De Blasio tries to cover his ass

So Red De Blasio met with the police unions to try and salvage this messed up situation. He can't. He has only one play.

You see the cops know that De Blasio does not support them and never did no matter how many mealy mouth lies he tells now. His heart is with Al Sharpton and the protestors. If he wasn't Mayor he would be right there with them. So the cops will never believe him when he tells them he supports them. As the union reps said time will tell. He has only one play with the cops.

He has to bribe them.

They will take a bribe. If he gives them a big raise he might win some of them over. They might start enforcing the revenue raising regulations that they have dropped this past week as documented by the New York Post. You see all of the cops are on a ticket quota. So many speeding tickets. So many parking tickets. Quality of life tickets. Revenue for the unceasing demands of big government. If you don't get your quotas the bosses punish you. No overtime. Shitty vacation slots. Midnight tours. So you have to make the quota or get screwed. But if everyone is not doing it you can't get screwed. No tickets get written.

That really hurts the theory of community policing. You see the idea is you stop the little crimes and identify who is committing them by running them through the system. That is how you catch the guys who have outstanding warrants and get them to roll over on other criminals. Those guys are not getting caught when they jump a turnstile. They are free to do whatever they want. Promoting a feeling of lawlessness and anything goes. The way De Blasio did when he allowed the protesters to vent and block traffic and do whatever they want. Not enforcing the law only leads to one thing. Lawlessness.

So De Blasios only play is to spend his way out of this mess. It might be a liberal Democrats preferred move but will his supporters allow him to do it? They will demand that he use that money to pour into the rathole of public education or welfare benefits. They will never agree to give it to the cops. He is screwed. I don't see a way out of it for him. He will never drop Sharpton or the race card. He doesn't have a move to make here.

The City is broke as far as I know. What will happen is that more and more "decision makers" will hire private security and/or bunker down. De Blasio et al seem interested in gutting Wall St. and the cash-cow role it plays.

Certain parts of the city will self-police and those which are successful will attract people. Since New Yorkers by and large are no longer having kids, it doesn't make sense that people should move to suburbs for better schools - they will move for better security.

I think we've reached a tipping point with public services. I remember when they lagged in benefits (especially teachers and academics); now they often exceed those in the private sector. This is wholly unsustainable.

I have to disagree Chickie. There are many young families in my neighborhood. They are almost all extreme De Blasio liberals. Of course there kids are almost all young. Under seven. Once they start going to school and getting mugged and raped they will quickly become "Giuliani" conservatives.

It is all a cycle. We are on a downward trend right now. I just don't want to be around for the ride.

This guy is a horseshit politician. I saw Obama called Bratton to offer support after the cop killings. He didn't call hizzoner. He smells a loser.

Mayor De Blasio is Detroit's old Coleman Young, who also ran on a anti-police platform...and wrecked morale for decade plus. What I predicted about cops in NYC laying back and being less responsive is coming true from the news I've read or seen. He's no doubt as corrupt as our Kwame Kilpatrick, as well, who followed Young. Welcome to 1974 redux, NYC. Still baffles me how he got elected in 2014...even in an east coast city.

He only got elected b/c Weiner's campaign went limp.

...went limp.

Now that is a good one :-) Weiner or De Blasio...just WTF happened that either had a prayer in perpetual Hades of being elected? NYC all smoke BC-Bud around the clock? Or was it the whiskey? Bejesus, it makes no sense that "Big Bird" managed to win. No, wait, we did the same here in Detroit in 1974 and paid for it dearly. NYC will too.
