Oh my God I had to go to Costco!

We had to restock when we got back home to the kids house in Florida.

I was out of my element. I usually don't buy toilet paper in fifty roll pallets. Just sayn'

TBH, Costco is useful for only a few things, but they're very good at that.

Our trip to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2011 was aided and abetted by a local Costco--otherwise we would have been at the mercy of local vendors trying to make a living.

I LOVE Costco!!

We go there about once every month or every other month. If we get out under $300 to $400 it is a miracle.

Yes. You have to buy in bulk. For us that IS the feature. Per unit buying in bulk saves money. We have a place to store that excess. We don't need to make frequent trips to our grocery store for staple items...like TP.

Costco also has the best hamburger, they don't add fillers or water. We buy 15 to 20 pounds at a time and then vacuum seal and freeze. Their steaks are pretty good too. Butter. Very good and not too expensive 4 pounds for $7.00. We buy at least 8 to 12 pounds each time and freeze the extra.

And YES they have booze. The prices are right!! We stock up for our home bar and with our favorites. Black Label 1.75 liter for $51. Makers Mark 1.75. $38 (christmas sale) Case of Blue Moon (24 bottles) $14!! A nice wine selection too.

Yay Costco. They aren't for everyone and they don't have everything either but we LOVE them.

This post was for you DBQ.

I thought of you when I was there.

DBQ, We try to get out under $200. CNBC did a fascinating piece on the founder and retiring CEO of Costco. Their #1 seller every year is TP. Their goal is to get you to buy @ least one item you had no plan on buying in your basket. They have a superb wine and liquor dept. Their meat is all prime. Anything you buy there is quality.

Some things are a very good value, if you have the room to store the bulk items. Just for example: pickles

Also, the only place we can find Tri-Tip steaks is Costco. They are very tender and tasty and they take-up marinade very well.

dbp, Tri-tips are great! For most of America it's a new, flavorful, cheap cut. However, for Bostonians who eat steak tips on Wed. @ great restaurants on Route 1, it's been a staple for decades. It's like fried fish for Cheeseheads on Friday. Speaking of Boston..where's Tim?

Nick - You didn't hear about the explosion at the piccolo factory? Terrible tragedy. Splinters everywhere.

LOL Thanks Trooper. :-)

Good value is the name of the game at Costco. We love their SF Bay Coffee beans. I have four bags in the pump house.

You can't have enough TP on hand ...IMHO.

My stepfather spend summers in Wisconsin working in a pickle factory. Periodically they'd shift the labels used, to produce different brands of pickles.

Thus: All pickles are the same.

ndspinelli, now that you mention it, we haven't heard from Tim in a while--hopefully everything is fine with him & family.

The suburbs NW of Boston we live in are fairly close to each other, but I have only ever seen him here and in that other place.

Our closest Costco is actually in NH. Which turns out to be very nice since there is no sales tax up there. It is a great place to pick-up a case of beer as well: No bottle deposit and grocery stores in MA do not carry any alcoholic beverages. So if you have to make a special trip the the "packy" might as well go to Costco and get some TP as well.

Tim takes a break from blogging now and then and I think he had too much to do over the holiday.
