Jeter's back and my daughter, who like her grandfather, is a big Yankee fan. She's 24 so she's followed Jeter since she was a kid. I've taken her to ballparks in the Midwest to see the Yanks[Chicago, Motown]. The Yanks played an interleague series in Milwaukee the year she graduated high school and tix were her present. She now live in the Twin Cities so she's in AL city.
The year we took her to Comerica, the Yanks clinched their division. That night I put the women to bed in the hotel and went to the MGM casino. I'm a craps player. After an hour or so @ the table I was losing and ready to leave. Then up walks Torre and the Yankee coaching staff. They squeezed in and played for ~hour. No players did I see, only coaches. Maybe they agree to go to different casinos? Torre was the alpha of the group..a gent and good craps player. Zimmer was the clown w/ guys rubbing his head for luck..he's a shit player. Mazzilli played but was looking for pussy. Then we got to the REAL craps guy..Stottlemyre. He ended up next to me. We did craps talk[short snippets..like Tweeting, no long converstions]. After Torre announced, "Lets go play blackjack boys" and the entourage followed, Stott stayed and we played craps for a couple hours..up and down. Talked a little baseball. I got a heads-up that since they clinched there was a good chance my daughters guy, Jeter, wouldn't play. Torre had said it was hard to keep him out, especially in his home state, but Stott said he probably wouldn't play. He was right. We did get to see your Fatboy pitch that weekend. What's up w/ Stott. He was a real down to earth, nice guy.
Thats a great story nd. I once spent a couple of hours playing blackjack with Pete Rose and Steve Carlton when they were with the Phillies and went to AC every chance they got. Never had a chance to do it with a Yankee though.
If you get a chance hit the tabs Derek Jeter and Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend for some funny Yankee stuff. You will enjoy.
Yeah, Jeter's back and Jeter worship benches Nunez, who has the kind of gas in his tank Jeter can only dream about recapturing, ain't gonna happen. I pity Girardi, who in deference to a million Troops has to stifle the correct managerial move, acknowledge the new kid's your shortstop by keeping Nunez in and use Jeter as DH on the days he's resting Posada.
The Yankees always honor their superstars in the twilight of their careers. Not to say that Jeter is there yet. He is still a very servicable short stop soon to get 3000 hits.
From Gehrig to Joe D to Mantle to Jeter we take care of our own.
Jeter is a winner and will do something to help us win the World Series. He will play out his contract at another position next year. Maybe left field. Like Yogi did. Like Mickey did. Like the Yankees always do.
We ain't the Mets. We take care of our own.
Jeter won't have to be on Celebrity Apprentice to pick up a few bucks. Just sayn'
Would love to go take in a ball game, but the closest major league stadkium is Atlanta. The Braves suck. More than the Mets. We used to go watch Braves games. It was great. You could walk up and get your tickets from the scalpers--$5 for seats 10 rows back from 1st base. The old Fulton County Stadium. There might be 12,000 people in the whole stadium. Watch the Braves get their asses handed to them by anybody and everybody. Then they got smart and bought a decent pitching staff. The scalpers are smart businessmen, so prices rose. Haven't been to a major league game in almost 20 years now.
You could say the same about Babe Ruth. And Roger Clemens. And Wade boggs. And David Cone. All did great things for the Yankees and are remembered fondly. But they weren't sll true Yankees.
Even the Babe was never a died in the wool from the minors Yankee. He is a Yankee but not like Gerhig, Joe D, Yogi, Whitey, Mickey, Bernie, Mariano, Jorge and Derek.
I hate Sarah Jessica Parker, Robin Williams, Tim Robbins, Susan Saradon, the BJ Hunnicut guy, brussel sprouts, the Boston Red Sox, commies and well, lawyers.

Happy July 5th.
It is being reported that July 4th is a GOP holiday. Okay by me, since Democrats have been celebrating April 1st for decades.

As a citizen of Red Sox Nation, I appreciate that Yankee sense of loyalty, Troop. Warms my heart.
It really does.
Tim check the thread below for some interesting poop.
And not from Titus for once.

The Mets suck. Did I mention that?
You can never say that enough windbag.
The Braves suck.
Ever since they left Milwaukee.
Trooper, I agree w/ your Yankees take care of their own credo. But, there are exceptions..Maris comes to my head immediately.

It is a select thing.
