Those are some spicy meatballs!

Now this is what a meatball appetizer should look like. Three massive balls covered in a spicy sauce.

That's Italian!

They would not be so horrifying if they were made of lamb and pork.

They would also taste better.

No, it's been unseasonably muggy and I feel like cooking something outdoors instead of in the house. We live without A/C so hot weather makes me cranky.

You need Darcy, STAT!!!

There's a distinctive spice used in most meatballs (and breakfast sausage) that I really don't care for. I've been trying to identify it (as I recently had some good meatballs that didn't have it).

My mom suggested sage but I like sage. I'm thinking maybe cumin.

Nobody puts cumin in meatballs. At least Italian Meatballs. There should be garlic, parsley, parmesan cheese, egg and bread crumbs in the normal meatball.

Now my family comes from the Island of Ischia and they traditionally add raisins and pinnoli nuts. The first and last time I made that style for Lisa's family they lost their minds. So stick with the normal ingredients.

Fennel.

Trooper, I didn't know your people were from Ischia. Raisins are the Naples influence. My grandma was from Naples and she put raisins in everything..along w/ dates.

Nick!

I'll bet that's it!

Come on Nico, Troop's swarthy and lithe frame shows his Tyrrhenian background. There are people on ancient Pompeii murals who look just like him.

@Nick: Just check out the murals at Lupanar

Did you luck out with that one, El Pollo, or know it was there?

Sexual scene from a wall painting at the Lupanar; the woman wears the ancient equivalent of a bra

I was there not once but twice, MamaM. The images are fixed in my head.

His people had a sit down with the Ischial tuberosities.

LOL, and who knew your tool box was being stocked in preparation for such a moment as this, with the bra a perfect fit!

Chick, You are a man of the world, and a certified, "Good Guy!" That was an A plus link.

Nick, I know you're prurient in heart, so here's another link: link
