Frank Cannon got stuck behind the wheel of a Lincoln Contiental for your sins!
I am currently reading a history of Quinn Martin who was a producer of shows during the sixties like The Untouchables, Cannon, Barnaby Jones and 12 O"Clock High.
It is amazing what you can find on kindle.
But you have to be careful. Some of the scholarly works are very expensive. There was a study about Medieval Knights in movies and television that went for over thirty bucks! I almost got it by accident.

Also, some crap is REALLY expensive.
Under the million dollar philosophy.
Sure, a million dollars is a lot of money, but the writer only has to save one.
I just jerkey off to Brazil guys having sex.
They were twins. Twin sex is hot.
Imagine the poor mother's grief if her boys gave each other SIDA.
...instead of giving her grandkids.
The twins fucked without condoms too Chick.
No kids from those twins Chick.
Totally devastating.
What does Mamam think of twins doing it?
Hot or Not?
tits.
What does Mamam think of twins doing it?
I champion diversity.
Yesterday I read this poem to MrM in the car. That he listened and got it fits my version of Valentine Love. As does sitting outside the motel room in rockers on the cement stoop drinking grocery store wine and watching the mountains turn purple one more time in the setting sun. For us at this stage in the journey, it's more about partners than twins.
Freedom
Freedom is not following a river.
Freedom is following a river.
though, if you want to.
It is deciding now by what happens now.
It is knowing that luck makes a difference.
No leader is free; no follower is free--
the rest of us can often be free.
Most of the world are living by
creeds too odd, too chancy, and habit-forming
to be worth arguing about by reason.
If you are oppressed, wake up about
four in the morning: most places
you can usually be free some of the time
if you wake up before other people. Wm. Stafford
We have a Toys for Tots program at work and I am heading a Tits for Tots.
Tits for Tots will consist of Tit Merchandise, slurpy tit cups, ceramic tits, tit pillows, tit cakes, floatable tits, etc. It will be a fun new creative initative enhancing an older program.
MamaM, You are a good woman.
A few years back, someone put a live .22 shell in the Toys for Tots bucket at work. I LOL'd. I'd put a pacifier in a Tits for Tots bucket.
I thought Tits for Tots was an employment agency for wet nurses.
I remember back in the 1980's when I used to hang out at "The Doll House" on Murray Street every day. It was an old school strip joint. Anyway one year the regulars got together and organized a Toys for Tarts drive to get toys for the strippers. Or the strippers kids since they were all single moms.
ndspinelli, I thought you gave up ballbusting for Lent?
Yet there you are over on TOP...
I thought he was only giving up busting one ball.
Sitting in their "Florida Room" with my folks
At happy hour
The sun in the Chivas
And the neighbor
Nice nice guy
Clipping the greenery
Out front
Him aware of us
Us aware of him
No one saying a word
No need to say a word
Such Peace
Such Peace
Christ I miss them
The goal of my Tits For Tots program is to work in partnership with Toys For Tots.
Yet I also want to initiative some process improvements and reengineering efforts.
This will be a team effort, natch.
BUT, if things do not progress I am willing to consider a hostile takeover of Toys for Tots.
I also looking to bring a Tits On Wheels Program to compliment Meals on Wheels.
WTF-Meals of Wheels-fucking waste of money. My parents deliver those fucking meals every week to some of the biggest takers around. They are also some of the largest farmers who are republican and get farm subsidies-bull shit.
"Race To The Tit"
"No Tit Left Behind"
"Tit, Frank"
"Equal Pay For Equal Tits"
"Defense of Tits Act"
"The Dreamy Tits Act"
"Freedom of Tit Act"
chickelit, It's edutcher! He, Shouting Thomas, Ron Popeil and his bride, and Inga are exempt from my Lenten pledge. The Good Lord understands, he doesn't approve but understands I am a flawed human.
There are no exemptions here.
Lily BetterTits Act.
Ron Popeil--LOL!
He's Popeil the Seller Man!
Wow - just read a couple of comments over at the cruise thread - that self-murdering blonde is a fucking headcase.
Jesus - what a blowhard. Based on her fearful attitude she must think that ships fly or something. She is a mess of neurotic fears topped up with an extra helping of stupid.
Could edutcher be any more of a suck up, I asked rhetorically?
I'm usually on edutcher's side of politics. He does seem to try too hard to please Althouse--to no apparent avail. In this regard he reminds me of Tradition Guy.
Pun-gent indeed!
Poor edutcher. Anybody else starting to wonder if The Blonde is inflatable?
I think Trad Guy is usually drunk by noon.
He's an Atlanta lawyer, right? Bourbon and branch water, baby.
As long as we're into TOP gossip, am I the only person on the internet who misses Seven Machos?
Some dyke emailed me requesting our company join a bunch of other companies in supporting fag marriage during the trial of DOMA coming up in March. The list included like every large company in the Boston area.
I was like fuck you carpet muncher we aint signing on to some fag shit.
As long as we're into TOP gossip, am I the only person on the internet who misses Seven Machos?
Maybe so. Althouse must miss him--he was a Chicago lawyer dude. So odd that Althouse never cottoned to anyone who was a lawyer--except her former teachers and that Harvard Race theory guy. She obviously respects and admires Instapundit. Ever wonder if if he reads and comments there?
Intriguing thought, chick.
I'd assume he hasn't got the time to comment, but he clearly reads TOP. If he does comment there, who would you suspect?
I've actually wondered if Byond Politics (if I've got that right) is Brian Leiter.
There is an occasional commenter who goes by "glenn"
Huh. Never noticed that, or made the connection.
This would make a decent game--match the commenter to a somewhat well-known person.
You and MamaM would run the table.
The best MamaM can do is find a glimmer of heart and that even that can be a pig in the poke.
Trad guy is who he says he is, a southern gentleman from the Presbyterian tradition with a deep and vital faith, who follows the Great Commandment to love with all his heart, soul, strength and mind. Prior to his heart attack, he functioned as a connected and high powered Atlanta attorney, but checked out of life for several minutes on his helicopter ride to survival, which leads me to wonder if he may have had a Near Death Experience. Those who do, don't come back the same. If he's drunk on anything, it's the grace of the Holy Spirit and the love of God. He is unfailingly kind and adds a unique and consistent flavor to TOP. I regard him with the same respect I hold for ChipS!
Outhouse is, above all, a narcissist. Her inflated sense of self worth won't allow her to have any respect for anyone who actually practices law as opposed to what she does, which is suckle on the government teat.
I have known lawyers who ran successful practices which means they didn't have a safety net and had to meet payroll. They needed to find cases and win them. Such ability is so far beyond her tiny intellect that she has to avoid even thinking about what people have to do in the real world.
She would rather board a plane than set down her rice bowl. Now I am sorry I even started writing about that nasty piece of work - I need another shower.
Oh yeah - it was 62 degrees yesterday, now it is snowing. This is our third blizzard this year. I hate global warming!
I went to college with a guy named Outhouse. Turns out his family is prominent in the community. Large land holders. Own the feed store on top of farming themselves. Genuinely nice guy.
He took a fair (well...unfair, really) amount of abuse for his name, but always took it in stride. He would borrow my phone to call home on the weekend. He would dial the operator, tell her he wanted to reverse the charges, and stated his full name. A slight pause would follow, then he would say, "Yes, ma'am, I do take quite a bit of kidding for that."
The only time I saw it bother him was at graduation. Thousands of students and parents. They called out his name and the place erupted with laughter. For just a split second, a shadow crossed his face. Poor guy.
ChipS, "Inflatable blonde" LOL! Did you read Maker's Mark is lowering their proof ostensibly to meet demand? One PR guy said it could be a "New Coca-Cola" disaster.
MamaM, wise words as always. I appreciate your offering a humane and perceptive view of tradguy.
Nick, yes, I did hear about that. I'd better get to the booze shop today to grab some of the real deal. I can't understand why in hell they thought it was a better idea to water down the booze instead of raising the price.
Must've been the brainstorm of some idiot w/ an MBA and an Outhouse-like ratio of self-regard to reality.
MamaM is conscience of the Trooper York blog.
*the* conscience. Definitely
Ron Popeil--LOL!
I'm thinking of commenting and listing all of the items that I buy on Amazon NOT through their money grubbing portal. We buy a LOT through Amazon because of our location and Amazon Prime free shipping it is easier to purchase there. Plus we buy many items for the business (tools, parts, equipment, etc) because they just are not available locally.
:-D
Nah. Too much work and it wouldn't make a dent in the carnival huckster.
I'd buy my condoms via the Althouse portal if I weren't worried that Meade would ask who was buying the Magnum XL's.
I don't want to be hated any more than necessary.
Thanks for the kind words Mamam, much appreciated.
toodles.
ICYMI, the entire Criterion Collection of movies is available for free on Hulu this weekend.
I take Meade and Althouse's Amazon sales thing at face value. I think they're trying to monetize their blog--much as Instapundit does--without resorting to subscription fees. Commercialism can be annoying and crass but it is also the American way. Commercials can also be funny and entertaining, and Chip's suggestion is an interesting one--buying ostensibly humorous items which would get Meade's attention.
When Insty links to Amazon it seems that he's always pointing specifically to some pretty good deals. He never blegs.
Didn't somebody once call TOP the "comments section of Instapundit"? I think that's spot on. Where would she have been w/o the many links from Insty and the vigorous commentariat?
How often would anyone go there if comments were blocked?
And what's so funny about my condoms, chick????
ChipS, I had to check myself remember and my Lenten pledge to not bust you on your last comment.
MamaM is our philosopher and conscience.
nick, I've always been more than happy to exploit a temporary opportunity.
Elvis didn't write this song
Didn't somebody once call TOP the "comments section of Instapundit"? I think that's spot on. Where would she have been w/o the many links from Insty and the vigorous commentariat?
It's always bothered me to see how cozy the Instapundit is with the bitch. She guests posts, which are typically touchy-feely bullshit and links to herself, and is easily the weakest guest post team member there. Why then does he link to her and allow her to pour sewage on his floor?
Is it because they're both pretentious assholes, being lawyers/professors and all? Maybe he slept with her and she's blackmailing him, although his wife is hotter than the bitch ever dreamed of being...but stranger things have happened. Maybe she has pictures of him and Richard Gere frolicking in a pet store?
Prof. Jacobson, of Legal Insurrection, is fast closing in on the bitch's traffic numbers. Good for him. He has interesting posts, allows others to post, and has mostly decent commenters, although it's largely an echo chamber. I'd wager her links to him have diminished as he's closed in on her numbers. Probably a strong correlation to her wine consumption, too.
Yeah, many of her comments lately have made me think she was in the bag, or box, as it were. Alcoholism is insidious, but Makers Mark is working hard to cure us all!
And as little as I like Mrs. Popeil, she is a better photographer than the perpetually inebriated Insty. That boy is always drunk, taking pictures of bars he lives in, and he has no eye for composition. I guess what I am saying is that as a photographer he makes a fine blogger. But saying she is better is setting the bar pretty low. That's like saying she's the bluest Smurf.
But back to the subject at hand - single malts - for whatever reason I have been trying to learn more about them, just read a long article about Bruichladdich distillery - quite a story. Almost a good enough story to make me want to find out if the ABC stores here carry it. But not quite. Must be the snow and my Scottish heritage that is driving this craving. I think a nap would be a better idea.
Commercialism can be annoying and crass but it is also the American way. Commercials can also be funny and entertaining
There are ways to commercialize or sell and there are ways NOT to.
I've been in sales in some form or another my entire life, from selling articles in retail establishments, selling technical equipment systems [back in the ATT days], selling investments and selling financial planning programs. And to be not so humble I am pretty good at the art if I want to be. The secret to selling is to be subtle and to make your client think that the idea to buy is theirs and to not feel pushed, suspicious or taken.
Everyone knows deep down that when someone is selling you an item or idea that there is some reward, something in it for that person. That's just a fact and most people are willing to pay a reasonable price. What they don't want to is feel like they are being suckered or that they are a non personal item to make YOU money. The idea that the sales person is looking at you as dollars and cents instead of as a client is off putting. You can lose lots of sales by being too pushy, too needy and not concentrating on the client's needs and perceptions. Sell to what they need and want or sell the idea that they need what you are selling. That last one was important in my financial career because most people don't know what they need.
Trooper's wife is a good sales person because you feel that she is putting the customer first. Everyone knows that when Lisa or Trooper sells a dress or item that they are making money. You wouldn't be in business to do anything else. However, if Lisa's clients felt that she was mentally counting the profit while selling and pushing something that was inappropriate for them (the customer)she wouldn't be in business for long.
The chortling over how much money they are making over at TOP is bad salesmanship. It is hucksterism. It is in bad taste.
Now, I don't mind that products are discussed. It is even amusing and interesting to see what people are buying. BUT....to then rub hands together and begin drooling over the pennies and dollars that they are making is just low rent.
windbag, Sixty and DBQ, Bingo and kudos.
ChipS, Being an exploitable boy is better than being a Zevon "Excitable Boy."
You can lose lots of sales by being too pushy...
A friend of mine is an incredible salesman. He had his own drum shop, then was a rep for a drum company. Now he sells real estate. He just opened his own office. Anyhow, at the first real estate company, he had the 10th highest sales in the state for his company. Our town is 3,500 people. Charlotte has a million people. Raleigh, Durham, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and dozens of other towns have lots more people than here, yet this guy is 10th in the state. Incredible.
He wanted me to come sell. I told him no way. He said he could teach me. I told him I had tried to sell in the past and discovered that there are two things you need to do to be successful at sales, neither of which I could do. First, know when to shut up. I don't, so I oversell. Second, you gotta ask for the check. I can't.
When I first started working for a sales organization 25 years ago I was told that in order to be successful one needed to be sincere. Once you learn to fake that you have it made.
All these years later I still sell. I enjoy it greatly. Sizing up a customer in a split second, convincing him or her that my product will improve their life, if they but part with their money. You win some, you lose some, but you can never let them see you sell.
Oh, and windbag touched on a key point - stop selling when the sale is made. You have to learn when to stop talking.
The old boy at the Woodcarving Store gave me a free roll of the new wonder mesh sandpaper that supposedly shakes out. He was so convincing and seemed so sincere I bought another roll without realizing I'd been SOLD.
Oh well, I don't mind being part of the game when the benefit is mutual and both parties are somewhat respectful.
I guess you might say that they are a for "Proffitt" kind of store, eh?
As for being the conscience of TY, I'd rather be part of the heart and soul, but being embodied is no easy task. I've recently started working on a Mandala approach (using a circle for boundary) to drawing with contained/embodied light as one of the themes. I'm starting to think that's what matter's most: the giving and receiving of light. Yet darkness serves as the foil.
@ChipS I like the word humane--it's one I don't use and wouldn't have thought of on my own-but it fits embodied theme.
Windbag is spot on. Knowing when to shut up and asking for the sale when the time is right.
People generally don't like a silence in a conversation and will jump in to give you more information.....if you will shut up and LISTEN.
Also, don't ask 'yes no questions".
Open ended questions get the client to talking.
I guess you might say that they are a for "Proffitt" kind of store, eh?
Nawger Nob captures the essence. I wondered if the pair who handling the sales might be the EightyGrit Brothers. It was a good time. I'm getting better at making clean cuts as opposed to millions of uncertain but close shaves.
Back to the frozen north.
It's not exactly balmy down here, so I can't even imagine what it's like in the upper midwest. I really miss warm weather. I am not cut out for this cold stuff.
Good job on the carving - it is a difficult process, and after twenty or thirty years of doing reductive sculpting I took up working with clay, which can be both additive and reductive. I found I was able to get to my finished form much more rabidly. I am kind of sorry I stopped doing that. Oh well, life goes like that sometimes.
Mac Proffitt could be my twin, but only if I had a hat as cool as his.
^rapidly - altho' those who know me say either word will work.
