Chip's favorite song

Okay, that band sucks. Had to look them up on wikipedia and they are described as avant-garde. I think that's French for shitty. For anyone who thinks it's a badge of honor to be described as avant-garde, remember that Yoko Ono is avant-garde.

What I thought of when I read detachable penis.

I had a good friend of mine who crashed into this crazy old Asian lady on the west side (on the side walk) and then realized it was Yoko Ono.

Yoko turned 81 earlier this week.

The Dude said...

She's always been 81, but now the calendar has caught up with that fact.

Great song, by the way. Lem needs to post more good music like this.

Could this recent bout of detached penises, coughed up blood, and tooth pliers may be the result of a miasmatic condition known as bad air which dampens creative expression?

Or maybe it's the figure skating.

I am well and truly tired of the Olympics this time around.

The Dude said...

There are Olympics? While channel surfing I saw two rounds of curling, but have managed to see not one minute of the rest.

But now we know that Costas and Troop do things that result in pink eye. Unnamed things.

Michael Haz said...

I am well and truly tired of the Olympics this time around.

Same here. It may be that I've grown weary of the games themselves, or the endless hype about (rigged, apparently)figure skating, or perhaps it's just that NBC's coverage was awful.

Chris Collinsworth? Matt Lauer? Meridith Viera? These are not the people who should be doing the broadcasts from Sochi. And Bob Costas, with or without eye problems is simply a drone.

No one on the NBC crew was anywhere the level of Jim McKay in past Olympic television broadcasts.

The Dude said...

Au contraire, Signore Haz, they all should broadcast from Sochi. Permanently. They are all communists. Wealthy ones at that. Long may they remain ensconced in a dacha on the Red Sea coast. Er, Black Sea. Red, black, what's the diff...

Michael Haz said...

Sixto - They usually broadcast form NYC, which is pretty much like Sochi, except for Putin being more amenable to capitalism than deBlasio.

windbag said...

The Olympics have been in decline for quite some time. I think what repelled me the most is the bio sketches they do on every athlete. We don't need to be told what their backgrounds are, because they all share the same one. They've done precious little in their lives other than train in the gym since they were three years old. We get it.

Jimmy Carter took it down several notches with the 1980 boycott. In Atlanta a local diner was sued by the Olympic Committee because its name was The Olympic Diner, and had been for decades. Cheating is built into the system in figure skating, so every four years they cheat for Olympic gold.

People are involved; corruption will infect the process.

Michael Haz said...

Two things bothered me in the Olympic coverage. They're petty, but that's how I roll.

First, that GE commercial in which the little girl keeps repeating "My mom works at GE". Are there no dad's who work at GE? Really, could GE not have had several kids in the commercial, boys and girls, whose dads and moms work at GE? Yeah, let's marginalize dads some more.

Second, the constant mention/views of the two 'skating moms' who accompany the two young American gold medalist pairs skaters. Are there no skating dads, or are they at working, busting their aortas trying to fund their kid's participation, choreographers, costumes, practice costs, travel expenses, etc.? Ditto other sports. It seems that the parents accompanying the young athletes are seldom the dads, at least the ones who are shown on camera. How about some parity?

Crabby, aren't I? Sorry.

The Dude said...

Right on, my Crab brutha!

I just took a long walk in the morning sunshine - out in woods the rest of the world seems far away.

I pray it continues to stay far away from us.

If I were a rich man...

I have from a very reliable source that Trooper is into House of Cards. My wife doesn't like it because there are no nice people, except for Freddy the BBQ guy[from The Wire and OZ]. I'm breezing through Season 2. It is Machiavellian to the max.

Speaking of rotten people, I am here to confess my sins.

Forgive me, but I have committed the sin of looking at internet porn--specifically, TOP.

In what is either incredible laziness, cluelessness or a deliberate attempt to bait Crack and Fen into posting 200 rancorous comments, the blogger in question linked to a 3-day-old NYT article about the incident at Ol' Miss that was written before the perps were known.

The truth is that 3 assholes who were members of Sig Ep did the deed and have been kicked out. The national organization is hugely embarrassed.

IOW, surprisingly not a Libtard Hoax. But at TOP it's more important to chum for a couple of hundred totally predictable comments than to post the truth.

About anything.

Sorry to drag this bloody roadkill here, but WTF it's only a detachable penis thread.

Michael Haz said...

Hi Chip S!

I, too, have committed that sin. I even commented, then deleted.

What a pit of lies and anger.

But thrustworthy. Able to enter numerous posts and get the job done.

Trooper York said...

See what Chip did. Now Lem had to put up his own racism post.

He is very competitive for a Hispanic dude. Those Dominican just love to rumble.

The Dude said...

They mainly stick it to their own kind, only their own kind.

MamaM said...

Yeah, well, what's with the BS at Lem's about not enough interest in Julia?

Were you serious?

Chip A's posts rarely rise above a 10 when it comes to participation.

What does interest look like to you?

windbag said...

If you could choose any body part to become detachable, which one would you pick?

Penis? Bladder? Heart? Ass? Ear drums? Head?

Trooper York said...

I was talking about my interest MamaM.

It was exciting at the start but it sort of petered out so to speak.

You see I don't like writing romance stuff.

The Dude said...

I am with you, MamaM - Troopski is not paying attention.

Buck up, Bucko - we like yer friggin' dumbass stories, dumbass!

Michael Haz said...

Cowabunga. There's another racism topic up over at TOP. Racism must be the new gay marriage or something. or she's fooling around with page views to improver her blog's standing.

MamaM said...

And there you were, on a roll with the rosebud stuff. Even Doc was able to look beyond the surface dirt with curious interest.

or she's fooling around with page views to improver her blog's standing.

238 comments and counting. It's easy to forget how emphatic she was about not caring about comments, just 7 or 8 months ago.

What I object to is the dishonesty. She set a trap for people, and they walked right into it.

You wanna have a discussion about the incident? Fine. It's worth talking about--honestly.

ricpic said...

I went over there and wow is Pogo ever fighting the good fight. Exhausting to fight the constant flow of bilge but he must be up to it so good on 'im.

Reading between the lines it seems obvious that what's at work in the endless breastbeating about racism, white of course, is status mongering. I'm more "concerned" about the unspeakable outrage than you are so that puts me higher on the totem pole. Nothing original in that observation. But unwinnable to argue with an "elect" white in terms of the facts cause who's gonna give up their status points over mere facts?

Aridog said...

I do not mean this as snide criticism of anyone else, here or elsewhere...but, for Gawd's sake, tell me please why anyone posts at TOP?

After what the TOP-Hobbit said and did here, vis a vis several people here, and one in particular, in the early weeks of the revival, why would anyone give them the consideration of comment?

I periodically look at TOP and embarrass myself that I ever was a supporter or sponsor. I'll comment there when Putin becomes a Republican, not before. I'll not give that little dick punk the chance to moderate or delete me from his mommy's teat.

It's not for me to judge, but just for the record, I do not understand.

I just checked the weather for Ithaca for the next seven days. No higher than 20 with lows 0-5. The return of the polar vortex, whatever that means. And to think I was outside today in my jeans jacket, climbed the ladder to reattach that stupid wire the guy installed to heat up the roof to fight the ice damming but when the big icicles come down they pull the wire loose. But it was a fun chore to do and so mild! Mid 40's, like spring. And that's my report from the north country! Dogwoods probably blooming in the souseland. :^{l

The weird thing about Posts. Quality has NOTHING to do with the number of comments.

Chip Ahoy posts these unique, incredibly interesting posts. I love reading them. And they get 6 about comments each, because, I guess, people just don't know what to say, except - "Hey great post Chip".

Then Althouse will do a standard "look at those racists" post, "Crack" and "Inga" will show up, and before you know it - 250 comments.

rcocean said...

And I didn't realize that Freeman Hunt was such a "Crack" fan.

Nothing wrong with it. Just surprised.

Trooper York said...

The Evil blogger lady method is to encourage a couple of liberal trolls who everyone else fights with to drive up the comment count.

I am sure she is up to her old tricks. Why help her?

I am with Ari on this. Let em rot.

ndspinelli said...

I just comment busting Annie, LSL or Inga. To each their own, Aridog.

ricpic: I didn't realize you're in Ithaca. My older son's a freshman at IC. Kinda chilly, but we knew that. My younger paid Cornell a visit. Likes the place, but there's really nothing there for him, except a very large bill for the 'rents. Nice college town, though. Good food and better beer.

TTBurnett said...

The Althouse "method" was in place since the beginning. The reason she treats commenters so badly offline (includes a lot of us) is that her system is a stupid filter. Only the dim would bother with her. *Waves hands* That's me!!
So she treats us like shit IRL, and online when it suits her, because we all prove the old R.T. Barnum adage about the intelligence of the American public. Other than never losing a nickel, what, in fact, does she gain from having such an audience? The revenue from the blog can't be that much, and, frankly, I have no doubt the blog has hurt her reputation among her colleagues. One theory about her sweeping out her blog is that emeritus status isn't automatic, and she wanted to clean up her act in anticipation of a review.

TTBurnett said...

That's "P.T." Barnum, not "R.T."

Once again, I apologize for dragging in mud from TOP.

I completely agree w/ Ari about commenting there, but every so often when bored I drop by for a look. Usually it's totally ignorable, but her gambit today just got me so pissed I had to vent.

Even in the face of reason. It's like she's wedded to Crack as an idea. I found it weird. Her display dropped my opinion of her several notches. As if that matters.

Troop's joke about the dog in the car is even funnier and more prescient.

Aridog said...

Reference my remark, more of a question really, earlier about TOP....

First off...obviously I meant "Lem's" as the site of LSL's predations this summer in my remark at February 23, 2014 at 10:33 PM.

Nick ... I get it why you go there to comment. Amusement. You answered my question. I stopped that for a different reason.

I used to get some amusement dueling with everyone's favorite LPN...right up until someone who knows her well contacted me by email to ask me to back off. Said person related a history that I'd more or less derived from when I researched one of her daughters to defend her about said daughters existence and service in the Navy as a Corpsman and serving in Camp Leatherneck/Bastion in Afghanistan. In summary, the lady is nuts, mentally deranged, whatever. Because I was contacted directly, and responded directly with my full name, etc., I ceased much commentary vis a vis "Inga" and her sundry sock puppets.

Chip S .... I get it when you read some nonsense there and react. You answered my question. I appreciate it. For me, I began to suspect less intellectual honesty in TOP's hostess prior to July...actually beginning with her complete failure to address my semantic argument vis a vis Judge Roberts decision re: PPACA and tax versus penalty. One is a fee paid for non-performance and the other is a fee paid because of performance ...e.g., income, excise, sales, et al. She adroitly dodged that very simple point. She's the one with all the academic credentials" ...yet she would not answer on that subject.

No need for anyone to apologize for reading at TOP, even commenting...my post was a question of why bother. I actually am curious. I gave TOP, and the TOP-Hobbit by relationship, too much credit for too long. I occasionally will follow a link off a blog roll there, and read what is there.

I'll not comment for the simple reason I do not want any documented evidence of any association by me with TOP. That any comment requires LSL's chop is more of a reason. He is a vicious little shit of a man and will use anything personal he can, woven in to lie upon lie, to embarrass or worse some one else on the web...but not face to face to my knowledge.

I promise to not mention TOP again.

Reference Chip Ahoy's posts, I am fully in agreement. Most of his longer ones are educational and fun to read. I appreciate them but seldom have much to say in comments because what do I know on most of those subjects.

Same thing for Chickenlittle's posts vis a vis chemistry. Fascinating and even with a bit of chemistry in my background, everything he writes is more or less new to me or an expansion of what I thought I knew. So, I appreciate it.

TT - Glad your son decided against Cornell. Not that it's any of my business. Just the total dominance of the hard left professors makes it the reddest of the Ivies. Redder than Harvard.

As to Ithaca being a college town, undeniably true and yet you can live here for years as I have and have next to no contact with the university. Although I must admit it's unlikely we would have the "art" movie house, the number of bookstores, the choice of restaurants and the world class library if it were not for Cornell and Ithaca College.

chickelit said...

A few of my recent comments at TOP have been LSL bridge burning in nature. I just want to flame out with style. He truly is a piece of work.

windbag said...

In high school and college, we had an annual ritual where we began bar hopping in Corning, moved on to Elmira, and ended in Ithaca. "The Brothers' Annual Bar Hop" we called it. I was a teetotaller at the time, so no worries on getting a DWI. Ithaca was a great place to bar hop (at least in the early 80s).

@ chickenlittle, not a Jenny Wren nest, nor a dog, but close!

chickelit said...

@MamaM: LOL. That reminded me of a time at Lem's during the halcyon days of summer.

Say, looking over that thread, whatever happened to yashu and madawaskan? The both used to comment here. I miss them.

The Dude said...

That comment thread makes me miss Trooper - you know, back when he was Troopin', to wit:

Trooper York wrote...

"You really are a miserable cunt Meade. Way to kick a guy when he is down. You are just a worthless motherfucker. The stench of you would make a maggot puke.

I just thank Cthulhu that you are displaying what worthless cocksucker you really are.

Man you take the fuckin cake."

Yeah, in the trade those are known as "good times".

What ever happened to Troopski? We used to see him around here more.

Trooper York said...

Well the thing is Troopski is very happy these days. I am recovering from my heart problems and I am very busy with new ventures both business, personal and creative. Plus not going over to TOP has been very conducive to my mental health. Since Leisure Suit Larry has made himself scarce at Lem's there is not much reason to go after him. I am following Michael Haz and Nick's advice to ignore him to drive him crazy. It seems to very good for me.

Trooper York said...

I never saw what was so great about Freeman Hunt and what she did to merit all the praise she gets. I don't dislike her but I didn't get all the adulation. Her posts never impressed me in the least. Now she has become TOP version of a house conservative like Brooks or Pfund. She has devolved into Lap dog status. Sad really.

The Dude said...

For him it's not a drive, it's a putt.

Glad you found some free time, Senor Trooster, hope your meeting tomorrow goes well.

The Dude said...

Hey, just so long as she is not around where I comment, I really don't care what Bethany says or does. She has zero credibility.

Trooper York said...

Yashu and madawaskin both drift in and out of commenting. Some months they comment a lot and then they don't comment for months at a time.

Sometimes life gets in the way.
