Happy 4th to all. A bit of rain on the parade. This is a tough day for some vets w/ PTSD and dogs who are gun shy. I know 2 vets who have a tough time w/ the fireworks. And they tell me there are more vets than you would ever know, going back to WW2, who suffer in silence, being true patriots. Our Springer Spaniel will spend a lot of the weekend in here "panic room," my windowless basement office. I love fireworks and am not suggesting anything but a bit of empathy for men and dogs who have a real tough time w/ them.
I live 5 miles outside Ithaca so the fireworks, out here, are like Big Bertha as heard in Paris (little Great War reference there). But I'd hate to be trapped in the town tonight.
It's pouring down rain here. Has been the past couple of days. The fireworks have been rescheduled for Saturday, but the weather isn't looking very promising for that.
Anyhow, dropped off a bank deposit this morning. On the way, there were a couple of fire trucks by the intersection where I turn for the bank. I thought it was odd, but went on my way. When I turned into the bank, I can see through to the street running the other direction. There was a guy on a horse riding in the torrential rain. Again, I thought it was odd, but that's our little town, so I shrugged it off.
Behind the horse, was a fire truck with its lights flashing. Duh. Fourth of July parade. There were a few people lining the street watching.
Happy day-after-the-fourth. Still feels a bit like that holiday, doesn't it? I mean, even if you're at work, there's a bit of post-holiday lightness in the air.
Independence Day does that. It's the best secular holiday in America, by far. Plus, it's already Friday, so the party re-kindles tonight, probably with leftover fireworks and the remains of the holiday liquor and beer trove.
Mid-summer is a good time to stand back and look at how the year is going. We're all here, we're all healthy, we're all reasonably content. We can see from afar that other people's shit is falling apart, think a few consoling thoughts, and then just watch it happen. We can't fix what others have done by their own free will. There is peace in letting go.
Trooper, the Evil Spawn ran the Brewers for sis years years, until the fans revolted by simply not buying tickets. The team was then sold to the current owner, who is a decent guy, except he can't figure out how to buy pitchers.
She now lives in Arizona and runs a business that "sells women’s clothing through trunk shows, does other business consulting, is involved in community and philanthropic work (much of it around women’s issues), and enjoys being home for her twelve-year-old daughter."
Haz, You know Attanasio grew up a Yankee fan? He's been VERY low profile this year. I've only seen him in the stands once. I would look for a major shakeup, new GM and manager.
Nick, I agree. Doug Melvin should have been broomed out last season, but for some reason (contract, maybe) Atanasio didn't pull the trigger. Maybe hovering at 19 games out of first place will be the last straw. I keep hearing about what strong minor league players the Brewers have under contract, but none of them are pitchers, apparently. And the Ryan Braun thing - an owie on his thumb - is nonsense.
The Brewers aren't even good time fillers until the Packers pre-season begins.
But Haz, I'm sorry, I can't get into preseason football. I am more a baseball fan, but never got into preseason unless I go to a venue in Fla. or Az. When I last went in the early 90's[Braves and Expos in Palm Beach] it was still very informal and not really commercial. That's all changed so I really have no desire to go out of my way to even see a preseason game.
I hate Sarah Jessica Parker, Robin Williams, Tim Robbins, Susan Saradon, the BJ Hunnicut guy, brussel sprouts, the Boston Red Sox, commies and well, lawyers.

That's the spirit that birthed America.

It's a great day to be alive, as always.
I know Michael. It is a great day to be alive.

In other words, living off the family money.

Haz, I've pretty much stopped watching them and only been to 3 games. Usually ~10 by this juncture.
