Sometimes a commie is not such a nice guy....

Kindle is dangerous.

Since it is so cheap and easy to order books I get in trouble because I order a slew of stuff on a topic and I am amazed at what I get. I ordered a bunch of Hollywood biographies and autobiographies because I would be kind of ashamed of being in line at Barnes and Noble with a stack of books about Mae West and Joan Crawford. I mean I am interested in it but it not all that classy if you know what I mean.

So I got some of my favorites. Two or three books about John Wayne and John Ford, one about James Garner, one about Mae West and one about Robert Vaughn. I was hoping for some cool stuff about "The Magnificent Seven" or "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." Instead there was a lot of stuff about his protesting in the civil rights and antiwar movement. Which is fair enough as far as it goes but what was astounding is the guy's total lack of self knowledge. He writes and sounds like the biggest deluded douchenozzle that I have ever heard tell of in all my years of making fun of people. I mean the guy is a pompous, fatuous dimwit. It is amazing and fascinating. I know I have a bad habit of finding pompous douchebags interesting and comical but this dick takes the cake.

I hope he doesn't start a blog. Just sayn'

And his book is on the "Must Miss" list. At number one.

I guess he is doing local ambulance chaser lawyer commercials because of the points you just made.

ndspinelli said...

Allie, I'm sure you've see his Hupy and Abraham commercials.

And Allie, are you going to take advantage of the 5 county half price Brewer tix this week? Those 5 counties got it shoved up their asses by 2 of the biggest buffoons in Wi. history, Tommy Thompson and Bud Selig.

Let's have a Swingin' Safari instead.

I hear you can do both in San Francisco.

Or, one of my karaoke favorites by Roger Miller.

I always bring down the house when I do a karaoke version of King Of The Road. My frickin' neighbor was singing it back to me for a year.

Here I am in a chicken suit singing about the future of taxation in America: link

"Swingin' Safari" was a big hit around the same time "Daktari" was on TV.

Doesn't he have a daughter that teaches law in some mid-western backwater cow college?

Oh, I just read Troop's post to get the context of what Sixty was saying.

I would never buy that kind of biography. I just bought one about Fritz Haber though. Now there's a tragic figure.

I want to work on Trooper's self esteem. I believe the greatest liberation one can have is not giving a rat's ass what others think or say. You have no control over what others will say..so just be yourself. If a clerk thinks less of you because of your book selection, well then can go shit in their hat! However, in the interest of full disclosure. I go to book stores to skim a book to see if I'll like it. Just yesterday I skimmed the book, Quiet. It looks good so I'll save money and buy it for my kindle.

My image of Jim Dolan does not comport w/ him being concerned what some clerk thinks. Something is amiss. We know Jim Dolan is a pervert, based on his posts, most recently the post that shall just be called "Honey." So, if he's willing to let his pervert flag fly, why not buy books about Joan Crawford in public? It just doesn't add up.

chickelit said...

I haven't considered that and haven't gotten there yet in the book. If it were profitable today someone would be doing.

How about underwater mining? There may be some rich veins just under the sea bed. We should know exactly which kinds of geography features to look for.

Where's our resident geologist?

Damn you, Royal Chicken Clucker, damn you to hell for posting that abomination!

Just so, we are clear, I was talking about the first link. Will not click on the second.

Chickie, the title Watch Scotty Grow, sounds obscene.

When I was in college at Madison, the same guys who did the Statue of Liberty and the pink flamingoes on Bascom Hill had a TV program on Community access cable. I forget the name but they did all kinds of zany stuff including song parodies. One of them was called "Watching Scotty Go" It was about a some step dad pervert spying on a kid in the toilet.

Now that's obscene.

Sixty! I used to LOVE dancing to Shotgun, I don't know how we didn't hurt ourselves doing the Jerk.

The Dude said...

Yeah, that is a great song. It really takes me back to those times.

You take what you need and leave the rest.

I just read that Levon has end stage cancer. Very sad news indeed.

When I was shoveling dirt in the sun today I was singing this song to myself. Damn, I guess the end comes to us all. Thanks, Levon, for writing such good music.

Leon Varijan was the Flamingo Guy. When I first moved to Madison in the early 80's is when the Madison Muskies came to town. Varijan was the unnofficial mascot and invented the "Muskie Cheer." I think he was a Jersey boy.

The Dude said...

Thanks, CL, for the tangent.

Jimi!

I missed two opportunities to see him perform.

Missed seeing Otis Redding in Memphis in '67, too.

Peeps just be leavin' too soon.

@Sixty: Have you ever seen this video? link (that's Bill Graham's voice introducing). It's from a documentary of his "Band Of Gypsys" phase. It has most of the two shows as bonus material, but still lacks a couple favorites.

Vaughn has always rubbed me the wrong way.

But he made a good heavy in Baseketball.

You really have to read his book to realize what a pompous scantimonious prick he really is in real life.

The Dude said...

His ambulance chaser ads convinced me. While Illya Kuryakin is a regular on a real show, A'house's father means business. Sure you do, Bobby, now run along and pretend you are relevant.

I see a stern email from Meade in his immediately future.

I have a hard time reading his prose as "macho", though.

I've emailed Meade in the past, but not for a while. He's usually very responsive and courteous.

That's because he's a two faced weasel, phoney. But, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Vaughn did a great job playing Chalmers, the politician on the make, in Bullitt. Maybe he nailed the type because he is the type. He was of the cohort, born 1932, that worshipped and modeled themselves after JFK, including JFK's amorality. It's ancient history by now but the shock of the passage from IKE to JFK was strong. Say what you will about Eisenhower he wasn't about pure power. There was a vestige of the old America in him. Not JFK. You know what JFK was? style masking a ruthless power drive. I can still remember 1960 when he was inaugurated and everyone went crazy over him. Not me. What was I...2 years old? And I still saw through the guy. Okay, I wasn't 2 but I'm not gonna tell you how old! ha ha ha

Is Seven gay? His prose has a definite gay bent to it. Yesterday was the first time in a thread I think he may have backed down to me, he simply stated Ok! Unbelievable.

Who has really surprised me is Traditionalguy, he is quite the gentleman, yet when arguing his case he doesn't hold back . I really like him and Carnifex too. April Apple turned out to be quite nice too. Some people surprise you.

Poems. Seven's poems.

chickelit said...

I ddin't know that Seven Machos picked poesy.

Anonymous said...

I remember seeing a webpage by Seven with some bad poetry on it, haven looked at it for quite a while though.

chickelit said...

I was gonna say, only a fangirl would go looking for that.

His Blogger profile used to have a link to his blog, it's gone now. I didn't have to go looking for it.

From The Lost poems of Seven Machos:

The Thread Not Straightened Out

Two threads emerged on Blondie's blog,
Sadly I could not comment on both
And make much sense, 'cause I'm eas'ly confused.
I read through one as far as I could
to where it bent in the threadjack;

And chose the other, just as dumb--
maybe moreso, for there lay comments
by morons aplenty, though truth to say
what TOP thread is not so stupid;
really, they're all the same.

And both that evening's threads
in intelligence were sorely lacking;
Oh, I left the first for the other thread,
yet knowing how dumb comments pile high
when I'm not there to set them right.

I shall be commenting there with a sigh,
now and for ages hence;
two threads diverged on that blog, and I--
I chose the one less commented on,
which let me get to bed by 3.

I thought only Carol Herman was old enough to remember JFK in 1960.
