There's something about Mary....

But he seems to be ok.

I have heard from Palladian and he is doing much better. Several people have stepped up and he can see his way clear now until he gets back on his feet in the fall.

Now we can go back to making fun of the fucking bastard with a clear conscience.

Two really good posts over there at Freeman's blog.

One is pimping Mrs. Spinelli's book, which will be a real test of Lawnboy's rule of engagement.

Much of the original blowup at Lem's about Meade and Palladian, including Meade's totally disgusting back stabbing attack has been deleted by Meade and Lem. Nobody was proud of that episode, but man it was an eye opener about the management of TOP.

I just tried to register at Insty, 'cause that could be interesting. But it's a PJ Media site, which I'm already registered for.

Not that I can remember my password. Nor that the site's refresher actually reaches my email.

I gotta hope that's me! I've seen other DBQs, but I am the only Bitmaelstrom, dammit!

As much fun as it was in the beginning at Lem's, it is one giant snooze fest right now. I like Chip Ahoy....in small doses. It seems like it is Chip, Freeman and the Meade and Inga show.

I'm not interested.

Darcy said...

I think that's exactly what Meade wants, DBQ. Which is part of why I want to support the blog.

But if they keep coddling Meade, I'm out.

bagoh20 said...

That's not true DBQ, there is a lot of Crack Emcee, some new unlurked, lots of posts (too many in my opinion), and of course me, and I'm sober till Friday.

And to Darcy, Meade heard his dog whistle today and started in on RHHardin, who of course, didn't engage him. Nothing much and it was over quick.

Michael Haz said...

Lem would be wise to relocate his blog to WordPress, which allows blocking individual commenters.

Yes, you can just paypal directly (from paypal, not his website). The email address on the "contact" info works.

bagoh20 said...

And Inga's only comment since yesterday morning was a single "BOO!!!"

It's getting away from the Althouse obsession pretty well now. It is it's own place now. Like it or not, the thing is an experiment in commenter driven content. It will succeed or not based on the commenters.

yashu said...

On rhhardin?

Again, I find that astonishing. He's going after what seemed to be A's very favorite commenters. Maybe because their presence at CH constitutes treason?

What next, attacks on Chip Ahoy?

I don't think there's anything like a vote over there. It's still largely Lem in charge. (I foresee problems with that arrangement, if that is the set-up.)

And I wouldn't be too hard on Lem about what is meant by this or that. It's still very much a seat-of-the-pants operation, and he and they are still figuring things out. Hell, the blog is only 16 days old!

...

As for what's going on with lawnboy and the reception he gets over at CH, I think that has more to do with a combination of perceptions built up over time (emotional inertia) and the fact that Lem and Freeman are basically decent people, and they just might not get how toxic lawnboy has become.

Those of us who have had the "privilege" of being around batshit crazy before are going to perceive things differently. And as it is, I didn't really understand just how bad it is until I saw the Palladian shit last night. (I'd only been checking in sporadically since last Friday.) Mostly I had been assuming lawnboy had his share of butthurt (as do so many) and was just being a bit of a jerk, so I was ignoring him. So it wasn't until I saw everyone alluding to a big blow up with P that I knew anything really bad had happened.

I just wouldn't be that hard on Lem or even Freeman over this issue. At least not yet.

I think it gets worse. I'm pretty damned sure now that he fed my name to a certain person, which then led to what happened to me yesterday. It was awfully convenient when I emailed him from my gmail address under nothing but good intentions at the time to respond to TOP's shutting down comments and having Meade become the comments monitor and I sent in my 2 cents. After that, and I didn't realize it, he had my name. Soon after, I am now in this position by you know who and the only way she could have gotten it was from him since I don't email any of you or anyone else.

I put two and two together last night and it all makes sense to me now. I'm beyond pissed at this point, but I gotta keep it cool.

It wasn't so much about trust. I don't even know the guy and I had zero issue with him. I just never thought that he would do something like that. Ruth Anne Adams said...

Evi,
I've got no beef with Reynolds. I was tweaking Meade. I was completely on-topic. Reynolds balked at my take and I backed off. I saw what Meade did the other night to Palladian. The horror. Pure evil. You can't un-see that.

You know how self-conscious Meade is about his lack of education...so I was poking at that scab. Reynolds, a law professor!, mocking a mere lawn boy.

It's a little sly, but I'm sure he'll get it.

Now Meade is on Lem's blog claiming that what he did to Palladian was okay - just a business matter, and since Palladian publicly offers his art there is no reason why an issue between vendor and purchaser cannot be publicly discussed.

@11:35 I think it will work out pretty well, Chickie.

Keep your fingers crossed but I have a good feeling that it will do fine.

It's like my new nightly ritual. As was TOP at times, but without the vitriol.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of regulars will respect it and tend well to it. You might end up having an agitator or fly in the ointment here or there, but the vast majority of well-established participants, their common history, the sprinkling of cordiality and respected intellectual diversity, and a relative disinterest in blog entries designed solely to provoke or agitate seem like fine ingredients for success.

Palladian: Supposedly not. This blog is private. But they've been remarkably up-to-date with doings on this blog at various times in the past. Some here think it was a mole, probably Titus, and not a Blogger issue. I think the best view of it is "reasonably secure."

It feels like a hell of a great refuge now and I think the strengthening status of the other place (certain unwarranted attacks notwithstanding - even though the immensely popular reactions and overwhelming support against said attacks speaks volumes) helps. Mole was exactly the word I wanted to use (are we on some unstoppable garden noun kick?) but that would be great if a mole in the past has been ejected since.

I sure hope so.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

BTW, although I said "the other place" I most certainly did not mean "TOP". Wow, that mistake made me feel stupid.

"TNOP"?

Troop: I'm pretty sure she never spoke to Larry (You know who... i.e. Yoko) or she would have told me. Same with Larry's wife.

That said, perhaps they've gotten desperate enough to contact her since. But I doubt even that. Some of us they just damn well hated more than even the others, I'm pretty sure of that.

What did you go and do now? (Kidding). I'll try to take a look.

Palladian said...

Stand behind anything you write here, Palladian, as is your right, and so shall we

Oh I don't really plan to say anything much about them. But I don't want to ever discuss them or mention them in a public place again, and I just wondered how public/private it is in here.

I like to be open and honest, and I put a good bit of private information out in public, but I'm also intensely private in a lot of ways and it really, really upset me to be violated by Laurence Meade in public like that, especially his reference to what I owed to my previous landlord, like he had a dossier on my private life. It really scares me, and I'm already especially fragile lately.

Trooper York said...

Well now I am getting into it with chief enabler Freeman Hunt so this should be fun.

Trooper York said...

Oh and by the way ....Palladian don't be such a faggot. We have your back stupid.

Trooper York said...

I had a few drinks at dinner by way. Just so you know.

Trooper York said...

By a few drinks I mean six capirinas, three glasses of Chianti and a couple of pops of Limoncello.

Just sayn'

Palladian said...

TTBurnett, I want to apologize for any pain that I caused you and your family in the past. It wasn't my intention. I have an ... abrasive... style (ISO P20 grit, to be exact) and it sometimes gets the better of me. Some commenters deserve it, and some don't, and you didn't. It really touched me that, despite what I said in the past, you were still concerned about my situation. A humbling thing, and I just wanted to make amends.

Palladian said...

Oh and by the way ....Palladian don't be such a faggot.

A real man can be comfortably sensitive, you old mick.

Trooper York said...

That's limp dick mick to you pally.

Palladian said...

And about that picture on this post...

I shovel it in with a knife and fork!

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Dayumn. That's some nice tolerance of drink.

Freeman I don't get all that much in how she mediates things but then she's just one of nine. And bound to get ravenously equivocating in her mediation. Her exposure to blogworld is small but significant (if that 2008 video is any indication) so she's just being protective in any way she can while attempting to look uber-fair.

I don't know what's been deleted so far over the past few days but the long and the short of it is evil people's doings, including Larry Yoko's, are bound to limited at this point and ever more dwindling ever after.

Unless all those people who keep checking back await the day when comments return.

The other - NOT other - place ensures that there's no need for it, though.

Let it build itself. Don't worry about Freeman too much. Even if she sacrifices good judgment for the appearance of absolutist impartiality, she's no narcissist or Yoko Ono.

Things will be better from here on out. Trust fate. I'm not infallible but I've got a pretty good feeling about it.

Chip S. said...

Ritmo, the "N" in my formulation was for "New", not "Not".

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Why don't we just call it "TOOP"?

The other other place.

Trooper: Freeman must have had some mentoring from EBL or for whatever reason still just respects her way too much to worry about any boat rocking that involves Larry Yoko, even if it's entirely his fault. She's just like that sometimes. I'd make a political analogy but I'm trying to avoid that these days. The basic story is, she thinks she can satisfy all parties and is looking at the best incoming advice (from you) as interference. Of course, she can't please all the people and few people want her to but that won't stop her from trying, or at least from doing her damnedest to look like she's trying.

But then, her psychology was never as transparent to me as it was among some of the other former neighbors.

yashu said...

Biting my tongue over there.

Thank god for Trooper York's.

Palladian said...

Meade went back a day later and deleted his comments, so an archived copy will be required.

Meade did not delete those comments, Freeman Hunt did.

blake said...

I think it would be foolhardy to believe that they're not monitoring here.

The key thing, as noted, is that they can't post and ruin it.

Trooper York said...

Listen Ritmo I know Freeman types.

She is the teachers pet who looks down on the juvenile delinquents who are in the back of the class smoking cigarettes and looking at porno. Like me and Spinelli. All prim and proper and above reproach.

So I have to admit she rubs me the wrong way. I am trying to be restrained but capirinas don't lend themselves to restrain. Just sayn'

Chip S. said...

Ruth Anne says concisely what needed to be said at TP.

(Our other tries seem to have too many notes, Ritmo.)

TTBurnett said...

Thank you, Palladian. I appreciate that.

This situation has revealed a lot more than I ever thought possible about the character of people in our online lives. While it is partly play and fantasy, it affects real worlds. I've learned a huge amount from this, and I think there's more coming. But I do want to thank everyone here, at least, for standing up for what's right.

It's been at least an hour since I've turned into a pumpkin, so I've got to say goodnight.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Troops right. But I always liked Freeman. That said she doesn't have a lick of common sense when it comes to Meade and Ann.

But she saw what happened to Paladian. And it did bother her. She has not fully processed it yet.

Trooper York said...

As always Ruth Anne is right.

I am going to shut up now as Inga has made an appearance and who needs that shit.

Instead I will be posting Marco Polo photos.

Chip S. said...

Freeman Hunt would be well and truly shocked if she knew what really went on here.

I don't think she'd approve of dirty Betty Rubble at all.

Palladian said...

Ann Althouse emailed me after I cc'ed her in my email to Meade, requesting that he leave me alone and stop posting my personal information.

Apparently it's all my fault, and I deserved what her husband did to me.

Ugh. As much as I try to forget it, it still really hurts. But I have other things to worry about.

Trooper York said...

It would be a good thing if you said that publicly but I respect the fact that it might be too painful for you.

So remember who has your back you big homo you.

Chip S. said...

Wow.

Even after all this, I'd imagined that she was embarrassed by his behavior at TP. Now it's clear that she's as ill as he is.

Palladian said...

Freeman Hunt has been very kind to me, giving me leads on freelance jobs and checking on me several times after that L Meade incident.

She's a good person in my book.

Trooper York said...

By the way Big Brooklyn Style is being shown overseas and all these gay latin and Arab guys are signing up to our facebook page. I might send them over to you.

I think we are being televised in a Turkish prison.

blake said...

Palladian!

Good to see you! And even better to see you and Tim have made up.

That's why TY's is a community and Althouse isn't.

Trooper York said...

Hey I don't tell other people how to feel about other people. That's up to you. If you are my friend I will go to the wall for you. But if you are not I would not piss on you if you were on fire.

But I don't ask anybody else to sign on to that. Everyone's experience is different.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

I know Freeman types.

She is the teachers pet...

Well, as always your judgment is good and I can respect that analysis.

I should now proceed to delete my Rodney King-esque statements at the other other place.

If you so desire.

I guess if Freeman is a teacher's pet then there's no reason not to do so, as she's got her mission and don't need my stinking peanut gallerying anyway.

You're right again.

Palladian said...

Even after all this, I'd imagined that she was embarrassed by his behavior at TP. Now it's clear that she's as ill as he is.

You have no idea. She sent me a very, very troubling email today. After all my affection for her, all my defenses of her, all those years of reading and writing, private exchanges, even hanging out in person a number of times, she blamed it all on me, as if I used her and hurt her. It was all my fault. I'm a fraud, a back stabber, a loser, a whiner....

I don't think she has any idea how much she hurt me. As I wrote back to her, I want nothing to do with them, as thinking about it only causes me pain.

bagoh20 said...

Palladian I think most of us know what it's like to be stabbed in the back by someone we least expected it from. Someone who we trusted, opened up to and put our neck out with. I know I do. I've trusted a lot of people, often out of necessity, and hoped that if I treated them very well and decent that it would be near impossible for them to fuck me over. Sorry, it's just not true. People are either decent or they are not. You just have to protect yourself. It's too bad, but it's just a fact. The thing is, it makes the people who don't let you down even more amazing to have in your life.

Palladian said...

But I don't ask anybody else to sign on to that. Everyone's experience is different.

Oh, absolutely. Your mileage may vary.

Icepick said...

You don't think they would be evil enough to send Inga over here do you? That is some scary shit right there, but Meade has been acting unhinged.

Well, that's what you get for putting her panties on your Doberman. You really need to be more careful with whose panties you use.

blake said...

Troop could install some stuff to find out who's visiting, of course....

Chip S. said...

It's funny how sometimes other people see stuff that we totally miss.

When I first started hanging out at TOP about 2 yrs ago, my gf at the time took one glance at the site and told me AA was a horrible person. Like an idiot, I disagreed w/ her.

Now trying to find her ph no somewhere...

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Troop - I think the thing here (and I said as much over there that I can or at least probably should delete) is that you and I and maybe some others have a bit of I told you so-itis... You know what I mean? And I think Freeman just came as late as Palladian to understanding how unrestrained they could be. She's just trying to save herself some embarrassment, maybe? I don't think that's the worst thing. As long as you make her realize with canine, olfactory memory that this is entirely natural and predictable of them, then you've done your job.

And I think she knows it. If nothing else, the comments over there tonight, should they remain in perpetuity, sort of guarantee it.

My friendship is to you though so advise as you see fit what you want me to do with my comments over there and I'll proceed accordingly.

Things are going better than I think is obvious. A huge battle's already been won. It's tempting to further direct and divide spoils, but I think there will be enough plenty from here on out for anyone who wants a piece.

Palladian said...

Palladian I think most of us know what it's like to be stabbed in the back by someone we least expected it from. Someone who we trusted, opened up to and put our neck out with.

I know you're right. But, believe it or not, it's never happened to me before like this. After many years of living in New York and dealing with some of the most emotionally and morally degraded people on earth (the New York art world), I have never been betrayed and hurt by anyone as badly as Althouse and her husband have hurt me. Maybe it's because I'm a bit younger than some of you, I don't know.

Sorry, it's just not true. People are either decent or they are not. You just have to protect yourself. It's too bad, but it's just a fact.

I know. It's very hard for me. As an "autism spectrum" person, I have a very difficult time "reading" people. I trust people. I know I'm very smart, and I should be able to figure things out, but I'm also very naive about people and very bad at shielding myself from poisonous people. I want to believe that God is in everyone, that some deep and vital current of God's goodness is in every person and can be accessed, but I guess that's not the case.

Icepick said...

Meade signed off of further hindrance of Lem's blog. The blog is on tenuous ground and completely depends on the good will and intent of participants.

Hmmm, that's not how I read it.

blake said...

What I noted early on was that, unlike most blogs, Althouse was not a community, it was a show. So, a lot of the cues for a community were missing.

If you look at Ace of Spades HQ, for example, there are regular references to people in the community, front-paged. Weekly features, even.

Reynolds even does this, and he doesn't even have commenters (or didn't used to).

bagoh20 said...

" God's goodness is in every person and can be accessed, but I guess that's not the case."

It's all in the timing. If you get there before God, well it's always better to be fashionably late.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Hmmm, that's not how I read it.

Me neither, Icepick. Take it from someone who's seen enough blog conflicts in life.

There's just nothing more they can do. The entire country packed and moved and left the kind and queen alone in old real estate to stew and bitch and moan. What more can they do? Maybe to those more used to playing "nice" there is a bit of an uneasy feeling. I can understand that. Freedom is like that.

Of course, I don't put it past the king and queen to try something pathologically devious in retaliation, but doesn't what happened two nights ago already count?

If nothing else, narcissists guard their reputation intensely. Meade's attack was the nail in the coffin to the blow that was her subjects' repopulation elsewhere.

Leave Althouse to Cedarford. He's like the only chump that didn't accompany the move. But xenophobes are like that. Heh. It'll be Meade and Ann and C-Fudd, sitting around a fire, roasting marshmallows, bemoaning their lost fortunes and the return of better days.

While a few dozens or more keep looking forward to a better future.

Don't worry, Chickie. It's all in the clear from here.

Maybe it's an NPP/ borderline combo.

I think that's entirely plausible. Meade seems to relish a certain kind of ambiguity. Psychological ambiguity.

I psychologize, because (stupid naive me) I still find it hard to accept that people can just be so shitty. Just plain shitty.

Some people just lack what normal people have. You don't have to see it through a psychological lens, but it's there and explains it just as well, either way.

Look at it this way: A psychological defect can be no less gruesome than a physical amputation. Remember the Afghani girl missing a nose from the acid attack to her face? Well, certain psychological attributes, when missing, can look no less grotesque.

Trooper York said...

Look Palladian don't sweat it that you didn't see them for what they are.

I remember the night you and me and Althouse had drinks at that little joint on Henry St. next to Noodle Pudding. She was a drunken mess then and all she wanted to do was guess which guy was Titus in the bar and wanted to know if she should ban him. When somebody does that then I wonder what makes me think she won't do the same thing to me when I am not around.

But then the tell tale thing happened. When the check came she did not pull her weight. You and I laid the wood so to speak. I remember shit like that. If MichaelH or chickie or Bags or Ritmo or Icepick or Ruth Anne or DBQ or Darcy or anybody else who posts here were there that would not have happened. So she turned to shit in my eyes then.

It just took other people longer to catch on.
