Talking baseball with Ted Williams Disembodied Head

"Welcome to another edition of talking baseball with the disembodied head of Ted Williams. Welcome Ted how are you feeling today?"
"Cold you fucking pissant. I am in a freezer for fucks sake."
"Right-o Teddy Ballgame thanks for that. So what do you think about the series so far?"
"I don't know. Why aren't they playing their best players. I haven't seen McCovey or Mays or even George Freakin Brett for Christsake! Who is this Posey Pussy? I don't understand!"
"Ok Ted thank for the sparkling analysis. It just proves that you are just as big a winner at commenting as you were at playing."
"Fuck you asshole! If I only had arms I would throw  a bag of frozen peas at you you fuckwad."
"Now back to the Sports Desk. I think another NFL player spanked his three year old or something."

I originally misspelled one sentence where I called Williams "just as bi a winner."

On reflection that would work too. Just sayn'

Keep it coming, Trooper.

I'm enjoying the Crackhead's assault on TOP, too.

Poetic justice.

I'd like to see them attach Ted's head to Yoenis Cespedes' body. Just to keep the LF tradition alive at Fenway.

Plus, it would freak out all those Boston lefties to try to figure out if Ted Cespedes was white, black, or Hispanic.

Switch hitter? I did not know that. I saw an interesting stat on Fox News Sunday. The lowest # of viewers for a 1st game, 12 million, watched Game 1 of the WS this year. The last time the Royals played in 1985, 34 million watched game 1. WS viewers decrease every year. But football is the TV game. 90% of avid NFL fans have never been to a game.

ChipS, I saw Cespedes play in the World Baseball Classic in San Diego. He was an obvious future defector. Chapman started for Cuba and DiceK for Japan. That was when DiceK was pitching 900 innings a year. Last I saw he was a long reliever for the Mets!

I was in a restaurant last night w. only one TV (at the small bar) and it was tuned to fucking college football. I had to follow the Series on my phone.

Idiocracy is upon us.

ndspinelli said...

I can't believe the deal Billy Beane made giving up Cespedes.

Chip S. said...

Fucking DiceK left it all on the field for his homeland in that '09 WBC. He never could pitch well again.

Chip S. said...

That trade put a serious dent in Billy B's legend.

Hey nick, I read your comment at Turley's where you casually mentioned that you carry a wooden bat in your car in case you come upon a batting cage.

That is utterly cool.

ndspinelli said...

Chip, The primary purpose is protection, but I do stop @ batting cages. They never have wooden bats. This bat has been w/ me since the 80's. I also have a large head and they usually only have one helmet that will fit. Chip, it's that sound of the crack when you hit the sweet spot. Audio Viagra.

ndspinelli said...

Good to see you active again, dude. You are an all-star.

Chip S. said...

nick, I know what you mean about the sound of the bat.

I was in St. Louis recently and visited the Cards' museum. One of the cool exhibits lets you hold (but not swing) a game-used bat by several all-timers. Ozzie's bat was 35 oz. vs. Musial's 34, yet it was so well balanced that it felt lighter.

If you're ever in StL, you should def. go to the museum. It's across the street from the Busch CF entrance.

(Bracing myself for the inevitable shit about Ozzie's big bat.)

ndspinelli said...

Thanks for the lead. I have some friends who grew up in StL and are huge fans. I've been to the new stadium once, Royals v Cards a few years ago. Next time I'll hit the museum.

In the Jesse Stone series of novels by Robert B Parker he makes a big deal out of Ozzie Smith. The character was an ex short stop who has a poster of Ozzie on his wall. The latest book actually has a bunch on Ozzie and is about the reunion of the minor league team and the guy that cost the main character his shot at the big leagues.

Of course Ozzie Smith was just a fancy ass version of Mark Belanger. Belanger made all the plays he just didn't brag about it like Ozzie. Just sayn'

ndspinelli said...

Are you serious? Vizquel is the best shortstop I've seen. Ozzie second. Belanger wouldn't make my, or anyone's top 20.

ndspinelli said...

But, no one can have a serious discussion on sports w/ you Trooper. Too much political posturing.

ndspinelli said...

You're like Dredd in that regard.

Chip S. said...

Ozzie Smith 43.4 career defensive wins above replacement (1st all-time)

Mark Belanger 39.4 career dWAR (2nd all-time)

Omar Vizquel 28.4 career dWAR (10th all-time)

Trooper York said...

I saw Mark Belanger play many times in Yankee Stadium. He was the best I ever saw.

And i hate the fuchin' Orioles.

ndspinelli said...

Where does the great, Eddie Bressoud fit in w/ whatever the fuck that stat is?? I grew up in Ct. w/ a lotta French Canucks and a buddy of mine loved Eddie Bressoud. What a ham n' egger on some very mediocre early 60's BoSox teams.

ndspinelli said...

Pete Runnels was their best hitter a year or two. PETE RUNNELS.

ndspinelli said...

Cards future star, Oscar Tavarez, died in a car crash in the DR.

ndspinelli said...

Reminds me of Harry Agannis dying.

Chip S. said...

I"ll admit--and am ashamed--that my first reaction to the Taveras news was to wonder if the Cards would like to get Allen Craig back.

Chip S. said...

Eddie Bressoud: career dWAR 5.2, with 3.4 of it accumulated in his 4 seasons w. Boston.

Apparently he hit better than Ozzie.

Chip S. said...

Well, that game didn't turn out too well.

KC seemed to go into "coast" mode up 4-1 last night and haven't been able to get back into high gear. Totally outplayed tonight.

ndspinelli said...

Game 6 of a series is often classic, particularly when it's in the park of the team down 3-2. This is the same scenario as 1985. The Royals need Don Denkinger to come down from Iowa and work first base.

You go to hell for that thought on Allen Craig. Ah, maybe just purgatory.

Chip S. said...

So you're sayin' a couple dozen Hail Marys won't do the trick, nick?

rcocean said...

Mark Belanger - the epitome of good field, no hit. That must have some infield with Brooks Robinson at 3rd.

TV ratings for WS are low because lots of East Guys don't care about SF or KC. You need some East coast team for them to care. I think the St. Louis vs. KC W/S had the lowest ratings ever.

rcocean said...

As for comparison to Football. I heard MLB was a dying sport when I as a kid - and that was 40 years ago.

Trooper York said...

That is why Belanger was so good. He couldn't hit for shit but played for a great team for many years.

Ozzie was a much better hitter but also I much flashier player. I prefer Belanger who is the best I ever saw by far.
