Choices
There is always a choice. A book you can choose to read. A TV show you can choose to watch. A thread you can choose to comment on. You are known by your choices.
There was a kid on American Idol who played a George Jones tune in his solo test to make the cut.
"He Stopped Loving Her Today." A pure tone on a great tune. I think it will be a good season this year.
I was never much of an AI watcher, but when I am flipping channels I pause this season and end up watching a few segments. You are right about Harry Connick Jr.
Harry is as funny as hell. But what is great is they all get along.
Last night was group night and in one group of pretty good singers they put through two out of three. So the guy who didn't make it asked them why. Harry told him. He said "Throughout the whole performance you were looking at your shoes. You might sing slightly better than some of the people but you have to remember that you have to entertain them. Make contact."
The kid thanked him and said he would go back and work on it. Harry was very complimentary towards him and said that was the attitude you have to exhibit if you are going to make it.
He is a great mentor and coach for these kids. Truthful but not cruel.
Ol' Possum sure could sing. Jerry Clower mentioned that fact in a joke about using heavy metal to annoy people who are holed up in a building. He said "Just play George Jones and folks would come out just to see who is singing so darned well."
You don't have to wonder What's running through your veins You don't have to worry 'bout Where that cash you're spending came Maseratis and Rolls Royces Everybody's got to make Their own choices.
I hate Sarah Jessica Parker, Robin Williams, Tim Robbins, Susan Saradon, the BJ Hunnicut guy, brussel sprouts, the Boston Red Sox, commies and well, lawyers.

He was a national treasure.
With regard to choices, the Ol' Bat summed it up pretty good too, over at Lem's on the Woody A chomping thread, in reference to Althouse/TOP:
It's extreme cynicism masquerading as well-intentioned sophistication.
That's what mary meant, years ago, when on some thread or another she commented, "You're all being played."
