The most heroic version of Custer's last stand, this 1941 epic directed by Raoul Walsh was made just before we entered World War 2 and showed American Fighting men in a hopeless last stand. Much like Wake Island or the Philipines.
It gave the most generous view of Custer's actions and motives and starred Erroll Flynn as the boyish general.
It is pure Hollywood bullshit. If you notice the Dakota are wearing full headresses and war bonnets when they most likely went to war in lionclothes with their faces painted full on in war paint. Still it was Hollywood in the forties so it is what it is.
