I would love a scotch and water with a twist of lemon peel, but have to go to a Water Board meeting in an hour and may have to be the Secretary to the Board tonight.
Ah well... Maybe it will be a short meeting.
Fancy cocktails I like but never make at home:
Whisky Sour, Ramos Fizz, blended lime Daiquiri.
Way back when....when I was a cocktail waitress and sometimes came to work with a hang-over (veeeerry rarely ...I have no idea how that could happen) the bartender would make me an Amaretto milk shake. Lots of good ice cream, cream and a triple shot of Amaretto. Yummy.
I remember when I was a kid and my parents used to have friends over for Grasshoppers. This was Wisconsin in winter and they were drinking ice cream drinks! I guess it combines the best of Wisconsin: dairy and alcohol.
Don't you just love it when you pour yourself a glass of wine and there's only about a half a glass left or so, so of course you have to go ahead and finish it off.
I would like to be Cliff Claven - besides being a know-it-all, it's a little known fact that I can do a wicked pissah Southy accent.
I like single malt, straight. I have been trying to convince my brother to bring some down from up north when he visits. Here in NC we have ABC stores and their stock is terrible. The selection in Edinburgh is much better.
Put all of the above in a mixing glass or shaker full of hard ice cubes and STIR (sorry James Bond) gently but quickly for 20 seconds. Strain into a cocktail glass. Add 4 brine-cured (not oil cured) green olives (no "pimento"!!) speared on a long toothpick. If you have them, it's divine to stuff the olives with very good anchovy fillets.
DBQ: Didn't you hear?? POTUS outlawed Water Boards!
Just got back from a 3 1/2 hour Water Board meeting and it WAS torture.
We are going through a lot of upheaveal. Fired the manager and will probably have to cut the employee's hours and benefit package in our current budgeting process because the State of California is not likely to give us our tax revenues this next year. A big big cut in the budget. Not fun.
I'm having my "first" scotch and left over pizza that my sweet hubby went and bought while I was gone.
Palladian, Your martini looks delicious and quite similar to the bittery tasting Negroni I like made with Campari.
In Madison, no establishment makes a Negroni better than the Greenbush Bar, a wonderful little Italian restaurant in the basement of the Italian Workmans Club.
I have been on a mixed drink run lately. I make one for me and one for the misses most nights. I had a kind of a rum martini two nights ago, they were tasty, but they used sweet vermouth, which was weird.
And orange bitters are killer! I just got some a couple of nights ago, and they are a great addition to my Peychaud's bitters.
Our go to drink is a Sazerac, becaue of our family's New Orleans connections. Try one, try two, but don't blame me if you try three!
But, eh, it's a little known fact that Roman Senators used to vote based on how much they could drink. That's where the In Vino Voteras thing comes from.
I actually have no idea. I've never been in such an establishment. (Cue skeptical laughter.) It's only partly the women (strippers aren't really my type) and hugely the thought of being in a room full of sweaty, aroused guys.
Er, NTTAWWT.
It seems to me that I've heard plenty of bios of comedians that went something like "He started by opening for a burlesque troop..." But that was the old days, I think. Not sure they do that any more.
I hate Sarah Jessica Parker, Robin Williams, Tim Robbins, Susan Saradon, the BJ Hunnicut guy, brussel sprouts, the Boston Red Sox, commies and well, lawyers.

What's the difference between a tavern and an elephant fart?
One is a bar room.
The other is a BAR-ROOOOOOMMM!
lord knows I could use a bar across the street today. Thank goodness I am taking a long weekend this weekend.
Try the veal, Ruth Ann is here all week.
Not bad, but more like the bar across the tracks.
Speakeasy describes this place perfectly. IMAO
I could use a martini, but I have to go to a class shortly. I'll join in when I get back!

God's teeth Simon, that's the best time for one!

Ooooh! I'll try that amaretto milkshake! For dessert tonight. After the chicken chimichanga that I'm baking instead of deep frying.
My favorite summertime drink is Riesling. You won't peer pressure me into an grown-up style cocktail, will you?
Who's going to be our Cliff Claven?

Made with mint ice cream instead of creme de menthe too naturally.
Wisconsinites are big brandy drinkers too. I have a hard time drinking brandy due to a single overindulgence in high school.

That reminds me of a great scene in Casino Royale.
James Bond: Wait... three measures of Gordon's; one of vodka; half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it over ice, and add a thin slice of lemon peel.
Bartender: Yes, sir.
Tomelli: You know, I'll have one of those.
Infante: So will I.
Bartender: Certainly.
Felix Leiter: My friend, bring me one as well, keep the fruit. .
Keep the fruit. I love it.
Best Bond movie ever.
Hoosier, I agree. Love that movie.

Hoosier, it's RCIA, so a drink in advance might not be a good idea. ;)

" My favorite summertime drink is Riesling."
When I was living in England, my favorite wine was a Riesling called Black Tower -- alas, I haven't seen it in the States!
Campari on ice.
I love bitters.
And now time for (the first of my) martini. Here's my recipe, delicious!
4 ounces Plymouth gin
1 ounce Dolin dry vermouth
a dash of Regan's Orange Bitters No. 6
Enjoy!

Mmmm...martinis. *mouth waters*
I prefer vodka, though.

I was going to go for Cliff, but got beat out. I can be Norm.

So who's the flouncer over by the door?
NORMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!
Well, I don't drink, unfortunately.
But, eh, it's a little known fact that Roman Senators used to vote based on how much they could drink. That's where the In Vino Voteras thing comes from.
There is no martini except for the gin martini. All else is farce.
By the way, a bar?
More like a strip club.
Even if it's been a little clothed around here lately.
Blake:
Opening act in a titty bar is usually the stand-up comic. Right? Isn't it? I was led to believe that to be the case.
