Hey I am too busy working hard to keep up with who hates me today

I can't even take blurry photo's. I end up taking suspended animation photo's.

Over at Lem's I was saying how I think Stephen A Smith is a moron and AJ Lynch started to go after me. Which was kind of a surprise but in retrospect not so much. He had a lot to say in the Althouse dust up and described me a noisy drunk who got thrown out of the bar. I think he is a big partisan of Althouse and decided to come over to Lem to give me a couple of shots. Which is fair enough. But I have to laugh.

He told me I get sideways with anyone I deal with on a regular basis. Which is of course not true. It might be true of people I meet on the internets who you naturally get in arguments with because that is what you do on the internets. But let me if I get sideways with youse guys.

Since I lost 40 pounds I don't have to turn sideways anymore. I am too busy to pay attention to this shit anymore.

Hey, provide a link so we can find these quality encounters!

I never heard the term "sideways" but I can infer its meaning. We have a pretty healthy relationship here. I think everyone, to their degree of comfort, speaks their mind. I do. But, it is commendable that you show concern in that regard. It is a completely foreign concept to the dysfunctional couple @ TOP.

Maybe a little thawing of the ice w/ 60?

This is not a slang usage of "sideways" that I am familiar with.

I know "catastrophic failure" as in "it went all sideways".

And I know "askance" as in "He looked at him sideways."

"Sideways" as "querulous" or "belligerent", which is I think what he's trying to get at, is not a usage I'm familiar with.

In any case, it doesn't describe you. You are more "impish" or "puckish" and, at worst, "noisome".

I know it as a construction experience. Going sideways is what happens when something being lifted by crane, like a cabinet, beam or log, starts to turn so that it can't fit the space intended or pass through an opening.

A car going into a skid also starts going sideways, a different direction than hoped or intended.

Sideways is usually not the direction of flow.

So when Trooper York decides to go the far end of the balance beam to label someone as a "no talent douche bag who should be working in a car wash" there's a good chance of someone on the other end hearing it as pointed and judgmental than puckish. The real problem occurred when the guy at the other end made the disagreement personal. All in all I thought the comment TY published in response was a good one, because he brought his own personal experience into the answer which led to more discussion and opinion.

The remark at the end of the Malaysian thread, where TY claims to have "read on-line that it was shot down by a bagel", was classic TY puckishness verging on noisome, enough to make me laugh. Good Stuff. Perfectly timed.

Well, it was a pretty good movie.

Sideways is also the preferred view of this model.

40 lbs lost. Pretty impressive. Keep it up!

Just read it. Yeah, that AJ attack came out of nowhere. Although, Troopers response seems to have quieted him.

Season tickets to watch Patrick Ewing? I dunno. That's one guy that looked better on Radio. Don't know if I'd want to see his mug 81 games a year.

Had a conversation about sideways with the elder sonM tonight, who said a load that spins when lifted means the crane is not in control.

He also wondered there might be a nautical/military or racing application. So I looked it up and found this explanation which covers bad endings, racing, and furtive, scornful, and suspicious glances, along with the movie mention.

The OED on sideways.

My money would be on the negative use of sideways coming from a more positive connotation originating in the '20s (def 3c).

To "knock [someone] sideways" was to amaze them or throw them for a loop. I could see that applying to Trooper, though I could not impute malice.

In this context, coming at someone sideways, i.e., at an angle or in a manner designed to surprise or take them off guard, is a good way to see what they're made of.

I just now saw that thread link

I don't read all of Lem's and usually scroll over the sports related posts because it's beyond my ken.

That was uncharacteristic of AJ.

@Trooper: back when you had your health problems are were hospitalized there were two commenters personally concerned enough to independently contact me to see how to get in touch with you: AJ Lynch and Freeman Hunt. Did you ever acknowledge that?

To "go sideways" is a normal everyday usage in my experience.

I always thought it originated from dirt track racing or just dirt road driving, when you got out of control you were actually going sideways down the track, until you can turn your wheels and get back on the "right track".

When I hear go sideways, I think of a breech birth. Which brings us back to the locus and focus we love best.

Wait, that didn't come out right.

This guy knows sideways.

chickelit, you may be wrong side up, or upside down on this one, with transverse lie being the more applicable side show. Still, birth was one of the things I thought of that can go sideways in a hurry, having had one that did.

Chick I did not acknowledge that since I wasn't aware of it. In all of the confusion and things going on I missed that.

Here's the thing. Both Freeman Hunt and AJ Lynch are big partisans of the Evil Blogger Lady and often have taken me to task because of my problems with her. They have been very outspoken and have continually went after me and not other people who had just as serious problems with her. People like Tim and Palladian and Spinelli. Why they have a bigger problem with me I don't know. Maybe because I am a bigger asshole and a loudmouth. That could be it.

AJ came out of the blue today with a stupid argument about a nonsensical subject. I don't care that much about Stephen A. Smith. I would have said the same or worse about Bob Costas or Len Berman or Brent Mussberger or a whole host of other idiots.

rcocean said...

I'll take Smith over Costas. At least Smith can be entertaining. Costas is a pompous, liberal, phony.

What's the opposite of sideways? Other sideways? Counter sideways?
