Back to Back and Belly to Belly!

GM'S OUT OF YANK LINEUP
New York Post (December 20, 2008)
You know things are bad for the Big 3 when the Yankees go foreign.
General Motors won't be the automotive sponsor for the Bronx Bombers when the team's new stadium opens next year, officials said yesterday.
Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lonn Trost said Toyota and Audi will take over as the club's auto sponsors. The new deals are for ballpark signage, as was the previous contract with GM.
GM was a Yankees sponsor from 2006 through 2008.
"We understand their financial condition," Trost said. "I think it was a mutual understanding."
GM spokesman John McDonald said that in light of the current economic conditions, the automaker is reviewing all of its sponsorship activities as part of a plan to cut its marketing and promotions budget by 20 percent.
In addition, contracts with several other Major League Baseball teams expire at the end of this year, and those deals also are being reviewed.
I remember when I was a kid the Yankees were sponsored by Datsun and Sparky Lyle used to be driven in the game to relieve in a Datsun with the Yankee logo painted on it. Of course when we sucked people would throw stuff and you would see garbage hit roof, soda cups and hot dogs and bags of peanut shells.
