The photo shot today was exhausting. The girls had to change their outfits including shoes and accessories. My wife is a perfectionist so it took a while to get the right "look." So we were there for a while.
One of the innovations we plan to offer is to sell a "look." A customer will often point to an outfit on a mannequin as say "I want that exact look." They buy it right down to the flip flops and bag. So we are putting together "looks" that you can get ready made to take the decision making out of your hands. I don't know if you noticed this but a lot of people like to let other people make their decision's for them.

We learn that in Mary Kay: Sets sell. So when you do the close, you show the Basic Set, The Miracle Set and the I-Deserve-It-All set. Most people will choose the middle set. Or, if they just can't swing that, they'll sheepishly ask during their individual consultation if it's o.k. to just start with the Basic and earn the rest as a hostess. Is it o.k.? Making people feel glad about their purchases is what the pros call 'selling.'
My wife and our good friend were the models. We used the guy who did my Communion pictures 40 years ago. Well his son, cause things don't change much in Carroll Gardens. But he did a great job. I am only going to use real people for my models, because the key to the store is that it has clothes for "real" women. Not impossibly thin stick figures.
Even the BBW models tend to have one type of figure. Normal people is good.
