Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas.

Hey, it snowed here overnight so the kids have their white Christmas!

Troop, you wanna class up the joint? Could you post a video from Youtube? Well, if you wanna. Anyway, it's Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition and the particular video that I think is just tremendous is "Pictures At An Exhibition by Chicago Symphony and Solti." It's the long one, 59: 55 to be precise. First half is Solti in rehearsal and at the piano explicating (if that's the right word) the piece, which makes appreciation of the performance that follows much greater, IMO. Sixty'll dig it...unless he's totally wasted.

Merry Christmas to all. Had our Christmas here yesterday w/ kids and spouses, great time.

Merry Christmas to one and all! Very wintry and snowy here this morning - the perfect weather for Christmas.

We went to Mass last night, stayed up until 2AM afterwards. Slept late this morning and just now getting around to making coffee. This will be a lovely, quiet Christmas Day.

Maybe we'll go our later for Chinese.

Merry, merry Christmas, y'all. And, speaking of beer, Merry Christmas from Bob and Doug.

Merry Christmas. I tried to take the dogs for a walk but apparently it's colder than I thought and the little one flat quit. I turned around and she was gone, waiting at the door when I made it back. Shivering, even in her coat.

I checked the temperature it's about ten. Oddly enough I was sweating in a flannel shirt and light sweatshirt.

Maybe I need to move to Alaska. Go mine gold in the Klondike or something.

Nice, ric. I went and looked it up. If more people spent time talking about the music like that more people would listen to that music. I was in my twenties before someone explained a Beethoven piece to me in a way that made me really care about it.

When I mentioned it to my girlfriend (who was a serious classical musician (viola) and product of art schools and so forth...she looked at me like I'd sprouted a fourth eyeball.

She thought everyone just knew that stuff.

I returned to my old neighborhood - my friends and neighbors have a party and for some reason the keep inviting me. It was good to see the old gang again - much catching up to do and much eating an talking to accomplish.

Yesterday a guy, who as coincidence would have it, lives right behind where the party was being held, called to say that a burl on a tree that I had mentioned years ago was now available - a tree service had taken down the tree and Clyde had them saw around the burl so as to leave it intact for bowls.

I had no idea how big the thing was, but I loaded up my medium sized saw and headed out.

Hoowee - should have packed the big saw - the burl is about 2 feet in diameter and it was a big job to separate it from the log.

Anyway, I managed to git 'er done and what says "Christmas" better than the whine of a chainsaw, am I right?

Got it loaded in the truck and still made it to the party on time.

There were babies and young people and middle aged people and old timers abounding. Great fun. When the host's mother and copilot got up to leave I took my leave as well - they are only a couple of years older than I am and there is no reason to stay out too late when one has a long drive ahead.

So I am home, full of good food and thankful for the joys of the season.

Tomorrow I can start turning the burl - it might be a massive undertaking with awesome results, but a burl is like a box of chocolate.

Yeah, I am watching Forrest Gump. Any movie about my my relatives is a good thing.

That comment needs editing, but that's not going to happen.

Chocolates! I know these things!

That's lovely, Sixty. Merry Christmas.

Thank you Darcy. Merry Christmas to you, too. Hope you avoided operating any and all power tools on this wonderful day.

I took the dogs for a walk this morning and noticed the oddest thing. Sunday it was 77 degrees here, then Monday we had a huge amount of rain fall - river was way up, water was everywhere. Yesterday it started getting cold and this morning - ICE! There was ice on the top of the water. Ice here, ice there - ICE!!! For shame! How uncivilized!

Somehow I have had far too much coffee today. I am seriously considering washing and detailing the roof of my house.

Sometimes I drink so much coffee, I could thread a moving needle on a sewing machine.

Sixty, a friend went paddling on a lake Monday. 60 degrees and he had to break through ice when he put in. We've had all four seasons this week here in God's country. In the teens again tonight. Crazy amount of rain earlier this week.

I closed up yesterday and today. Not many perks in the restaurant business for my crew, so I can at least give them time off at Christmas. Still had to go in to make sure coolers and such are all running. Noticed that Shoney's, McDonald's, and Huddle House are all open. Disgusting shit, but I will admit that I eat at HH occasionally.

I felt sorry for those people, having to work. And the manager of those places is in a crappy position, having to enforce being open on a holiday.

Laid back holiday for us. Wife is recuperating from surgery. In-laws were supposed to spend Christmas with us. Mother-in-law arrived last week to take care of my wife post-surgery, but my son came home from work Monday with the flu. My m-i-l packed up and I ran her home. It's four hours one way, so my f-i-l met us halfway.

Son was hallucinating from fever all night Monday and half of Tuesday. He's much better today, but we've been making him wear a mask and made him sit at the other end of the dinner table today.

I did get a tin of cashews and got the "Breaking Bad" series on blu-ray, so life is tolerable for awhile anyway.

I'm starting to feel normal again, all calm and so forth. It's been a lovely day, very quiet. It's been just the two of us here today. We didn't need or want to go anywhere.

Simple, quiet days can be the best ones.

windbag, My daughter is a chip off the old block. I taught her to always tip and to tip generously @ times. Taught her to always tip hotel housekeepers and to always thank good service verbally and monetarily. She emailed me after she got home to the Twin Cities from Madison. Her husband wasn't brought up w/ this philosophy but has a generous heart and has adapted well to it. They stopped for breakfast @ a Perkins in Black River Falls[great name] and tipped the waitress $30 for working Christmas. Made that young woman's day. It's so easy to make someone's day. She made mine.

We went to see American Hustle yesterday afternoon. Good flick. Jennifer Lawrence is the real deal and I hope Hollywood doesn't change her. All good acting. I had not gone to a movie on Christmas since my buddy and I went to a porn movie theatre back in 1972 in Waterbury, Ct. The complex and parking lot was packed!

The Packers have announced that Aaron Rodgers will start Sunday against the Bears. That will be a must-watch game, alright. Winner carries the division.

I really hope he doesn't take a hard hit near the collarbone. I like Rogers. He's one of the good guys in the NFL.
