the guy even though Boston sucks.

I just finished reading Terry Francona's book "Francona; The Red Sox Years."

I wonder what his next book will be. "Francona: The Tranny Years."

I didn't follow all the crap that was going on with the Sox at end of his tenure. I mean I just assumed that Boston sucked. And they do. Their players and managers always seem to end up hating the team after they leave. I mean it can be a problem for the Yankees too but no where as bad as for the Red Sucks. It seems that many of their stars can't wait to get away from them and too many of them end up on the Yankees.

Luis Tiant. Wade Boggs. Clemens. Johnny Damon. When Bernie Williams had a chance to go to Boston he called George and begged to take less money to come back to the Yankees.

Francona talks about how the Sox screwed him by releasing his personal medical information. It ended badly with Torre. If offering you 5 million to manage is considered ending badly. But nothing like what Francona describes.

It is a good book for baseball fans. Recomended because it is putting money in Terry Francona's pocket and not the owners of the Red Sox.

Francona is a good guy.

Yes, he is. But I think he had to go after the 2011 collapse.

Looking back on that awful season, I think the team was done in by its desire to get Wakefield to 193 wins as a member of the Red Sox, which would've put him ahead of Fat Roger.

But fuckin' Alfredo Aceves blew a bunch of leads for Wakefield in August and it looked like the team started to press in Tim's starts. Then the bullpen started getting overused, Bard went bad, and pffft.

More generally, I think a team in the AL has to be able to refresh its relief staff in late July thru trades, AAA call-ups, and creative use of the DL. There's just too much wear and tear going thru those pitcherless batting orders.

Chip you should read his book. It really sucked what they did to him. He goes after the Boston Management pretty good.

Now the Yankees are pretty tough and I thought that Saint Joe had to go too. But they at least offered him 5
million for his last years salary with incentives that went to 10 million.

That five million was more than Francona made in the whole time he managed the Red Sox.

I know that Francona has Jeter's respect and that is a great thing.

He is a pretty good indicator of who is who and what is what.

I've read excerpts from it, and I think you're right, Troop. No question he's the best Boston manager since, maybe, forever. And team management--especially that commie schmuck Werner--are determined to win every news cycle.

The way things went down reminded me of an argument w/ a gf that just spins out of control and you wind up breaking up and regretting it.

But I'm not depressed about this season. No more Bobby V, and no more Carl Crawford and his amazingly bad hardball skills. Plus, the sick pleasure of watching NYY fans try to cheer for Youk.

The pitching looks decent and there are a couple of live young arms to keep on ice in AAA.

Youk is just the latest Red Sox who decided he would rather be a Yankee.

Even though he blew it and said he would always be a Red Sox.

I think he might get booed out of town.

Actually I take that back.

The real Yankee fans have been priced out of the Stadium.

You only have rich guys now. So they don't give a shit like true Yankee fans.

I did hear that they plan to get Rex Ryan to replace Belichick when he retires.

Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha!

That would make many, many heads explode!

Did you see that Harvard beat NM in the NCAA tourney? All of a sudden, Boston gives a shit about college hoops.

Can you imagine being the #3 seed and losing to Harvard? Hahaha. Suck it, NM!

The weirdest thing about New YS is that the up-front seats are so fuckin' wide that it never looks full on tv. Those fat cats must have really fat asses.

Of course, people can hardly fit into the seats at Fenway. You've really gotta fight for those armrests.

When the Yankees price guys like me out of my seats they are making a big mistake.

The real fans can't go anymore unless they go to the nosebleeds.

I sometimes wonder how much of that luxury-box bullshit is a consequence of the corporation income tax. All that business-expense crap only costs corporations 65 cents on the dollar--not even counting state taxes.

Luxury boxes and suites have ruined ballpark design.
