Sometimes you don't know what is respectful or not!

It is a pretty slow day in the store as it is about 100 degrees today in the last blast of summer. What we do when that happens is go on social media and put up a bunch of tweets and facebook postings and instagrams to drum up business on-line. But we didn't feel it would be respectful to do that today.

I mean who wants to have a blow out 911 day sale? Just not prudent.

It's like the storyline in one of my favorite shows that just came back "Sons of Anarchy." They have all the usual murders and beat downs including anal rape of a tongue-less biker and drowning an Iranian in a bathtub full of piss. But all through the show they have the kid in the Catholic school uniform walking around and just looking glum. He cuts school but sits on a park bench and watches the Motorcycle club ride by. He has a glass of milk at a bakery while they are inside planning a hit. He just seems to wander aimlessly until the end of the episode. Then he puts down his journal that he had been writing in which has all this crazy devil stuff in it. He takes off his blazer and folds it neatly. Then he take out a machine gun and goes in and shoots up the school. It was one of the guns the club had been smuggling but that is not the point. Should they really be using the images of a school massacre in an entertainment program like that? It seems over the top and just not right in some way. I mean I realize that it is supposed to be gritty and over the top but I think Sutter went overboard here. It just didn't feel right.

Just as it doesn't feel right to try to do an over the top sales pitch on 911.

I saw one epi of that show - figured it was a bunch of leftist claptrap. Glad I let it go...

It isn't really. It is pretty violent and gritty. Not a leftish show in the least. At least not as far as I can see.

They actually have black people and Mexicans as criminals. Not just white people. Just sayn'

Yep, but they can't resist the anti-mackerel-snapper blasts, apparently.

Probably don't like snake handlers, either.

We watched a couple of episodes and felt that there was just too much tokenism in it. Inappropriate (meaning not at all similar to real life) insertion of blacks and other 'ethnics' into a motorcycle gang type of situation. Not gonna happen in most real life situations. But still crammed into our faces so we can be diverse.

Not saying that blacks and mexicans aren't criminals (lol that is rich) but that they just didn't really hang out with Sonny Barger, or were members of a certain little club that my sister-in-law's husband(s) were members of.

I lived in a neighborhood in SC that had some of Sonny's associates living there. Truly scary individuals.

But there was no trouble there, either. Kind of like an Italian 'hood in Brooklyn.

There are in fact black and Mexican motorcycle gangs. The fact that they got chummy is bullshit.

But then I don't think everyone in Kentucky is a toothless goober criminal like in Justified but I still enjoy it.

You mean California. Justified is filmed right outside where E. P. lives and all the actors are Hollywood union types.

As a descendent of Kentuckians, I take offense at that continued slander of our fine moonshine-swillin', meth-snortin', Oxy-dealin' citizens.

Whose Sutter? That name is painfully close to mine. Just sayin'. Only mine ends in a vowel. That's right, it's not something only Wops own, vowel ending names. And then there are Wops named Dolan. Now that's, uh...inappropriate .

Yep. Verisimilitude. I haven't watched the latest season of Justified so I can't say. But I didn't detect any political agenda in the first couple of seasons.

My hubby's little sister was married to a member when they lived in the Bay Area. When he died of a heart attack at a really young age, mid 30's, they had a full presentation funeral for him at the little town in Oregon that really amazed and entertained the people. Jimmy was one of the second in command at the time. Hundreds of bikers showed up to showed their respect. The old ladies in the town loved the guys and they were no trouble at all to anyone. One lady said it was like a really exciting circus :-) Sister in law shortly after married one of the other guys who was a good friend of her husband (over 15 years now) and they are no longer officially affiliated, have children and steady jobs... but still do maintain some contact. If we were ever to need anything, I would count 100% on her husband to back us up......and would ask no questions either.

SoA lost me with the whole Northern Ireland season. It just wasn't very good. Although I laughed when Jax quipped "You say it like it is a bad thing?" when he just dodged stuppin his half sister (he did not know she was his sister).

SoA fucked up. They should have had the opening season show about a Mexican kid in Juarez who gets an automatic rifle from Fast & Furious gunwalking who then shoots up a taqueria.

I like Banshee better than SoA. But granted Banshee only had one season and I liked SoA just fine its first couple of seasons.

Then you have to watch "The Bridge."

FX just has the best shows.

Kurt Sutter is the producer, writer and show runner.

He also plays the biker Otto in the show.

This episode he gets fucked up the ass in solitary by a guard. After he had already bitten off his own tongue.

Somehow if it was me I wouldn't pick out that role for myself.

You can never understand Hollywood people.

I think Sons is past it's expiration date. But I have been with it this long so I will keep going.

Troop, Hollywood people fall all over themselves to be okay with same sex anal penetration to show they care about the gay moguls that make movies, vote on awards, and give them high paying roles.

Plus I think a lot of them like it.

Trooper York said...

I mean that's find all but I think Sutter is a total masochist. I mean he is married to Katey Segal who plays Gemma and makes sure to humiliate her all the time. The scene where she was raped in season two was pretty graphic. Who the hell would put their wife in that position?

Trooper York said...

Well except for Meade of course.

I would watch SoA if I had some confidence that the series would end with Ron Perlman turning into Hellboy.

Or at least The Beast.
