Hey Blake, I just saw "Breathless" for the first time - have you ever written a review of that one?

blake said...

I did, 60.

I was not amused.

As long as Grit is going all German on us, Ein kleines bisschen Horrorschau

Well alrighty then. Hier Kommt Alex. That sounds Horrorschau to me.

Thanks for the link to your review, Blake - I see even Troop commented on that one.

Here is what I liked about the movie - it's in French. I like French. It was shot in Paris - I like Paris.

Jean Paul Belmondo was cool - you can see that Steve McQueen and a bunch of other cool actors aped what he did.

Of course now ever urban hipster douche imitates that style - the hat, the Gauloises, the posing - funny to see the original after all these years.

But I really liked the cars - Citroens, Renaults, Panhards, Peugeots, and Simcas with a smattering of American iron thrown in - that really made the movie for me. I was all "Hey - there's a Deux Cheveaux, there's a 4CV, a DS19! Whoa, he stole a Thunderbird - way to step up, Frenchie with an eyetie name!

The scenes shot from inside a moving car were way cool - the traffic circles, the architecture, the clothes the pedestrians were wearing - total time capsule.

As for the jump cuts, the lack of a plausible plot, the over-exposed black and white, the improvised scenes - what's the word for all that? Oh yeah - seminal! LOL!

Anyway, I got a kick out of it, if only for hearing French for an hour and a half, and watching Jean Seberg is not a bad way to spend some time.

The final chase was fascinating - generally when I get shot through the spine I pretty much stop running. But not JPB - he's off to the races - when he does his final face plant I was impressed by the way he didn't do even more damage to his face - nice stunt! Great fall. My back hurts just watching it.

So, there you have it - I liked the cars, the French, and speaking of seminal, Jean Seberg - hey - wasn't she just Joan of Arc and now she's getting nailed by JPB? Damn, nice work if you can get it...

I can dig it. I love Russian films because I can kinda-sorta understand the language.

And Jean Seberg is a hottie. I do love French women. It just pegged my pretentious meter so hard I couldn't see past the Citroens.

ChipS, You mean the In and Out Burger near Radford, on Camrose?

Chip S. said...

No, nick. King's Road, in Chelsea, is more like it.

Now would be a bad time to critique "Smoky and the Bandit," right?
