Sometimes it works out right.

Like when you can sit in the sun in a deck chair and have a beer. This was great. We did the cruise a little different this time. It was only the two of us so we were very laid back. We didn't have to rush to shore excursion or some activity or something. We got the last dinner reservation so we could take our time getting ready. We got to chill out and relax.

A beer and a chair and my kindle to read. I was pretty happy.

They're diggin' up my lawn! Right now. Right this minute. It's like a crazed mole was let loose. I'm cryin' inside and I haven't even gotten the bill yet. Catastrophe...you're finally here. I always knew....WHAAAA!!!

Hang in there dude.

Down here we do our own diggin' - it's a useful skill to be able to manage a shovel, just sayin'...

Three pipes. They've made three digs so far and haven't even found the perforated pipe-end where the liquid's supposed to exeunt. The saga continues!

Yep - it's not called a drain field for nothing, you know.

Bottom line? A three lateral leach-field has failed. Big big bucks. Hello rice & beans.

Sorry to hear that, ricpic. It is always just a matter of time when you operate your own sewage plant.

@ricpic: Are outhouses outlawed in your neighborhood?

My grandma had one at her house -- it was about 10 yards from her grinding stone. She told us to stay out of there, but we peed in there anyways. I remember the red tar shingles that covered it and how unusually soft the ground was around the outside of it.

I don't know the answer to that question Pollo. Would actually be a solution for 6 months of the year.

What I'm facing is the horrific add on costs if the Health Department gets involved. Probably shouldn't even be talking about this on the net. Anyway, if the guy comes out here, pulls out the old pipes, puts in new pipes and covers it up the hit will be bearable. But if he says no way, I have to contact the state, well then the cost can spiral and will spiral through the roof. We shall see.

ricpic - when I bought the house I live in now, two and a half years ago, the septic tank inspector guy was positive that the tank, being over 60 years old, had collapsed by now and that I would need to get the health department and other government agencies involved in rectifying the situation.

He was wrong, it was fine, the system checked out and the costs were minimal.

I hope your story has as happy an ending as mine did. No schist. Don't want you to lose the chert off your back. No sedimental journey for you.

So upstate NY soil doesn't drain. On the plus side I'm sitting atop the Marcellus shale and could be a richy rich if fracking wasn't blocked by the insane environmental downstate weinies. Must first kill 5 or 6 million downstate Democrat voters. Difficult. But doable. Whatta the Japs say? Climb Mount Fujiyama one step at a time. Must take step one tomorrow.

When they all come together with the best and the worst of their shovels, schist and drain fields like they do in this thread, a strange composite of the most interesting man forms, enough to make me laugh.

No killing, ricpic, I understand that some people just need killin', but you don't have enough ammo.

Give me a call.

Kidding!!!

As for the picture, Troopski reminds me of the Skipper, and since I already used the words "little buddy", I will say that he appears to be looking for Gilligan. Lord knows he will never find his little buddy.

I don't always go on cruises, but when I do I pay extra to keep the kids away from me.
