It was a good weekend

Sorry for the lack of posts but I was celebrating what Lisa is calling my "Birthday Weekend." Not that I cared about it but she is setting the stage for her upcoming birthday which would call for some crazy festivities as it does every year.

This year at this time I was in hospital waiting for a pacemaker so I am very grateful that I have survived another year. I thank God and all of the good wishes and prayers that so many kind people sent to me.

The store was actually pretty busy this weekend and just in time because we really have to generate sales. Luckily we got some good Lee Lee's customers along with new lingerie people which has been pretty steady since we finally opened the back store. I finally got a board for outside for the back store and that has helped. So hopefully we are going forward on all cylinders.

Sorry I wasn't around.....

But I had something very important to do.

It was Lisa's birthday weekend!

My bride loves birthdays and we usually make a big thing out of her birthday. I have thrown huge parties with 100 people, gone on a cruise, went to top New York Restaurant or spent it with family and friends in a more intimate setting.

This year is tough because I am basicly out out of action. So on Saturday and Sunday some of our best friends came over to celebrate at the house by cooking a meal at our place. Getting it together while the wife was at the store. It was a lot of work and I didn't have much time to anything else.
My darling girl deserves the best because she kept me alive! And because she is the best wife a man could ever have. I am so lucky!

Happy Birthday Lisa!

It was a Happy Birthday!

It was the wife's birthday on Friday so went out but stayed local because of everything that was going on. We had a reservation at Incognito but they had no food or electricity so that wouldn't work. So I arranged for us to go across the street to Marco Polo. I had Monteleone's make up a cake that I brought over for us to have at the end of the meal.

When we got there they had reserved a table and they had decanted a nice bottle of wine. The waiters all said that was their gift to Lisa for her birthday. That was very nice.

We decided on a traditional Italian style meal.

With started with a pasta appetizer of fuzzilli and veal meatballs. Then a tasty Caesar Salad. Finally we had veal as the main course. We always order something off the menu so Lisa had a veal chop parmigiana. They took a beautiful veal chop on the bone and covered it with a tasty sauce and mozzarella. I had the veal Sorrentino which was also wonderful.

There were about five other birthdays in the house that night. And as each one went on a couple of waiters would bring out a piece of cheesecake with a sad little candle in it.

When it was Lisa's turn they brought out a whole big cake and every worker in the joint joined in to sing. It was pretty funny. I made sure everyone had a slice since I didn't want to carry it home and the wife is not supposed to eat it anyway. It was a very nice chocolate mousse.

So we were able to make it  a happy birthday after all.

We have so much to be grateful for that we have no complaints.

Hitting the Speed Limit

Yes today I am fifty five. Lot's of fun. Ha.

I am planning an old school celebration. I am making myself meatballs and ravioli. I ordered myself an ice cream cake at the bakery. Actually a gelato cake. Pistachio and Zuppa Englse. Great stuff.

I will take the day off and the wife and I will watch a movie. Maybe the "Avengers" which is finally on pay per view. Enjoy our dinner. And relax.

For the Roses

Red Rose Red Rose
Which is a sweet scent to the nose
So soft and smooth
It makes my heart move

Red Rose Red Rose
Which makes a good pose
That I like to hold

Red Rose Red Rose
Which the wind blows
As each day goes

Red Rose Red Rose
Which grows and grows
It's my favorite kind
That it sooths the mind

Red Rose Red Rose
That it helps sooth my soul

That takes the cake.

Wait a minute. I took the cake. I took it home. And I am still eating it. It is staying surprisingly fresh.

I love cannoli cream cake!

Leftover seafood risotto

Leftover seafood risotto looks so sad. Everybody wanted to take home the cute little potato croquet's but the seafood languished at the table like one of these babes that are trying to say they were hit on by Herman Cain.

Something fishy about if you know what I mean. Just sayn'

The party was a smashing success

The birthday party was a big success. We had about 30 people and took over the back room at Pane E Vino on Smith St. Our little elf cousin was in charge of the decorations and did a great job. We had red tablecloths with gold chargers and gold candleabrras with crystals that she spray painted gold to have the look that my wife loves.

The food was great. We started with shrimps and potato croquets and chicken skewers passed with the opening cocktail hour. Then we sat down for an arugla salad with shaved Reggiano cheese and cherry tomato. Then three appetizers served family style....a polenta cake smothered in a mushroom medly with truffle oil....gorganzola gnocchi....and pasta prima vera. Then they served the main course which was filet mignon, chicken with aspargus and sun dried tomato and seafood risoto. Everything was served family style so you could have as much or as little as you wanted of one thing or all three. Everyone ate to their hearts content.

Then the wife and her friends got on the dancefloor. She had worked all night to download a dance list that she had on an Ipod so it was an eighties dance night fever! Everyone got up and danced but those 50year old broads just wouldn't spot. Of course they were all drunk of their face which is great.

Then the cannoli cream cake came out which was made by the bakery across the street from the store. It was delicious. And the best part is that we only ate about half of it and I have been having it for breakfast every day this week! Whose better than me?

Happy birthday to my sweetie.

Of course this is her birthday month so the extraganze continues!

Welcome to Shark Week!

Well it is not actually Shark Week. It is birthday week. Every year at this time the wife celebrates Birthday week and your intrepid correspondent has to come up with new and novel and cool ways to celebrate the most important birthday since the one where those three wise guys showed up to celebrate. Let me tell you it is a challenge.

Anyhoo I decided we would do Broadway since she loves the theatre. Now I know that you can almost allways get great seats the dayo of the show if you just walk up to the box office. You see all of the cast and crew who work there get a certain number of seats that they control. So if they don't use them they release them the day of the performance. And if you go on an off day like a Tuesday there are always great seats. So we took a cab into the city and got two great aisle seats and we good to go. But we had two hours before the show and that's where I got in trouble. We were good to go but I didn't really want to go where we went but what are you gonna do?

We jumped in a cab and went over to Saks Fifth Avenue as a sort of busman's holiday. We wanted to check out Salon Z which is the most well known Plus size section in the city. You see Saks is really a main part of our competition. When somebody wants a fancy dress in plus they go to Saks first and if they are not happy they often come to check us out. And I can see why.

First of all the section is pitifully small. They only carried a few designers and their stuff was really old lady to the max. Which is fine but they really didn't have any variety. They had Maria Rinaldi and Lafayette 148 and a shitload of Eileen Fisher. We can beat their ass with no problem. Our new party dresses will knock their balls off. So to speak.

So after that I really got in trouble. We went to the fuckin shoe department. Guys don't let your girls got to the shoe department. Especially a fancy expensive shoe department. Most of the shoes there cost more than my car. Luckily we were time constrained and the wife only got one pair of Chanel shoes that cost about as much as a small countries GNP. Jeeeez.

Then we had to hustle to make the curtain which we did. The show was fun but let me tell you something. It was really gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But it was a lot different then the movie. And gayer than Titus, Palladian and Jason (the commenter) in a hot tub on Halloween. Just sayn. The gang stuff was kind of silly. And the dialouge. Lot's of daddio and cool man and buddy boy and fifties slang. It proably sounded a lot like pillow talk at the blogger ladies house. Some of it was in Spanish which was an interesting twist. All in all we enjoyed it a lot even though some of it is pretty silly.

One funny circumstance is that I spotted of the ushers who is a customer in the store. I waved and called her over but she had no idea who we were until she got right up to us. Then she started laughing. What's comical is that we run into a customer almost every place we go.

So once the show was over we went to our new favorite restuarant Bistecca Fiorentina the Tuscan steak house. The porterhouse was superb as usual and the fun part is that the guys brought out a tartuffo with a candle in it to sing Happy Birthday. The wife eats that up with a spoon. The singing. Not just the tartuffo.

So all in all it was a good start to birthday week. But I still have a lot of work in front of me.

Hey it will be our three year Anniversary!

Hey it will be our three year Anniversary on May 5th. Cinco De Mayo!

We are not having a big party, just handing out some champagne and stuff. It has been a wild ride so far and I think it is only going to get crazier!
