Spring is coming.......and a Man needs a Mexican
On our next to last foray into Trader Joe's we found these daffodils that were really cheap. They were half sprouted so we simply put them in the window box and they have started to sprout nicely. All of our annuals are going along great as well. I clipped and cleaned them and they are well on their way to sprouting and looking great this spring.
The issue is the gardeners. My mother-in-law had this Italian guy doing the garden for ten years. Last year he sold the business to his best worker this Mexican guy. We had problems with this guy all summer. You see he only had one key employee and the rest of the crew are just tacos he got from Home Depot. So they had no idea and would pull out flowers or trample growing sprouts. I had to stay outside and watch them like a hawk. Which defeats the purpose because they are just supposed to do the job without you knowing about it.
So before the season I tried to call him to make an appointment to go over what we wanted done. What needed to be trimmed and cleaned. Funny thing. There was no answer on his phone. Not on his office phone. Not on his cell phone.
Today a whole new crop of Mexicans showed up. They had the battered tools of that company but when I questioned the guy he said he had bought the company. I told him to forget it. I don't want sloppy thirds.
I investigated a new service but they are all pretty pricey. We basically did most of the cleaning and trimming ourselves last year. I think we are going to do that and just hire a local kid with a lawnmower like in "Leave it to Beaver" times. Fuck it. why not save money and enjoy more time in the garden. With Nature.

Snow days ....yeah right
So Comrade Bill De Blasio and Capo Andrew Cuomo decided to shut the city down because of bogus reports of a deadly snowstorm. The dick governor shut down the subway screwing working people who have to come home late at night. He screwed every busboy and dishwasher and restaurant worker and bar back who doesn't get paid if he doesn't work and didn't have a way to get home to the apartment in Queens he shares with 50 other Mexicans.
It never used to be like this. The subway always ran during snow storms. In fact it ran now because the trains have to run to keep the tracks viable. They just kept the people off the trains including the homeless people who could shelter on the train or in the stations. Of course De Blasio and Cuomo don't give a shit about working people or homeless people. They just pretend to care. Fens law.
We closed the store early after snow proofing it. Nobody was shopping and we covered stuff with plastic in case a window broke and snow drifted in. Luckily nothing happened.
Tuesday is our normal off day anyway so we decided to stock up with some stuff in case the storm was bad even though we thought it would be a bust. We needed the bread and milk ya know:
Not that we needed them. I mean I did buy eggs but I only got wraps and pita bread.m. I got the almond milk. I did load up with fresh veggies. You always have to worry about scurvy. I went to Gourmet Fresh to talk to Juan Carlos our friend who handles the produce department.
We have onions we are good. Along with the lemons in the basket and the strawberries and lettuce and all of the rest of the shit I eat these days instead of burgers and fries.
We muddled through once again.

Call the Mexican
So yesterday was supposed to be our day off. The one day off we get because we went to a six day a week schedule. We were going to laze around. Have a nice breakfast. Then a wonderful lunch. Watch some TV. Continue binge watching "Call the Midwife" on Netflicks. But it didn't work out that way.
We ended up having to "Call the Mexican."
I have been taking a blood thinner and I have to be careful about getting cuts and scrapes. Every little one could be serious. I had one on my hand that bled pretty good for a while. I recently developed a scab on lower left leg that I had on idea how I got or where I got it from. It was just your normal run of the mill scab. So I went to take a nice hot shower. Not a good thing because it brings all your veins to the surface. I sat on the couch and I must have hit it on the Ottoman. It broke the scab. Blood starting shooting out across the room like I was a garden hose. You had to see it to believe it. On the floor. The fancy upstairs rugs. The Ottoman and the couch. I was in a lot of trouble.
Mainly because I made a big mess.
You see this had happened to me before a couple of years ago. One of my varicose veins burst and I had to call the EMT's. So this had happened before. But with the blood thinners it potentially could have been much worse. I put direct pressure on it and Lisa called 911. She was freaking out as usual but that is to be expected. The guys came in and were very competent. They checked the wound and it had stopped bleeding. They tied me up and I was good to go. Except for the cleanup.
It was time to "Call the Mexican."
