Another walk on the Boardwalk

Boardwalk Empire is back and I didn't even know it!

It started up again two weeks ago and I had to catch up on demand. I like to watch it to see the depiction of the gangster and Mafia doings in the 1930's. I am a student of that era so I enjoy seeing how they change and distort it. Which is fine since this fiction after all.

They have jumped forward seven years to 1931 when Prohibition is about the change. The covered the end of the Castellemarse war with the famous hit of Joe Masaria in Coney Island. Soon they will show the hit on Maranzano and the setting up of the Commission by Lucky and Meyer. Plus they are hitting the era of Capone and Ness in Chicago.

One of the most interesting subplots is Knucky going to get investors so he could start importing Barcardi rum after Prohibition is repealed. In the meeting he is questioned by Joe Kennedy the father of JFK and RFK. As many know (and many do not) he was a gangster who partnered up with Luciano and Lanksy and other bootleggers. I have almost never seen him as a character in a story about that era and his involvement in crime which was the foundation of the Kennedy fortune. So it is going to be really, really interesting to see how they are going to handle this.

Now I can cancel HBO for two months.

Now that "Boardwalk Empire" is over there is nothing I want to watch until "Game of Thrones" starts in a couple of months. I don't watch any of the other series as they are pretty lame. You have to begrude paying for something you don't really use anymore.

Boardwalk was interesting to me because they showed the gangsters like Al Capone, Meyer Lansky and Charles Lucky Luciano in their early years when Prohibition just began. They also feature Arnold Rothstein who was the major figure in organized crime of that time. It was very engrossing except for the silly subplot with Jimmy Darmody and his weird realtionship with his mother. Now that Jimmy was killed in the final episode they will move on to some less barque themes like gangsters and Prohibition. Boardwalk is writtin by the same people who did "The Sopranos" and they fell into the same traps. By trying to do "art" they started to lose sight of what people wanted to see. The gangsters.

Sunday night viewing will have to go back to only "The Real Housewives" and the stuff we missed during the week that we recorded.

When it is stuck in your mother's twat!

The second to the last episode of Boardwalk Empire goes full Oedipus Rex last night. Jimmy Darmody playing the Jimmy Cagney role had a bid flashback episode going back to his time in Princeton right before he enlists in the Army to go off to WW1. It was action packed. He impregnates his girlfriend who is later his wife who was murdered with her lesbian lover by a kosher butcher. He beats up his professor who tried to rape his mother who as you know is a hot mess. Oh and he fucks his mother and murders his father. All in 56 minutes.

It looks like they are going to get rid of a lot of actors in the finale so they don't have to carry them over to next year. The whole season is available on HBO ON-DEMAND so you can check it out. I recommend it highly.
