I didn't know you last Halloween..thanks, cute as a button. We have our annual Halloween party. When my kids were little it was a big party w/ hot dogs, cookies, popcorn, hot chocolate[fortified w/ schnapps for parents], beer and bobbing for apples. I remembered loving Halloween but when it was over it was so abrupt. So, our garage was the last stop. Kids would come and eat, play and talk about the cheapskates and people who were generous. Parents would have a dog, beer, and maybe a shot. Now we have a fire out front w/ hot chocolate, cupcakes, Twinkies and candy..beer and booze for the parents. This is a big night for kids, and I unabashedly love kids.

The bent antennae and woebegone face brought a smile. Almost as good as TY as Elvis. Plus, Ndspinelli's description of his celebration sounded so good to MamaM she lit a firelog and some candles to add to the ambiance while waiting for the bell to ring.

Living in a rural area where it is dark dark dark and a long way from house to house down long (did I mention dark) unpaved roads or driveways.....we never ever have trick or treaters.

We used to go to the local VFW, Volunteer Fire Dept's haunted fire hall or Lion's Hall for their annual party for the community. It was great fun. All the kids and most of the grown ups dressed in costumes. Games, prizes, cookie decorating contests, dancing. The kids loved it and so did the adults.

When the kids got older we had get togethers like ndspinielli says. Or the teens would go to a friends house for a party. We adults would just hope that all of our previous parenting would have taken root and there would be no shenanigans. Rarely would anything untoward happen.

I miss those days.

Ann is linking Andrew Sullivan in having a small dog in a cardboard tank (is it cruel). I do not know. I do know it is cruel to provide a link to Andrew Sullvian's site.

The rock lobster kid is cute.

Tonight, our youngest is at just such a party as DBQ describes. We miss Trick-or-Treating past, and I'm sure we'll miss these days, too. It all happens so quickly.

Our oldest is sitting in the den alone, playing online games. His party was cancelled because the power is out at the house where it was to be held. The Mom of that house in fact came over today to shower, as they have no hot water w/o electricity. We were in the same boat for a day and a half, but our friends (who have the default teen party house among our kids) look to have no power for 2-3 more days.

This storm was really a disaster in the Northeast. Much worse than Irene. So, Halloween has been cancelled in a lot of places. There are fallen trees and limbs everywhere, and still some wires here and there.

It's cozy inside, but REALLY scary out. Everybody's waiting until Friday.

Pet adoration is a form of child envy. I predict that in 5 years or less Sullivan will be moaning about being an evolutionary dead ender (not having offspring) and will be actively seeking a willing, surrogate womb.

We already know that he's obsessed with wombs.

chickenlittle, that is an obscene idea.

OK, I should have said "extreme pet adoration."

Better?

Andrew who?

And of course it will be turkey basted, if that helps assuage the obscenity.

I meant "turkey baster'd"

Chickelit: I left a longish comment on your blog about Der Erlkönig. I'm most familiar with it from the Schubert setting.

Thanks, Tim. I saw it!

We had a great Halloween party at the house with the kids. It was a lot of fun.

Our granddaughter is still a preteen so it was fun to have her friends over.

When they become teenagers it might be a whole different story.

Chickenlittle I tried to comment on your blog but it said I was not allowed.

Also that my blog was suspended.

I guess it was because my titles might mess up your blog role with the errr....risque titles and such.

I hope I did not offend you in some way. If I did I am sorry.

I reset my "who can comment" because fuckface was commenting. Try it now if you wish.

Thanks buddy. I like to stop by and drop comments on your blog because you are so generous with you comments here.

I hope I have managed to discourage fuckface with a different technique and that other annoying commenters from the evil blogger lady do not find their way here.

Fuckface came back last night after I opened the window for anonymous comments.

I'm keeping them and his emails to myself for the time being until I publish them.
