So we did our usual ordering off the menu for the appetizer. We just ask for a platter of interesting meat and cheeses with some figs and walnuts and peppers and what not. Especially the what not.
I was so fuckin' hungry I started filling my plate before we took the photo!
You will notice some soppressata salami, prosciutto, olives, provolone, goat cheese, mozzarella and peppers. Just right.

My grandmother loved figs and dates, particularly the latter. We took our kids to Palm Springs when they were little and took them to the National Date Festival. Date shakes are the big item.
I have been to the date ranch out in the desert. Mustang Ranch was the name. No, wait, that was another one. Maybe it was Shields in Indio.
Real good dates there. Nice and brown. Sweet, too.
Sixty, Indio is where the Date Festival is held.
Yeah, those things they grew on the trees were pretty good too.
