Sometimes you can't understand the world.......

I was quite confused this morning. I must have changed the time on my alarm clock this morning because when it rang I got up and washed up and stumbled over to St. Mary's. But it was locked up tight. I couldn't understand it. Then I looked at my watch and saw that it was 9:00 instead of 10:00 so I was an hour early.

That never happens. I am never early.

So I decided to go and do some quick grocery shopping to get stuff I needed for tonight. We are getting ready to show our line to Japan for the next season so I might be too late to shop on the way home. I get all of my stuff and get to the check out line. As I am standing there I looked over and saw the Sunday Daily News. This was the front page:

This is what I had to look out before Mass.

Today was the feast of the "Cross Triumphant." Celebrating the Cross and what it stands for. The cross that Jesus died on. That he was martyred on by the forces of evil of his day. Today there are martyrs who are being killed by the forces of evil of our day. This man was not a soldier. He was not a journalist. He was an aide worker. He brought help and succor to the destitute. He was doing good works and saving lives.

He was killed by President Obama's friends. You know the ones that can not be mocked. The religion of peace. The ones he supports in every way he can. The one who he demands we not speak against. That we not slander.

This is what we have come to in this country.

An innocent dies. A good man is martyred by terrorist animals. Our President goes off to golf and fund raise.

I have faith the pendulum will swing back. That this leadership nightmare we have facing will reverse itself.

We can only hope, "Evi"... but I am rapidly losing faith in the cadre of our leadership, with only a few exceptions, new guys really, who might step up if given the chance. Without going in to details, please G-d tell me why Dick Cheney is again pushing in to Republican politics?

Go away Dick, you are from the era of the Nixon West Wing...not the guy to lead anyone today. Plus, you are older than me, sicker than me, and likely will croak before me...and I have cancer, you misguided neo-con schmuck. Thank you for your service as VP, now retire bitch, do it now. Go f'ing fishing. Anything...leave Washington. You are NOT integral to anything today except the potential to help Republicans lose elections. Why do guys like you think you are irreplaceable? You are not. Go away.

Given who Obama is, I'd rather having him Golfing then fucking up the country even more.

Do you remember the days where no Catholic Church was ever locked up tight? I know you do just as I do, even long before I became Catholic. Today, my better half, who is Realtor for Prudential and still office manages two parishes, will get up at the crack of dawn to open our churches if any service is due within an hour and 1/2.

Sends me to do so if she otherwise busy...I have a the keys. I also get to check the buildings at night if everyone else is out of town, ...and my method is to go slowly and turn on no lights, but make a modicum of noise...e.g., if there is a predator/thief inside I give him/her a chance to escape and an avenue to escape. Otherwise I am armed and very capable of stopping an attacker, but I prefer they just run away. No desire to shoot unless forced to do so. Inside a church...please. Just please.

Escape if you can asshole. Please. So I always give them a route or two to just leave...and yes, I have walked by a confessional booth when I knew a jerk was hiding there...then I stop, in the dark and say, leave now...just go away. Works 99% of the time. Hope the 1% never arrives.

At present I don't have a trained protection dog who can search a edifice without guidance, like Zoya and Ari did so well. "Dera" can check things, but she doesn't know what to do if she discovers something, other than to make noise. Zoya and Ari made checking the entire church facility so much easier. But my next dog will have that ability..."Dera' is just "too sweet" and hasn't been trained for the task....unless I was personally attacked in front of her, she'd not likely respond to an intruder...who knows? It is not her job.

"Zoya" on the other hand once "caught" the artist who designed and built a baptismal fountain, when he was back in the building at night just picking up some tools...she did not harm him, but held him at bay until I walked up. That was "Zoya's" way...bark and hold, attack only if attacked or escape was attempted. She was a "girl" dog, .... with a 22 inch neck and all muscle. Man I loved her more than I can say...as I have with all my dogs and horses, but Zoya" was a special part of my life.

rcocean ... you have it perfectly...I'm far less fearful of Obama when he is off playing somewhere, golf or tidally winks, just not in DC. He does more damage in DC than on some golf course...may he always be golfing. Please.

I don't know. But the photo of this poor guy with his neck extended just got to me.

Close friends of ours attended (the husband was on staff there) the church in Colorado where a gunman had to be eliminated after he went on a shooting spree. It's not sad that a terrible person gets killed, it's terrible that the nice person who has to do it is the one who will likely second-guess himself and suffer.

I don't. The witless crowd that elected Obama will double down and elect someone who promises more free goodies, instead of a sensible candidate that tries to tell them that the only way back to prosperity is less government not more.

Our republic is over. It's all bread and circuses now.

An hour early? You could have gone to confession, if they had let you in. If an hour would have been enough time.

The church I attend does the Latin Mass only. It has an interesting congregation; people from maybe three counties who are there every Sunday. The younger families have a LOT of kids, sometimes six or more per family.

If I show up an hour before Mass there's a line at two confessionals, people doing stations if the cross, others praying a group rosary. Few people leave at the end of Mass. Most stay for another half hour to pray, light novena candles, or talk with others.

The interesting thing is that time flies there. It never feels boring, in fact it's the best part of the week. The time there gets my mind off of the other stuff going on in the world, which is what it's supposed to do.

The thing is it was locked up tight.

Ari is right. I remember when it was different.

While most churches lock up at night, some churches have chapels open 24/7 for adoration of the Eucharist.

You know what they call the folks who arrive before the opening hymn?
