Hey cut Titus a break!

So the professor has started another one of her periodic referendums on our pal Titus. She casually noted that she was thinking of putting out a cd of her reading some of his performance art and as usual the comments came hot and heavy. A lot of people had a lot to say who don't really contribute a lot. I know Palladian finds Titus's act sort of tiresome but I think it just embarrasses him as a gay dude as he doesn't think it is all that funny or interesting and that the sexual adventures are over the top and the bathroom humor is not funny. As a businessman I feel that if the Professor thinks she could make some dough off of it she should do it. I respect where Palladian is coming from, you hate it when one of your people does shit that you feel makes you look bad. I feel the same when that fucking Bono starts his commie whining, it's a disgrace to Irishmen everywhere. But the rest of the commenters should produce some funny stuff before opening their pie holes.

Cause you know opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one. Just some are more stinky than others.

thanks troop.

Reading all of those negative comments we are a little rough.

Palladian is always saying negative things about me but now the entire place seemed to pile on.

I am a little scared.

I am just not going to do all the political stuff-can't I add in my own way?

Titus never bothers me. He often amuses me. I'm intrigued to know exactly who the real Titus is. By that, I don't mean I want to know his name, occupation, etc. I mean I'm curious to know him on the level of having a beer or two and shooting the breeze, like a next door neighbor kind of thing.

Titus, I'll gladly spend some time with you if you're ever in the sunny South.

I haven't checked out Althouse today...it sounds like I should.

Hey just be yourself pal. Don't let anybody shut you up.

Keep pinching those loaves, otherwise you going to be consitpated.

My only observation is that a lot of the people seem to be complaining that he lowers the discourse but also that they don't read him.

Even if he's an absolute fraud, I'll still take him over the political trolls.

If I'm not in the mood, I skip: No harm, no foul. (As it were.)

I just read through the post about putting Titus on a CD. What bothers me the most about the whole thread is that almost nobody addresses Titus directly. It's all talk *about* Titus, but not discussion *with* Titus. People write things about Titus that they probably wouldn't have the nads to say to his face.

Having said all that, I wondered how you feel about that, Titus? Do you give a shit about that or not? I'm thin-skinned and insecure enough to know that I couldn't read that about myself and ever visit the site again. That's partly why I'm a terrible salesman.

My $.02.

BTW, Freeze Frame was a great J Geils Band tune, wasn't it?

Titus is an inspiration, and the greatest original talent in the blogosphere.
Fuck all those boring hacks, dude.

Well I surely agreed with you there, Troop. Right up until you said something like...people like you, or looking back, one of your people?

What the heck is that?

Cause I am not "like you"...you know. :P

I would DARE to serve you OMG spaetzle instead of that globby white stuff you call...

Well? What DO you call it? ;)

On a less gastronomic note...

Titus? Come here, honey. I have MASSIVE, womanly, hugs for you.

Tonight, YOU are my Titus, my Loki, my leetle Puck!

If we meet tomorrow...and I call you my leetle FUCK?

Would you? Could you?

Eat Italian?

If so? I think Troop might just invite his newest best friends for dinner. Leelee? Woman to woman, you ROAR, Helen Reddy style.

Can I bring some floor? Or would you prefer a warm loaf. ;)

I am thin skinned and insecure but not by what people on a website say about me because they know so very little about me.

J Geils Band-yes Freeze Frame. Love them.

What I find surprising is that it generated so many comments.

Palladian has now even made a tape of my comments. Weird.

It's because many of us don't think "titus" is a real person, at least of the sort one could have a discussion with.

"I know Palladian finds Titus's act sort of tiresome but I think it just embarrasses him as a gay dude..."

Trooper, I don't particularly care that titus sets a bad example of gay people (if indeed he does) because I don't really think of other homosexuals as "my people". I don't identify with groups. My problem is that he sets a bad example of human beings.

Ok, that was a joke. But only just. The problem is this: 1. The titus routine is repetitive and therefore tiresome 2. The quantity of titus material is far too high relative to its quality 3. I don't particularly like scatological humor unless someone like Geoffrey Chaucer is doing it, and Titus is no Geoffrey Chaucer 4. I have always though that titus's goal was actually to disrupt and debase the comments section over there to the point that no serious discussion of anything is possible.

When I think about how Trooper York comments over there, often off-topic (at least superficially) and often humorously and irreverently, I'm struck by the difference in tone between what he does and what titus does. Trooper doesn't seem to be commenting from a negative place or for a negative purpose and titus does.

I respect quality, and I'm not a subjectivist regarding quality. I can't sit and say "oh well, live and let live! Diversity is good! Titus has something to contribute even though I don't like it!" It's not in my intellectual or genetic makeup to tolerate that which I find substandard or juvenile or ugly or wrong. Criticism is necessary if you believe strongly in your vision of what's right or what's beautiful or what's funny or whatever. If I don't like something, especially if it seems destructive, I comment. That doesn't make me the most popular person around but so be it. And I hope my counterfoil to titus provides amusement for those that don't derive any amusement from titus's comments.

Sometimes a loaf is just a loaf.

Give it a break, . Go over-anal-ize your own problems somewhere I don't need to read them.

He wishes he could be as funny as Titus.

(I erased two bad words from this post. I'm giving up personal attacks for Lent)

Nice to have Palladian over here. :)

Althouse set up that kind of commenting. I'm sure she knew what would happen.

She's sometimes deliciously passive-aggressive. It's a lawyer/law professor thing.

Is that Bush Doctrine subparagraph A (Oscar Gamble) or subpara B (Sinead O'Connor)? Inquiring Godzillas want to know.

It takes one to know one.

And I'm glad you know that when it's done right it's delicious.

I'd pay the Professor to live-blog Palladian's reading of Titus's Greatest Hits volumes 1- 3.

Especially if it came with liner notes by Skeptical, Trooper York, et al.

Titus' poo talk is akin to some photographer's love of the fisheye lens. Some tire of scatology and distorted photos far earlier than others. Gad, this could lead to fisheye pictures of pinched loaves.
