So it looks like the Yankees made a good deal./

They gave out a big contract to the Red Sox's best player Jacoby Ellsbury. I think it is a great move. It takes away from the Sox and adds a lot to the Yankees. We replace Granderson and get a great player who is a winner. So it is all good.

Now a lot of you are gonna say "What about Robinson Cano?" Who gives a shit? He had the chance to be the man this year. There was no Jeter or A-Rod and he had the chance to take the team and lead them to the playoffs. He did squat. So why pay him? He can get his money somewhere else if anyone will give it to him. Offer him a reasonable contract. If he is smart he will stay with the Yankees. If not that is just fine.

Yep, he's perfect for Yankee Stadium.

Not gonna throw out anyone from CF, but will cover a lot of territory. With Gardner in LF you've got solid coverage of a lot of turf.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Meadehouse should see if they can pick up this contract...

Two bloggers, one cup. Meade is into expanding his fetishes.

The Dude said...

When the check clears he will be the Ellsbury dough boy.

Chip S. said...

I'll go out on a limb here and predict at least 25 HR for Ellsbury thanks to the tiny RF in YS.

Lem Vibe Bandit said...

It was expected that he was going to leave. He wasn't as good as he could have been this season. But still, I wish we have kept him.

Lem Vibe Bandit said...

We got another catcher. Kaspersky? from Texas. Played with the White Sox for many yeas.

Lem Vibe Bandit said...

Usually when contracts are up, players turn it up a notch. Not Ellsberry.

Lem Vibe Bandit said...

God is a Yankee fan?

Yea right.

Chip S. said...

I think you're referring to a couple of players named Pierzynski and Ellsbury, Lem.

I'm not sure, tho, b/c what you say about "Ellsberry" bears little relation to Ellsbury's season.

He was their second-best non-pitcher in the playoffs, while playing with a severely bruised hand:

Teammates would look at Ellsbury’s left hand during the post-season—discolored and severely swollen, up to the forearm—and express surprise that he was playing at all.

Yeah, it's too bad he's gone to the NYY, but his replacement will be an interesting young player, and the team is still in good shape. No need to pretend JE's not a really good player.

I do wonder if Cashman remembers that he's got to find a pitching staff somewhere, tho.

Cody Jarrett said...

Good analysis, Chip.

I only disagree with you on the analysis of JBJ--but that's one of those who the heck really knows kinda things.

And supposedly they're looking at Granderson? Oy.

Cody Jarrett said...

Although I do wonder if this was Cashman's doing--or entirely Cashman's doing. He's been trying to be smarter about things. This smells like a Steinbrenner desperation splash move.

I'm not sure how Troop thinks it takes all that much from the Sox, since it's been expected for 2-3 years.

Cody Jarrett said...

BTW is this the first time a guy in a Red Sox uniform has been featured on the front page of the Trooper York blog where he hasn't been being mocked for something?

Chip S. said...

Cody, agree on all points. I tried to hedge on JBJ by saying "interesting," which I think he'll be unless he totally stinks.

I never thought the NYY were serious about staying under the luxury tax payroll limit. Why should they? They've got a fuckin' gold mine up there in the Bronx. And their fans are getting restless at Boston's 3-to-1 edge in championships in the 21st century. (I say that 2000 was the last year of the 20th century.)

This seems to put some pressure on the Sox to sign Napoli, but if they don't I'd like to see them kick the tires on Choo, who should age well. Platoon him in LF w/ Gomes, and move Nava to 1B.

Or Beltran in LF, on short years.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

If TrooperYork.blogspot was a baseball team...

Cody Jarrett said...

Chip, I'm also intrigued by Choo. I still don't know a lot about him, but have been paying a little more attention since one of the non-meatheads at EEI was raving about him the other day (I was even more interested when one of the meatheads immediately started downing the guy...).

Cody Jarrett said...

But it's hard to care much about baseball when the Broons are in first place.

So there's that.

ricpic said...

Great advice Cano is getting from Jay-Z. The Yanks are willing to give him 7 years at about $25 million a year. That takes him to age 38. In other words the Yanks are willing to pay him a huge yearly salary in the 3 years when he is over 35. Statistically not a great gamble from the Yanks' standpoint. Plus, he's a second baseman, a physically wearing position. It's a super deal. But Jay-Z's probably revving Cano up on the unfairness, hell, the racism of those slavedriver Yanks not covering him to age 40. Walk away, Yanks.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Stop Whining about the Yankees...

ricpic said...

That's a good article, Evi. My 2 cents is that the Yankees continue to suffer the effects of a roster weighted to older players, with the inevitable breakdowns and mediocre productivity, because they refuse to go through a building period. Instead, in order to make the playoffs each and every year, they go looking for over 35ers who've had great careers, and gamble that they can get one or two more magical years out of them. A bad bet.

I wandered by Althouse's place out of curiosity and noticed that neither Inga nor Titus had any comments there.

The usual suspects were there in force - ARM, garbage, Kookie, special Ed and the rest, but no Inga and no Titus.

What is up with that? Are they being deleted by the Dog Faced Boy?

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

I am no fan of the Yankees, but I will give Steinbrenner and his family credit: They are willing to try to win.

Now, as someone who does not like the Yankees, I am glad that they are not pulling it off. But they are trying.

There are way too many MLB owners who think so long as you make money who cares if your team sucks.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Sixty, maybe the dog raper went after the rare Clumber...or Inga?

Chip S. said...

Evi, let me know if you'd prefer that I didn't bash Special Ed on your blog and I'll stop. I know he's your most loyal commenter, but nothing pisses me off quite like people who just make shit up and then pontificate about their imaginary world.

It's like reading about "secret routers" but w/o the comedy value.

MamaM said...

What is up with that?

She's on sweetness and light kick again, grooming the audience for another round. Look for someone named "Annie". Can't say for sure the Annie turning up at Althouse (anti-gay tip thread) is same one revealing herself over at Jonathan Turley's place with her red dress picture as avatar, but the same "divide and conquer" method of flattery and veiled snark that was used here upon entry is being currently being employed over there. Use of the name "Annie" appears to be another swipe at ND, who used the name to swipe at Althouse.

I don't think Inga or Titus are being deleted. It's my guess they are looking for ways to repackage and retool their show.

Cody Jarrett said...

MamaM, I just looked at Turley's and the new avatar for "Annie" is...well...

There's no other way to say it.

It's that 3/4 sideway slight grin Inga picture she used @ Althouse for a while.
The one where she doesn't look so bad if you didn't know her you might think she was a nice person and not a nasty elderly bitch...that picture.

Cody Jarrett said...

she's the third comment at the 'police charge man with police shooting' thread, so you don't have to search.

Cody Jarrett said...

She had this to say in the thread about Morales the lesbo waitress...

Sociopathic liars come in all shapes, colors, genders, sexual identities and sexes. It doesn’t have a thing to do with her sexual identity, just anticipating the first such comment.

So she's got a new, never before seen self aware streak goin' on.

The Dude said...

LOL @ CJ - oh yeah, except that she doesn't.

Cody Jarrett said...

I remain convinced that, while there's a real person named Ingerburger Humperdink out there, the Inga blogger account (and Mary and Annie and all the other et ceteras) are used by the dog raper and the strap on queen as they feel like it.

Especially since in another comment thread "annie" referred to someone as "hound dogs".

They sit around wearing their box wine hats with the direct transfusion systems and say "watch this! IT's gonna totally fuck with em!"...and they do something like have Inga's picture show up with the name Annie.

To quote from The Departed: It is because they are cunts.

MamaM said...

Whether it's Oop/Inga, Titus, or the Pair in the Adjustable Chairs, pulling the strings, overall integrity appears to matter less to any of them than self amusement/aggrandizement, power, and control.

Chip S. said...

TOP seems to have settled back to its status quo ante, minus a handful of former denizens.

What a callous bitch. Does she care not at all about those people who told her how much better her blog was w/o comments?

I guess if you're a determined string-puller, you want as many marionettes around as possible.

Cody Jarrett said...

And by the way: there's no chance cano could've led that yankee team to the playoffs. He only plays one position, and he doesn't pitch.

Good luck with the rotation.

Michael Haz said...

TOP seems like someone's meds finally kicked in. As to Limburger, good riddance.

MamaM said...

Cold, but not exceedingly so, El Pollo. We're just above that moving mass of iciess that is sweeping through lower Indiana and Ohio on south. So it's 19 degrees here, which feels cold, but it's not in the minuses like it's been further west. My niece in WA is freezing and having difficulty getting water to her horses. She put the hoses in the hot tub to thaw them out.

What's it like in your garden spot?

MamaM said...

Wow and hmmm... I just checked the Chill Map and west of the Mississippi is deep freeze. Either the Big Lake is protecting us, or the extreme cold hasn't reached here yet.

Not that anyone asked, but the weather is fairly dramatic here - it was nearly 80 yesterday and by tomorrow we could be covered by ice. That kind of change can be a shock to the system.

I'd claim to know some shit, except that I never saw the NYY signing Beltran. Cuz I didn't know he could pitch.

Maybe Hank and Hal are planning to plant some PEDs in Wells' and Ichiro's lockers.

chickelit said...

I've maintained here on several occasions that Titus still reads here. Also, note his ongoing obsession with responding to me and only to me on the TOP Sullivan thread. Hmmm.

Michael Haz said...

There's been variation in the Titus character in the past few months. Anger for a time, then nothing, and now the chipper happiness again. Odd how that mirrors AA's moods, no?

Michael Haz said...

@Pollo - The "Titus" comment at 12:22 isn't written in the usual Titus voice. It reads very Inga-like.

It could also be AA responding to you but noting wanting to use her own voice so that she can toss out an insult or two. Note the unusual lack of capitalization. It's a character who wants us the think it's a different character by the lack of proper grammar, etc.

Transparent.

Cody Jarrett said...

Mr. Haz, thank you.

Perhaps with you saying it they'll actually pay attention--or believe--or consider--or something.

Cody Jarrett said...

And he (whoever "he" is) still read here. I don't know.

But his obsession of you, Chicken, isn't noteworthy. He--they--don't like you.

Why can't you let it just be that? Is it that hard for you to accept that there are people you just rub wrong?

:)

The Dude said...

Rien de rien, non, je ne regrette rien, that's an approach to life that appeals to me, but having mentioned T&I upthread is making me rethink my entire philosophy for living.

Nah, not really, but I'll try not to mention them again. It was just wishful thinking on my part. Hoping against hope that they had gone elsewhere. So it goes...

But I'll still try to minimize my regrets - Ol' Blue Eyes was on to something.

chickelit said...

The difference is, Cody that the little shit loves to follow me around, almost like a stalker. He likes to leave little piles of shit at places where I write: TOP, TOOP, and my own moribund blog. It's creepy and underhanded and shows a lack of something human, much like Althouse herself regarding her treatment of long-time commenters like Palladian and others. It shows an obsessive desire to control narrative. I'll be damned if I'll lie down and accept that.

Cody Jarrett said...

I think we're misunderstanding each other. Or something.

I'm not asking you to accept the shit he (whoever's running the Titus account) heaps upon you, I'm just suggesting you should accept that he or they or whatever "he" is--doesn't like you.

Maybe it's me that's at fault, I dunno--it just seems that whenever it happens you're taken aback all over again.

If I'm reading (and interpreting) that wrong I apologize--I'm sorry.

Cody Jarrett said...

Sixty, Sid Vicious did it better than Frank.

In the most recent dog post at Althouse, is it just me or does the German shepherd look like he's just bitten off Meade's little pink baby finger of a pecker?

What is that thing?

In the Game of Conversation, Weather Pitches while Baseball Covers the Bases.

El Pollo, Whether your weather query sprang from curious/serious interest, or was put there to sow seeds for a 3rd diversionary topic, it worked to thaw the thread and keep it alive until morning, when baseball and Ingatithouse could once again fill the bill!

EBL: Putting the horses in the tub was the next step. Apparently there's such a thing as an expandable hose which friends on FB were recommending! I was all set to order her one, until I found out the Pocket Hose --"the hose that fits in a pocket but grows and grows and grows into a full size hose!" received 1,300 one-star reviews on Amazon. Apparently the plastic ends on this model break and it's not quality made, but the original idea is a keeper.

Chick, I do not get the Titus stalker crap with you, but he is a little shit. Then again, so are Ann and Meade.

and my own moribund blog

Moribund seems harsh and hopefully premature. I invite consideration Dr.Luke's more Biblical approach of "She is not dead but sleeping" to allow for the possibility of an unexpected but miraculous recovery.

El Pollo, I've known you to have been one of the few who've consistently stood up to The-Person-Who-Writes-As-Titus with an even tempered truthfulness and willingness to sincerely engage with that person if that was their wont, but it wasn't.

I'm once again disappointed in Althouse's unwillingness to stand behind her "Don't make any personal remarks and don't go back-and-forth with another commenter (except at the level of responding to ideas about the topic under discussion) comment directives.

Talk about limp dick.

That's something I could've said but didn't. It's why whoever they is (yes, I know it's bad grammar, but it's what I mean) can't go after the Chicken in the kind of full frontal attack that Meade has used against me, say, rather they have to be pickin on the chicken along the margins, which is cowardly and in the long run, more aggravating.

OTOH, if the Chicken would treat Ann or Meade the way he treats me, Meade would be free to engage in the face to face trashing and I bet the Titus stuff would cease.

;)

Cody Jarrett said...

BTW, MamaM...why are you disappointed by Anne's refusal to enforce her stated blog policy?

That's like expecting Crack to not be a whiny little racist tantrum having child.

For some reason I'm reminded of a line from Braveheart..."an oath to a liar is no oath at all."

chickelit said...

Herculean, even.

Cody Jarrett said...

You go, Chicks!

But I'm afraid you'll make yourself crazy with it. Anne and Meade and the rest of that menagerie can shape shift faster than you can keep up.

You're a pretty sharp guy for a fowl...but eventually it'll overwhelm you and you'll just spend all day brooding about it and being pissy to everyone around you.

Or maybe I'm just projecting again, I dunno.

Seriously, EPR: don't obsess (or even think about it) too much. It'll kill you, whether you believe it or not. And those shitstains aren't worth the time.
If it amuses you, then by all means. But keep track of it closely. Because sometime you might find that you're only amused because of the negativity. Or something.

MamaM could probably say it much more philosophically and elegantly.

But be careful with it.
