That's the way I like it uh-huh
So we got all gussied up for the big gala. I had to wear new black suit and new tie and new shoes and new gay pocket thingy. We had our car service guy Hassan take a photo outside our house before we left to go to the event.
The wife wore an Anna Lucia dress in a sparkly black fabric that she had made special. And the freakin' shoes she busted my stones about the day before. You see she had ordered them on my Amazon account since I have one and she doesn't. But she miss wrote the credit card and the email they sent somehow went to my Spam account. She freaked out and we had to call and pay extra to have them overnight them to us. But it all worked out and we got everything in time.
They had a DJ to spin some records after the Sugar Hill Gang finished their performance. In honor of Donna Summer he spinned a bunch of Disco and the wife and I took to the dance floor and danced the hustle to the amazement of they youngun's. We were spinning and twirling and going crazy and created our own little spot on the dance floor. Everybody got up and danced to some old time disco.
We filmed a segment for WPIX Channel 11 today that will air closer to the premiere of "Big Brooklyn Style." They have this giant mobile studio which is really just a big bus that was parked outside the store. The TLC publicity girl was there for the interview. They only wanted Lisa because she was doing some fashion Do's and Don'ts. I think that is how it is gonna work 99% of the time. I will not be on camera because they want to talk to Lisa. She is the "Dress Boss." But there are other reasons too.
One of the guys who drove the bus was listening to us talk about the gala and how we had danced to the disco hits of the 1970's. He is my age and of course he had to say "Disco sucks I only listen to rock and roll." I go "Hey everybody loves rock and roll but disco will get you laid." The publicity lady burst out laughing and said "I see why they had to cut a lot of your lines."
Love to love you baby!
Funny there wasn't any Packer's stuff...I wonder why?
So there wasn't much cool stuff to bid on at the silent auction this year. Except for sports related stuff.
The Cancer society has a connection with a memorabilia guy who works all the fundraisers. He puts out a piece and sets a minimum price where he makes money and the charity makes some dough. Of course the higher the bidding the more the charity makes.
What was funny was that almost all of the pieces were either the Yankees or the Football Giants. There was one Jackie Robinson thing and one Met's piece and one Knick's item and all the other fifty things were Yankees or Giants.
I bid on a couple of pieces. I lost out on the Larry Johnson autographed basketball which was kind of unique because it was also autographed by all of the sixteen children he had with sixteen different mothers. They know their audience.
I lost on the Eli Manning autographed football used in the Super Bowl that went for a couple of grand. My bid was damn good but not that good.
I also lost on a huge framed photo of the core four Yankees of Jeter, Posada, Pettite and Mariano. I was sure I would get that one but somebody beat me out.
The one piece I did get had photos of the two great catches in the last two Giant Superbowl wins. The David Tyree catch and the Mario Manningham catch of this last one. It also has game tickets attached for the Superbowl. Funny the face value is around $900. Holy smokes.
It is going on the wall in Jim's corner in the back room where the husbands hang out while the wife shops. Along with the photo of Frank and Dean having a cocktail that I got last year. I plan to pick something up every year to decorate the walls.
When Stacy saw me carrying it back to the table she said "Oh what did you get Jim?" I said "I got this great Giant's Superbowl photo montage. Did I tell you lately that the Giants won the Super Bowl?" She said "Not more than once a day Jim. Not more than once I day."

Moles
Youse guys had a big discussion about moles last night while I was out. I made a quick comment that I thought there might be a mole here at Trooper York. I want to be clear that it is not any of the people who post comments here all the time. But there are several people who requested access who never ever post a comment. Which is fine. Just reading is perfectly acceptable. I didn't do a background check on who came in or who didn't.
There was some back and forth about it especially with MamaM. As I had said before MamaM has emailed me privately and I am sure that she is who she says she is. I know that sometimes people get rubbed the wrong way when someone has a little bit of a prickly personality. But we love prickly personalities here. We even love to have pricks comment. (That's why ndspinelli is so popular here.)
Anyhoo I was at the American Cancer Society gala last night and subject of moles came up a the table. A girl who was a survivor of cancer only found out she had it by checking out a mole that she had. By getting it checked out she ended up saving her life.
That is the kind of mole you have to worry about. Life is too short to worry about another type. The rest of it is all nonsense.
Cancer and the survivors of it give you some perspective.
The Pink and Black Tie Gala was a lot of fun
We went to Pink and Black Tie Gala last night and it was a lot fun. We sat at Stacy's table and got to bid on a lot of great stuff in the silent auctions (more about that later).
They had several awards and presentations to various doctors who do great work in working for a cure and others who are treatment specialists. Most of Brooklyn was there. Well the movers and shakers of Brooklyn who want to make an appearance and show the flag.
I met the lady who is the director of the American Cancer Society's Brooklyn chapter and told her that if there was anything we could do that we would be there. Our small celebrity can be used by them in any way that would leverage help for the Society. I want to use some women who had cancer next season and will reach out to them to get some prospects. Cancer victims often have a treatment regime that leads to a big weight gain due to steroids or chemo or whatever. So they would be great candidates for the show to help other people who are in the same circumstances.
Anything we can do to give back we will do because we are truly blessed.

Off to the Pink and Black Tie Ball.
We are off to the Pink and Black Tie Gala at Steiner studios which benefits the American Cancer Society. Stacy is the chairwoman and we are sitting at her table like we did last year.
Hey I had to buy a new suit and one of those gay hankies for my pocket. So we have to have fun.

The ducks are happy!
Last year I bid and won on a bucket of port. Six bottles of premium port in different flavors. They think I am going to do the same thing this year.
The little bastards got drunk out of their faces.
And when I complained?
They told me to put it on their bill.

The dick was happy too!

Hey I liked the port wine basket too!
What's crazy about a charity auction is the value of the prizes. They were all donated and sold for the higgest bid. This bucket of port was worth about $500 but my bid was only $110. Luckily I donated more to cover it but still what a bargin.
Now I will keep them in the back of the store to break out with cheese and grapes and bread when the husbands are waiting in the back room while the wives shop.
I just have to keep it away from the ducks. Those little drunken bastards.
The Ratpack is Back!

So when I walk into the memorablia section, the first thing I see is one of my favorite photo's of Frank and Dean mounted on a beatiful frame. It has the inscription:
"I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning that is the best they are going to feel all day."
Words to live by.
Needless to say I won the bid.
A great night for a good cause!

Last night we went to the Pink & Black Tie Gala for the American Cancer Society. Our friend Stacy invited us to sit at her table and we had a wonderful time. We are not all that experianced at attending fancy charity benefits so we were like a couple of wide-eyed kids
They had a cocktail party to start on the terrace at the Steiner Studious where the event was held. In then cocktail party area they had a bunch of donated items with little clipboards where you would sign up with you bids for the item. We bid on a couple of things and when we went to settle up the volunteer said "Oh we have a whole bunch of stuff." It seems we won almost every bid. Which was fine because it was great stuff and for a great cause. We have been to two wakes already this year for people who have died of cancer. So anything we can do to help is fine with me.
And we got some great stuff.
Hey we missed the whole blogger thingy!

We had a crazy day yesterday. We went to the Pink & Black Gala held for the American Cancer Society at the Steiner Studios in Fort Greene. Our friend Stacy London was the chairwoman and host and we were honored to attend and show our support for the cause.
We aren't much for big shot charity auctions so this was our first time. They had a really nice cocktail hour and everyone who is anyone in Brooklyn was there. In the cocktail area they displayed all this stuff for a silent auction. The way it works is you sign your name and you bid on each individual item and if you are the high bidder you win. Well we won a lot of stuff! Photos to follow.
All in all it was a wonderful night. And I had no idea that Blogger had gone crazy until I got home around midnight.
