Hey it might be free but it's not right.

While I was discussing Lawrence Block and my favorite book "When the Sacred Ginmill Closes" I went looking on-line for a brief quote I could use in a post like I do with the movie quotes that I love to link to messed up photos. Much to my surprise I found several sites where you could download the book for free! Holy cow! That can't be right?

I mean the author should be getting a piece of the pie. Now Baen books has a free download library but that is by the publisher and by the agreement with the authors. These other sites don't seem to do that. So the author doesn't get jack shit from this . I would never download a book from one of my favorite authors. I wonder what they are doing about this?

It really sucks when now you can get the book for seven bucks or so. Why not let the author make a few dollars?

We have to encourage them to write more. Just sayn'

Hey, I was just about to grab this from Amazon on your recommendation, but it looks like it's a sequel to "8 Million Ways to Die" -- do you think these really have to be read in order? Or should I just go with Ginmill and not worry about it?

I love this author so much I want him to have to work as an accountant or starve to death!

I guess that's the logic.

I think it's really cool when a real artist shows up on your blog. I once did a blog post where I mentioned Steve Goodman, who wrote the song "City Of New Orleans" A guy who wrote Goodman's bio showed up.

Then there's Larry Lambert, a frequent commenter. He writes real books.

I recently bought Sippican Cottage's new book but I have yet to read it.

When TY writes his autobiography, I'll pre-order it.

This is the second time one of my favorite writers dropped by. SM Stirling did as well a while ago when I was ranting about waiting for his next book.

It is always a great feeling to hear from your heros.
