Another great flick from Walter Hill.

And you wondered what Jay Leno did before he got the Tonight Show?

What's with the Walter Hill retrospective, did he die?

No, I just felt like it.

The most memorable Walter Hill movie for me was "48 Hours". I was in college and some student group was raising money by showing films in one of the larger lecture halls.

I was familiar with this particular lecture hall since I had taken a couple of classes that met there. One nice thing about this hall was that if you slept-in or were just running late, there was a balcony to it and you could sneak-in there and not attract notice.

My room mate and I were just wandering the campus one Friday night and happened upon the film. We couldn't, for some reason, get into the main room (didn't happen to have money on us, or it was sold-out--I don't even remember now). Then we remembered about the balcony!

Went up there and one of the doors was unlocked. We snuck-in and just in time for the opening credits to run. Then the door opened and a campus cop came in and sat down right next to us! We figured that at any moment he would realize that we didn't have tickets and bust us, so this added to the frisson of the movie. Just before the end, he got up and left and we realized that he was just doing what we had done and probably just as nervous about it too.

Anyway, now I don't know if it was just a really solid film or if being wound-up added something to it. Fine either way.

You have to check out "Streets of Fire." It is one of my guilty pleasures.
