I used to go to Washington DC every year.....
Welcome back chickenlittle who was in our nations capital.
Back in the late sixties and early seventies. You see I was in the Boy Scouts and every year our district set up a trip to Washington DC. Hugh Carey was the congressman in Park Slope and the Scout districts had just consolidated the neighborhoods of Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope. So Carey who was on the Armed Services committee got us free lodging at Fort Meade in Maryland so all we had to pay for was the bus ride down.
I got to see every place in DC there was to see. The White House. The Capitol. The Memorials. The Smithsonian. Everything.
But what the kids liked the best was staying in Fort Meade. You see right outside the door was an old fashioned Army Navy store. You could buy great shit there. Brass knuckles. Nuk Chucks or whatever they were called. Switchblades. Nazi shit. It was cooler than cool.
Of course now they would arrest everybody.
Especially if their soda was too big.
The America I knew is dead.

Fort George G. Meade - great place. Went there many times as a yute, and many more times as an adult. Used to call on what is euphemistically referred to as "DOD".
All I will say about that is I know what it's like to be a leper in biblical times. Okay, not really, but when we outsiders walked in a room our host would call out "Unclear!"
Anyway, we used to call on a leper colony, right up until our business dropped off.
I went to DC three times in the last year or so--on top secret business. I'd been to DC on a visit in '92--first time actually--where I saw the basics. This was the first time I got to chill and hit some fine restarants and bars like the "Five Guys Burger" and the dive where we drank local swill while the kids stayed back in the room.
The weather was absolutely gorgeous last week and even much better than Oceanside which was brutally hot while we were gone. The best part though was coming home to brand new flooring which we had installed while we were gone. No more cat flea infested carpeting.
CL - what kind of flooring did you select?
Synthetic wood. No, that kind of synthetic wood.
Laminate? I just installed almost 1,000 square feet of it over at my other house. It's a snap.
Yep. I'll try can get a photo.
Has the cat been de-fleaed too?
Anyone up for making a Mohammed video?
blake, How about a Mohammed v Jesus video game?
Heheh...that has potential.

Even with full-dose Advantage, the flea problem was hard to keep up with two outdoor cats.
