I had a Dream....but now it is dead

I had Dream on my team once.

Dean the Dream Memminger who played on the Knicks championship team as a backup to Walt Frazier and Earl the Pearl Monroe.

He died in a cheap hotel from a cocaine overdose which was a better end then we all thought he would have in the long run. A couple of years ago he set himself on fire smoking crack in a flop house.

This was a guy was a college star. When he walked into the Garden everybody took notice. He was a star in the pros. He was a coach. He threw it all away. For crack.

What a waste.

I'm reminded of Lemmy Kilmister's advice to his son. "Son," he said, "never use cocaine. Use amphetamines instead - they're much better for you!"

I met Clyde "The Glide" Drexler once.

That has nothing to do with this story other than the rhyming nick name.

I wonder what Nick's nick name is.

This is very sad. The Dream helped Marquette and Al McGuire win the NCAA tournament in the early 70's.

Sixty, I was called "The Bear" in high school. When my old man was alive I was "Little Nick" even though I was much bigger than my old man. I was also known as "Nicky" to help differentiate.

"Butterbean" Bob Love. Ironically, Butterbean was a stutterer so I doubt he could say it.

Nick "The Quick" Van Exel

70s Knicks - overrated. 2 good guards, but a couple of slow, feet nailed to floor white forwards. I'll take the Celtics:

JoJo White, Hondo, Cowens, Paul Silas, Chaney.

Didn't Houston have Unseld AND Hayes at one point?

No that's a great Frontline.

But they couldn't play together rc.

Unseld was a great rebounder and the best outlet passer I ever saw. But Elvin Hayes was just a big time scoring machine. Bob McAdoo with a better rep.

You sure that's why? The way I heard the story, you were found wandering naked through the girls bathroom--cuz someone told you if you took your clothes off you'd be invisible.

Actually I wandered in there, thought it was the woods, so I took a shit.
